I've built the best car ever. Porsche Cayenne with a Carrera GT engine, 640hp, 3,800lbs and somehow is actually competitive. :giggle: I built it for shits and giggles to see how many times I could roll it, but its actually within a second per lap of my fastest A class car. I guess the power on the straights helps it out. Anybody wanna race me as I take my 3 kids to soccer practice?

Now painted like a school bus, lol

Picking this game up Monday. So excited.

hustler 11-07-2009 04:53 PM

I haz a 550whp, sequential trans, race rubbered, winged CRX, lol. It slays.

:giggle: It's fine. I had a good time racing and tagging. The ring was fun since we were in almost identical GTR's. Pretty close racing, just how I like it. Your friend was fine, he did have me a little pissed at one point on the mountain track (forget the name) when he spun me like 3 times and let you get over 1,000ft ahead of us. I payed him back a few times though, so we were even. ;) I've been trying to build some cars today. I got a little out of control with only building A class cars and let my other classes slip. Only had 1 good car for each class above A and really none below A. I'm working on S right now, have a few that should be pretty good.

Ive done almost only online races, and only have three cars that I've build, an S class miata, an A class miata, and an r3 class audi r8. I need to do some more building of cars.

I havent have a good race like we had on the ring since I bought the game, kept going back and forth. One thing I dont like about this game is how easy the AI players are on hard setting on tracks like the ring and that hillclimb (I think it's called fuji or something)

Don't even joke like that, get the PS3 and GT5. Its way better in every aspect except maybe paintability, But its not like you buy a racing came to paint.

So GT5 or nothing!!!

I just gotta say..... FUCK I'M GOOD! :giggle: Just made some AeroCatch hood latches if anybody wants to make their car look more "race car" like. Best latches I have seen on the store front. Nice with shadow and reflection details. A tiny bit big, but they scale all the way down to life size without any issue with clarity/detail being messed up. I swear, I have more fun making logos and stuff than I do racing. I've probably spent 60% of the time on the game doing this shit, then I give them all away and make no profit to buy cars and parts. Oh well, it passes the time. Seems I am one of the only people on the store front designing logos and whatnot with any kind of eye for detail. At least more so than 95% of them. I don't spend ALL night doing one, but I at least check my proportions and colors where as most don't. I also did a nice Bilstein logo with the yellow circle and shock if anyone wants one for their Bilstein equipped Miata.

S3 Zyklon is the GT if anyone needs it.

How can I make my 900whp R8 turn-in more at low speed? I don't know anything about AWD or mid engine vehciles.

Smaller front sway, bigger rear sway, 6ish rebound, 3ish bound, dunno bout spring-rate, 6.5+ caster, 1.1 front camber, 1.6 rear camber(or around that)

Forza tuning doesnt quite relate 100% to real-life tuning lol. In FM2 with awd cars you would set front sway to 3 and rear sway to 40 and you'd win, no lie.

The way I tune is run at Mugello short circuit, then tinker till its right. My typical AWD setup is reduce camber to 0.4, increase caster to 5.5, front toe out around 0.5, set set the anti roll bars near even, or with the rear slightly higher/stiffer, depending on cars weight of course, set springs to nearly even, but maybe 10% stiffer in the rear, ride height as low as it goes, stiffer rear rebound and bump stiffness with induce a little off throttle over steer so the back end will sling around, but getting on the throttle will pull it back straight no problem. Adjustable diff is the most important part of a good AWD car, set the front diff low on both accel and decel (less than 20% is where I aim for usually) and rear in the 60%-80% range, center setting at about 75%-82% in most cases. Those are just the settings I start off with for a car that I like to drive. Fast and easy to drive for me maybe isn't the same for everyone. From there tweak it as needed. Ignoring real world tuning and reading the tuning tips on each setting to the right of the screen actually helps.

My S class (699) R8 is set up like so, with emphasis on slower entrance speeds and fast and stable turn exit (no oversteer or understeer under power) and has front and rear wing.

