G-Tech pro?
 

Im just wondering if any one on here has tryed it. I looks nice but i have a feeling its a pice of junk. How is it going to get a HP reading from you cirggret lighter? I would liek to try one tho.

My dad and I have the RR version. It's actually fairly accurate once you calibrate it to your vehicle, except for the hp/torque measurements. It's fun to play with and see the difference each mod makes to your 0-60 and 1/4 mi times. The PASS software makes some nice printable graphs and tables, too.

How hard was it to calibrate? How bad was the HP reading?

It takes about 5 mins to calibrate, setting it up so the tach reading is accurate and the accelerometers are zero'd out.

Hp readings vary widely between runs, like +/- 20%:td:

The SS doesn't come with the software, but it looks like you can buy the software separately. It's a lot easier to compare runs on your computer screen than on that tiny screen.

Edit: I just saw on the site that you cannot upload runs from the SS model.

hum... well I guess I can sell my methanol injection set up seeing how I will never set it up any ways. But then once I buy the RR ill want to.

yea man, i had the older version a few years back called the gtech pro. i agree, its very accurate, but its accuracy is fully dependent on the calibration. you need to be on completely level ground. i thought the hp and tq measurement were going to be crap but it read my civic to almost exactly what it should get. it read it at 87 whp and thats about right i would think for 106 to the crank. anyways, yes its fun.

so you have the rr? i was thinking about getting one soon, how is the fiction circle print out? i would really like to beable to get it for that function, alot of dough.

I've never used the roadracing part of it very much, only while driving, but never recorded any runs, so I couldn't tell you just how the lateral g's are graphed.

I have the RR, use it lots, 1/4 mile times were almost dead on with my truck, and so far horsepower readings on a few of my friends cars have been fairly accurate.

Trade for WI Turbokid?

They're not junk. They do what they were designed (measure acceleration vs. weight and convert to numbers) to do and are fairly accurate once calibrated. The SS even does lateral G's and has a few other gimmicks, and the RR steps it up with track software and some more tools... In the end, it's a toy. I had one of the earlier versions, used it for a week, and then sold it to a buddy. It was a novelty item and I got bored with it quick.

On eBay, it looks like the SS goes for $190 and the RR for $270.

To me, that sounds like money better spent towards and LM-1 ($280 new on eBay). Then save a few more months and splurge for an LMA-3. Now you've got your own portable dyno you can swap from car to car forever. Money spent on a GTech for the purposes of tuning is a waste. It'll tell you what you've got, but not how you got there.

If you were thinking about using it to help record laptimes and what not... borrow someones RR before shelling out the money.
However, the thing about GTech is that they've got the slick name and the most advertising... but there are a lot of other products out there you'd rather spend your money on:

i would be using the friction circle for it mainly. i want to see how much of the car as a driver i am useing up. mostly to tune me not really to help tune my car. the use of them come in a few others i have seen but the price is soooo much higher. looks like i am stuck with the gtechs. no way ill shell out that much for that.

What I was going to say. The older versions are dirt cheap too. Just wait until the next version comes out..
