Does this exist? It's 7:26AM and I searched but admittedly got bored of reading the results before I'd scrolled through the first page...

Just move into a place with a 2-car garage for the first time in ~3 years and I want to see what you guys have done with yours. I'm planning the basic work bench, tool chest, wall storage, etc but I'm looking for ideas and maybe even sweet deals I wouldn't have found otherwise had I not made this sweet thread.

I'm pretty set on this Husky 52" mobile workbench as it seems to suit my needs for both storage and a decent sized, mobile work surface.

I'd like a stationary table as well but I'm not sure about purchasing one, I figure building one would be best for custom fit and customization.

What about wall storage? Are those fancy garage-specific cabinets worth it or are they just aesthetically "cooler" and marketed towards the "man-cavers?"

I'd avoid cabinets- they are more expensive than shelves and you have to open a door to look for/get anything. Also need space in front of them to swing the door open- not good if you need to park close to them.

shelves :werd: Shop CL. I picked up some 10ft. steel industrial shelves for $15 each. Already assembled and a little rusty, but at an immense savings. Cabinets are good for shielding items from shop mess/debris, but I've stored that kind of stuff in plastic tubs on the shelves.

shelves and milk crates make great part storage.

This thread couldn't have come at a better time. I'm moving into a house with 2.5 car garage this coming weekend and need inspiration.

Although I don't have updated pictures since putting in my reloading bench (a new webpage will be coming soon) and sink, you can probably get some good ideas by looking at the page.

I really like the benches I made using brackets you get at Lowes (about $100 cost including lumber for each 2x8 table) and the pegboard with 1x2" strips behind it. I've been using my earliest since 1991 and they have stood up well. I've also really liked the OSB vs drywall.

That is a sexy floor. How much does coating a floor like that cost?

I can't remember, maybe somewhere between 200-350 dollars for the coating itself.

There was a good amount of prep time, money, and effort involved too. If i did it again, i would spend more time prepping the 40 year old floor.

This is my most used accessory in garage 2.0. (Actually 30.0). Took a harbor freight side cabinet (for 44' roller) and added casters, 1/4 plate on top and some stainless tool holders on the side. I wheel it over to whatever project and i have a surface for tools or parts. Small vise is for a third hand. Also doubles as a fab table.

I have moved a few things around and added in an extra work bench but this should give a pretty good idea of how my garage looks.

Workbench made from $15 shelf. Completed with last shelf cut in half long ways and install at top for a half shelf that spans the width.

Great thread... I saw that 12ga garage video a couple of years ago, pretty cool!

When we bought our house, we were on a short time frame because the place we were renting was getting sold. Of course, it was 2006, peak of the bubble. I wanted a large garage, or separate shop, but couldn't find anything in our price range in the timeframe we had. I ended up with the modern '2 car' garage: 20'x20', so I have to be pretty creative in fitting 10lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag.

I eventually built these benches. The one on the left is built to the wall, the larger one on the right rolls on casters so I can move it out and work all the way around it. This is really helpful with some of my RC projects. The drill press in the corner got replaced with a benchtop press that sits next to the lathe, and my compressor lives there.

On the other side, I have another bench built in which I use for soldering, reloading and gun cleaning, and a cabinet for misc. stuff. The small Craftsman tool chest has since been replaced with a large HF setup. Lots of shelves, everywhere I could fit them, and a rack to hang my MC gear.

One of my solutions is that everything that can, rolls...

I built this rolling bench from a HF cart, with the top tray flipped and an MFB board bolted on top. The plan is to replace it with a steel top at some point.

I'm getting to the point where lots of stuff has to move for me to work on anything, and even though it's all on rollers, it's a PITA. I'm really hoping to build a shop in our back yard in the next couple of years to alleviate the issue.

Oh man, cool thread - I've been thinking a lot about redoing the garage with really compact and sturdy shelving to make more room, and also epoxy ALLTHETHINGS cause I somehow manage to spill a few drops URRY TIME I change the oil or anything else.

Not sure if I'm cool with spending 350 for teh stuff tho