613hp, 2,777lb, 46% front

camber 0.6 f/ 0.2 r
toe 0.5 front
caster 5.5
sway 26 f/ 30 r
springs 725 f/850 r
ride height minimum
rebound 8.8 f/9.6 r
bump 6.2 f/ 6.8 r
downforce 82 f/ 188 r
front diff 8% accel and decel
rear diff 70% accel and 80% decel
86% rear

Because we were running fwd junk. No actually I had already taken my sleeping pill, so I barely remember playing at all. I'm usually not too good at Fuji anyway.

hustler 11-13-2009 12:57 PM

oh shit, information overload.

NA6C-Guy 11-13-2009 01:53 PM

Story made short, I go for stiffer in the rear on springs and sway, damping stiffer in the rear makes for more oversteer, then I use the downforce to fine tune how well the front end sticks and how much the rear end is allowed to slide through the turn. Not sure how you would really increase turn in at low speeds, I always just replace turn in with a little bit of oversteer off throttle and the ability to go full throttle out of the turn without pushing like most AWD cars do.

Quick question. Will be picking up xbox and forza3. What steering wheel and pedal set are people liking? Best bang for the buck?

Halo.

Bryce 11-17-2009 12:27 AM

Best steering wheel?

Fanatec 911 Turbo S. Better than the G25, and works on 360, PS3, and PC. Of course that is when it finally arrives at my door.

NA6C-Guy 11-17-2009 12:31 AM

My problem with wheels is I would have to fabricate a seat and stand of some kind. I have enough junk to keep up with, I don't need a simulator cockpit in my floor. But yeah, the Fanatec is top of the line.

So you guys are playing forza with the regular handset?!?

I am. I've actually never had a wheel with any GT or Forza game. I've always done just fine with my joystick and triggers. Not nearly the detail of input I would like to have, but it gets the job done. I replace angular sensitivity by bumping the joystick to get finer angles of steering that I could get by just moving the stick regularly. Looks smooth on the track, but if you were to watch my steering input it would be on and off like a switch. Maybe thats the standard way, I don't know.

Bryce 11-17-2009 03:35 PM

Fabricate a wheelstand?? That's what cheap old PVC pipe is for.

Its much easier to make the fine adjustments during a long sweeper with the wheel than with a practically On-Off joystick.

I bet I could do it nearly as smoothly with the joystick. That is where the bump method helps. The faster you bump the sharper the turn, less frequent bumps is a wide turn. But yeah, wheel would be easy. I have plenty of PVC, but if I do a frame, its gotta be aluminum or steel. I wan't zero movement in the frame. I would want the wheel more for the throttle and brake. On some of my high HP cars, controlling the throttle out of turns is a bit tough to do and I end up breaking traction and have to play a rebound game for 10 seconds trying to stay off the wall.

Bryce 11-17-2009 03:59 PM

With the wheel, when you're trying to find that maximum turning angle, you'll feel it go a little slack just before you're about to break traction to the front tires. Its a great help. For me, finding the point of no return for traction at the rear tires is a little harder but still much easier than with the controller.
The Fanatec wheel is going to be superb. It has a vibration function in the brake pedal (force feedback on the clubsport edition pedals) that you can set to vibrate when you apply X percent pedal force. I can see setting it to vibrate right at the threshold of tire lock and turning off ABS in-game to stop even faster.
You'll be a lot slower with the wheel at first. It just takes time to get used to driving without over-correcting. But once you're there, its allot easier to regulate all of the analog functions. I just can't wait for 900 degrees of steering with Forza 3!

cueball1 11-17-2009 09:06 PM

I can't imagine wanting to play such an accurate simulation with the handheld controller. I'd wanna be as close to real racing on my meager budget as possible. Feedback wheel and foot pedals. Cheesy DIY PVC rack to hold them would be just dandy.

It's not a fact of want. Well it is I guess, want to buy me a wheel? :fawk:

Then buy either iracing or GTRII, none of this forza/gt5 shizat. Then you're on a computer with a desk. Prop your monitor up on a book or two and it's a very nice simulation.

NA6C-Guy 11-18-2009 01:25 AM

*cough* well its time for another plug regarding my vinyl groups... :giggle: If anybody might like a Tag Heuer vinyl for their car I have what I think is easily the best 2, one detailed with fancy shadow and highlight work and one regular... just saying ;) I'm trying to whore up my rank so go download it even if you won't want it, I can taste top 100, it's right there. It's also free. S3 Zyklon

flier129 11-18-2009 12:19 PM

I use a controller and have no problems with it. Although I would like to have a wheel, and now knowing that the fanatec works on 360 and PC I'll be getting it soon lol.

