i love stress cracked pistons...

had an uncle that used to race mini-sprints, ran 250cc 2 stroke engines, melted pistons on a monthly basis... ive seen some pretty fucked up pistons.. the best was the one that melted right in the top and when it came apart all that was left was a hollow cylinder with some rings on it, and the center portion was still atatched to the rod... wish i had pics

I asked him for pics. That only took one 1st test drive and about 5 seconds in boost to create. ;)

how long ago did you do this?

my ring lands where toast damn 5 sec of detonation shouldnt do that you musta done something way wrong on that one.

i have to ask, been wondering a while. what is the reasoning for using cast/forged aluminum for pistons instead of what they make rods out of or somthing? is it the expansion rate or weight or what? seems like pistons are the week link in every engine. a stronger piston gives you soo much more lee way for everything from tuning to revs to longevity.

I gave the engine away and never heard back from the guy, always wondered if it was just rings or not (lost compression on #3)....almost a year later he emailed me.

If I had more time, I'd love to be rebuilding my engine...oh well. Sometime in the future, eh?

it was taking up space....and yeah if i was smart i would have kept it and rebuilt it. i've slapped myself a few times for that.

would there be anything wrong with driving it to the muffler shop?
i'm planning on doing that after i install my turbo (march)...

again; I was running 87 octane & 14* static timing. I learned things the hard way. I way too excited and overlooked two vital things.

how much static timing do these cars like with say 8psi? 0 or retard?

with 93 octane and an IC, I'm retarding to 8* with my Bipes.

I'm 16° at idle and pull 8° off the top. I dunno how that calculates to total timing and all that jazz.

My #2 looked like this as well. but i had a major spel where i didnt lift alot of minor ones where i was testing my system and its limits. Muffler or not that would have little to no difference in blowing the motor he had subpar fuel and cooling as did i when i got a clogged injector jet on my WI system when racing a mustang, didnt help i missed 3rd but still. Shit happens but it takes obscene shit to take out these motors they are not finicky.

I'm not saying it had anything to do with a muffler, but:

87 octane fuel :doh:
14° base timing - No retarding device :doh:
203cc injectors :doh:
stock fuel pump
(3-4) 6psi pulls from 2nd to 4th

The final resulting in a billowing stream of brillant white smoke out the tailpipe and loss of compression in #3.

This was my first timing driving in boost, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Had I known now, I wouldn't have been so stupid. I'm sure the thing was pinging like a motherfucker and I had no clue, and especially couldn't hear over my open DP. ;)

mine looked exactly the same tried to drive it to a miata guy in louisville but it made so much smoke me and my dad figured id get a ticket so it came home and we yanked the motor. It is sad to see that happen but atleast you know better now.

I learn the hard way. I don't use Braineack for my handle and tag myself "The Sadim Touch" for nothing ;)
