I was wondering why I didn't get any replies when I emailed a bunch of sellers simply asking if the car was still for sale. Oddly enough I have never had an issue with scammers on CL.

There is something on CL worse than scammers: overeager, undereducated buyers.
I never had any problems until I went to sale stereo equipment. Had one guy that was pretty persistant about telling me "He was on his way with a truck and $1000, what was my address" when selling a bike for $1500 once. This guy was nothing compared to the thugs that were calling me telling me they were coming over right now at 11:30pm to pick up $250 in stereo equipment.
Freakin' jerks (several) of them kept calling and being ******** like I was a 24hr WalMart or something, but I couldn't straight up tell them it was sold because the guy that really wanted it and was nice to deal with wanted me to install it for him that weekend.
I would have guys say: "just give me your address dawg, I'll be right over" at an hour both my wife and daughter were in bed. I'd tell them I'd call them tomorrow if other buyer didn't come through, then half of them would call back a half hour later asking what was up.
I almost always prefer to deal with people that can actually write emails and be civil about it, and this caused me to take my phone number out of my email sig.

These two are my favorites:
This guy makes the scammer make a carving of his head:
Welcome to the 419 Eater
This guy makes the scammer get a tatoo on his arm:
Welcome to the 419 Eater

The one where he makes the scammer write out Harry Potter?

A few months ago I wanted to buy a horizontal bandsaw...
Put a WANTED TO BUY ad on Craigslist... Received about 30 replies over the course of three days asking if my saw was still available and if they could buy it... the typical escrow scam.
Ended up telling one of them, "how about this... Send CASH... I'm an escrow service. When I receive CASH you'll get the saw, which I don't have."