The only assist I run is manual clutch w/o clutch. I tried it with clutch but I don't brake as well with my middle finger vs my index finger. I do find myself out-braking lots of wheel users, but thats in public rooms and they may not be use to braking with the pedals or something.

Controller doesn't hinder me much, multiple top 150 finishes in multiple classes, and a few top 50 finishes in B-class. I've got quite a few of my tunes on my store-front.

My new favorite car to race is to down-class the #16 dyson racing b09/86 p2 car. 370hp 2100lbs R3 with 8+ for everything cept speed, easy to drive and so fast vs the other r3 cars lol

hustler 11-18-2009 12:39 PM

Right now I'm feeling the Panoz LMP-1 and the M3 GT2.

I must obtain the C6R.

flier129 11-18-2009 01:44 PM

You get the C6R in the lvl 30's, I think. I got to lvl 50 WAY too fast lol. I still enjoy getting my miata out in D to S classes and embarassing ppl with Audi's ;)

I will say it'd be nice to have a wheel for the R1 cars. 170 mph on the ring without the ability to do small adjustments hurts. The Peugeot 908 furkin fast though, so is the RS spyder.

I'm staring at the Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel now, but damn $350 bucks and you have to wait and hope your not too late on the pre-order?! I wish Logitec, Microsoft, or someone would make a wheel compatible with 360/PS3/PC as well.

jtothawhat 11-18-2009 01:48 PM

Online FM3 is getting boring...everyone knows the Datsun is the fastest car in the game ;-)

NA6C-Guy 11-18-2009 02:11 PM

The series I absolutely would HAVE to have the wheel for is the R1 at Fuji. I also think its impossible without being level 50 and having the 908. I tried it with the Spyder RS, I will have to go back and attempt it again with the 908 once I stop cursing that track. I would like to bitch slap whoever decided R1 on that track was a good idea. It's too low speed of a track to have R1 running. Without very fine throttle control you just spin off of every turn trying to put the power down with no down force. I could win 2 of the heats with the RS, but against the 908 I would always get my ass spanked by the time I was in the 2nd or 3rd turn. This is also using no assists, and in an R1 TCS is pretty well needed on circuits like Fuji.

flier129 11-18-2009 02:21 PM

The the super lap battle for R1 in career was annoying, I learned the ways of blocking!! Half throttle most of the time and set the diff to like 12% accell.

Have you tried messing with the diff? Helps launching off the start but you'll notice it more around the apex, although the only tracks I've throttle anywhere near the apex in R1 is Road America and Laguna Seca :-\

NA6C-Guy 11-18-2009 03:06 PM

Yeah, diff helped a little, but that just moved my spin from one location to another. Either way in R1, the 908 always kicks my ass unless I am in the 908 myself and have the difficulty on medium. R1 races have never been my favorite anyway, I prefer R2 and lower. Cars that are at least semi taken from the street.

9671111 12-04-2009 07:52 PM

Is it just me, or does the online Forza community absolutely fucking blow.

-The first turn is typically a pileup in which you never recover from.
-people ram you or side swipe you when you're walking them in the straights.
-people ram you in turns or knock you off the rack, typically resulting in a DNF.
-you often get kicked, typically after people ram the shit out of you in the previous race.

I've noticed this works. That or launch like mad ahead of the pack and drive flawlessly the rest of the race. That still doesn't eliminate the fact that people fuck your shit up in turns and side swipe your shit left and right. It's just so frustrating. I find it terribly difficult to even finish a race at times.

I don't play much, but I do have a pretty wicked R3 GTR (Calsonic themed, bad ass) that I built recently. Also had a pretty bad ass 911 but I sold it.

flier129 01-21-2010 12:49 PM

I played b-class quite a bit, clean racers. Ended up racing my way to a veteran and then it took forever to join a lobby lol. I've got quite a few top 50 times in b-class now.

The new RWD circuit lobby's in A-class are a lot more fun. Closer races and Im not sure why, but cleaner races as well. I'm liking it!
