Found my rear end

I went to the local junkyard today looking for an rx7 rear end, turns out they had 5. Picked this rear end out of an 86 non turbo. It was flat blacked so I couldn't find any markings, but it had a/c, p/s, 5 lug, 4 piston calipers, electronic suspension, LSD fluid tag....so this HAS to be a clutch type right? The FAQ says the year is correct. When spinning the input both outputs spin the same way and they are really hard to spin opposite of each other. I just have this nack for pulling the wrong parts...

I picked it up for $65. I have a 99 open I'm going to be swapping this into. Anyone have a link with some good info on this? I'll search later as I want to open it up and check everything out. But it's the 4th and time for dinner...that tastes better.

It says limited slip diff. gear, so I don't see how it can't be a clutch LSD?

it's the clutch type....

that's because the clutch is locking....

Well, I guess this disproves everyone who ever told you that you couldn't find your own rear end with both hands and a map...

$65, good deal.

I wanted to make sure. I read on rx7forums that any year GTU had a clutch type. Total BS, I went and pulled it just to find out it was a viscous. I know spinning them oposite is difficult because it's LSD, but the viscous was pretty easy to break loose. This thing is hard, I needed some pry bars. I was hoping it was so difficult because it was clutch type.

When did they start making maps to rear ends in junkyards? I didn't just take this out of my car if that is what your saying. "Found my rear end" as in I didn't buy the one on ebay, I went and found it.

I could be wrong, but I think that was a joke.

just open it up and look at it....pretty easy to tell it's a viscous...

it shouldn't be, as the viscous only came on the 90-91s

I really want to open it up and look at the clutches. Busy today, heading over to the_pipefathers to finish up tuning MS. I might get to it Monday after class. I will update my build thread when I do.
