So apparently maybe my bias blinded me, I thought you were talking about a different goodyear, after some reading on the ones your looking at they might not be too bad.

I was thinking about the Eagle GT, which happens to be an asymmetrical all season, but is not the Eagle F1 asymmetric all season.

Congrats, you made it to 15 post.

What are you selling?

Opti 10-28-2013 11:38 PM

Hopefully wheels and tires for a GTO

Forgeline or CCW C10.

QFT man. I don't think they're star specs. But they're a soft compound tire that wears like crap and has no warranty because they're marketed and sold as a high-performance summer tire. I assumed that they'd at least be grippier than an all-season tire.

I bought the car with these tires. They suck. You'll notice I'm not buying another set.

You're not getting it. You made two posts about how awesome the D101s are in the dry. Based on that, the ASXs should feel like fucking R-Comps.

Buy them, they're incredible.

And in the long run, you may find it more economical to run dedicated summer and winter tires. Not to mention you won't have to compromise year round.

+1 on dedicated summer and winter shoes. Especially if you have snow/ice. I love running snow tires in the winter, it really keeps my car from sliding off the road in the canyon.

Dude. I never said they were awesome. I first said they are a pretty aggressive, sticky tire. They ARE an aggressive tire, as illustrated by soft compound and horrible wear compared to all-seasons, but apparently they're not actually sticky when compared to good tires. I JUST learned that. I thought they felt pretty good, but I have very little experience with a lot of this stuff. The only other experience I have with summer tires is the RE11's that were on Vlad's car when I bought it, and I drove that car maybe 2500 miles, and 1200 of them were from Michigan to Utah.

I also have not ever had different tires on the GTO, and I have felt pretty satisfied with the grip in the dry. That doesn't mean I think they're awesome, that just means I HAVE LOW STANDARDS AND DON'T KNOW WTF I'M TALKING ABOUT. Which is why I'm here asking questions. Cuz you guys have the experience that I don't.

As for dedicated summer/winter tires......... The least-expensive winter tire carried at Discount Tire is $206/tire. That's a whopping $50 MORE than the Continental DWS (great tire), and about $35 more than the current #1 UHP all season, the Michelin Pilot Sport A3. There's no way I'm dropping that kind of coin, plus mounting and balancing OR storing a set of wheels who-knows-where. I live in a 600 sq ft apartment with a small storage closet that is full. I have room for my tool bag, a floor jack, and an oil catch can...... out on my deck. I do not have space to store a whole set of tires. It's just not practical. someday, sure, but not at the stage of life I'm at right now.

I'm trying to do the best with what I can afford and what I have access to.

Thanks again for the help, all. Except the Noob spammer.

I live in a 650sqft apartment, i own 6 cars, i run dedicated summer setups on all of them except for 1, which wears All Terrain Off Road tires year round.

Figure it out. ;)

Are you married? If so, does your wife have phobia levels of aversion to anything that could be viewed as superfluous?

I am, and mine does.

My wife also drives the turbo miata more than i do by a factor of about... 50, and has her own race car. :D

:crx:

We can't all be so lucky. My wife likes to see me enjoy my car and she's very tolerant for someone who absolutely does not care and has no interest. But she won't have extra tires floating around.

We give a little. It's all good, she's worth it.

.....But I do wish she wanted her own race car.

concealer404 10-29-2013 01:20 PM

I made her cry multiple times when i was teaching her to drive a manual transmission.

I made her cry multiple times when I... I mean... Uhhh...

My wife already drove a manual. She hates automatics. :D so at least there's that.

Loving the thread drift from buying wheels to buying a new wife.

concealer404 10-29-2013 02:03 PM

New wife might very well be cheaper in the long run.

turbofan 10-29-2013 02:10 PM

*ahem* I'm going back to discount tire to see if they'd be willing to order the TSW's in but not make me keep them if they don't fit.

Worth a try.

https://www.miataturbo.net/insert-bs...n-daily-70182/

tl;dnr: Michelin Pilot Super Sports if you are a gentleman of esteem and reknown; Continential DWS if you are aspiring to a better life; Dunlop Direzza DZ101 if you don't know anything about performance tires and think pulling .5 lateral gees is extreme

Buy suspension, then wheels & tires. If you downsize diameter, you are likely going to end up with even more wheel gap for which you will be rightfully mocked and ridiculed, including references to thinks that gape.
