Fucking Theives!!

So I met Ben this morning. The plan was to do 7" rear swaps in our cars. Mine with a RX7 clutch LSD, his with a TorsenI. We got his done. But we couldn't do mine because somebody stole my driveshaft out of my parts car. Can you believe that? I'm glad they didn't take the diff out of the car (Ben & I did that today) but that totally fucked my plans of beating on my car in the mountains tomorrow. I'm still going, but I won't be thrashing it like I wanted to.

And yes, getting the axle nuts off his car was a PITA.
And we learned so much by getting his done, I bet we can do mine in under an hour from the time we rack the car to the time our hands are clean.

If anyone can help me out with a 1.8 driveshaft, I need one... Like yesterday

<edit>
also, while on that subject, how do I get the old bushings out of the diff? We tried to press them out on the 15 ton press, but that didn't do shit. Torch?

Serious? Someone unbolted the driveshaft of all things from your parts car?

That is pretty fucked up.

paul 09-29-2007 08:56 PM

yeah, burn em out.

LOLA - 92 09-29-2007 09:35 PM

Do you by any chance live in South Florida, near RICAN?

jayc72 09-29-2007 09:45 PM

You gotta drill them. 4 holes on each "side" should do it.

sorry about the driveshaft....was it chillin' at your shop? someone with a miata must have an eye on the place or something.

you need a motion detecting ip web camera.

uh oh, someone is gonna get there oil stolen again. Why did rican get banned anyway?

y8s 09-30-2007 11:18 AM

here's a wild question: are you sure your parts care *came* with a driveshaft?

drill then burn out the bushings. in your neighbors yard. it smells.

Loki047 09-30-2007 11:49 AM

ben i have an extra 1.8 driveshaft let me know if you want it.

Agent935 09-30-2007 02:41 PM

Meth heads steal Catalytic converters around here and sell them for scrap, They also steal road signs, metal siding, metal barriers, etc to sell for scrap to pay for Meth. I could see a driveshaft falling into that category.

Ben 09-30-2007 05:38 PM

Yeah I had a drive shaft dummy :gtfo:
Last time I saw it was Thursday. Saturday AM, which was the next time I went to the car, it was gone. It was probably taken for scrap. Might be worth maybe 1.00 or so.

Loki, yes I need it. I tried to pick one up locally, but haven't had luck.

Zabac 10-01-2007 11:02 AM

Ben i got one for a 1.8 '96 car...im in charlotte...let me know...a little closer than chicago

Ben 10-01-2007 11:12 AM

thanks man, that's cool of you, but Loki's already got it taken care of.

bripab007 10-01-2007 12:02 PM

Effing insane. I can't imagine someone going through the trouble of stealing a driveshaft off a car.

Zabac 10-01-2007 12:34 PM

no problem man, i just dont need it, both my cars are factory 1.8's
its pretty hard to take a shaft off if the car is on the ground, whoever did it knew what they were doing...

Atlanta93LE 10-01-2007 12:35 PM

His parts car is more like a carcass at this point...and I'm not so sure the driveshaft was attached any more.

Zabac 10-01-2007 12:43 PM

that would simplify things...but still, im sure it a miata owner, a driveshaft wont bring in much money for crack/meth and is not easily conceiled while walking on the street...lol

RedTurbo850 10-01-2007 08:24 PM

Ugh,

I have damn thieves. I got a little Toy BB gun stolen from me by a little kid (they stole that rather than some of the other stuff in my car).

I've yet to get parts jacked (thank god), and it's a good thing I do not drive a Civic/Integra because around here, those are the biggest targets of theft.

Ben 10-06-2007 05:05 PM

ok, got a new d/s from Loki yesterday evening and everything was installed today. :)

Thanks again to Ben who came out to help me with the install.
