Found a sweet garage/shop...
..where I get to do the work myself.
It's part of a navy base/shipyard, and since I work on the yard I get to rent a bay for $6/hr. They are a full service shop so they have tools to do everything, and I get to use whatever I want. Lifts, air tools, big oil collection things, tire mounters, wheel balancers, you name it... except a leak down tester. Why don't they have places like this available to the general public?? |

I would say theres not public rental garages due to insurance reasons. That and the misuse of tools, equipment, etc. |

Answers: 1: Unprofitable. 2: Liability. 3: Unprofitable. |
We have a place locally where you can rent a bay. I'm not sure the cost, but it isn't $6/hr. I believe that you have to pay to rent tools on top of the space as well.
I'm glad to have a decent garage to work in, just wish I had a lift. |
Most bases have them, and they can be a blessing. Swapped a motor in a '77 Camper Bus some years back, would not have been able to do it without their help.

Lucky son of a gun!!! Im gonna talk to my armed forces buddies see if they have access anything similar to this, it would be a freaking blessing.

sucks I miss my house in the gables.
two car garage ftw. |
There are some bases in the area here that have the same kind of setup. It is a serious fringe benefit for motorheads that are in the service.
The main thing I would love to have that I do not have now is a lift... and a good MIG and/or TIG welder. |
A neighbor of mine back in CA who was a Marine sergeant introduced me to this concept. We cracked the frame of his KTM in a really ackward spot one day. Took it to Pendleton, and a buddy of his laid a TIG weld across it that looked better than the factory beads.
Good friends to have. :D |
Yup, they have those at most bases. I haven't used one yet since I haven't done anything that required any tools I don't have (except a cherry picker - borrowed one). Next place I go I'll use their services if offered.
