Just saw Senna in the theater today and I highly recommend it. It's chock full of great race footage, tons of candid behind the scenes stuff, and LOTS of tension between Prost and Senna. Just go see it. It's playing now in DFW at the Angelika in Dallas (Mockingbird Station). Probably also playing in hurricane-ravaged NYC as well as L.A. and Chicago. Who knows. Seriously, just go see this flick. It's powerful stuff...

As a side note, I was shocked to find the theater PACKED for a 3:30 show on a Saturday. When we got out, there was already a looong line of people waiting to get into the next show. And they didn't look like your average car dorks, either. Lots of chicks, lots of old folks, lots of kids, lots of regular people not wearing McLaren shirts and Lotus jackets.

I think netflix had it on instant watch for a day or two last year. I'm pissed that I missed it

I just found out it's in Denver for a week. May have to make the effort to get up there to check it out. The trailer looks great.

It's so elusive, I will just buy the DVD for father's day, then claim it as my own.

I got the 1080p version of hd-torrents.org about a week ago. I thought it was amazing.

I haven't gotten the torrent yet because I want to see it on the big screen. Usually I'm not geh like that. Luckily it's showing at a cool cinema not too far from me so I'm going to check it out on the silver screen before dl'ing it.

Finally saw this over the weekend with my little brother. (literally took a near divorce to convince my wife to let me go out occasionally).

It was GOOD.

We HAD to go karting afterwards...which was an absolute blast...especially after a few Blue Moons.

Yes, it was neat to have his perspective presented in footage of the whole controversy...and while I never actually hated Prost before...I almost do now, and definitely lost some respect for the French.

Was amazing to see Prost cursing Senna when he had a real runoff area where there would have been a tirewall had it not been for Ayrton's efforts the day before. Oh...and Senna definitely started that shit...a real man just finishes things like that.



I did think he was a little bit rude with Sir Jackie Stewart, but in the context I'm sure he was upset with the injustice going on in F1 at the time.

Yep, saw it twice. Cried the first time. Girlfriend liked it so much the first time, she actually insisted we go again when some friends asked! I was against spending the cash (Studio 35 has great beer so I never get out for under $40!). Anyway, she wants to go again before it ends next Thursday. My gal is awesome; at dinner after the movie she said "We should buy a race car. I wanna do that."

Anyway, I digress. Go see it!! Also, I couldn't find a good torrent on Pirate Bay. I want to own it. I do have an old, hacked dvd player that will play all region dvds, I may just buy it from amazon in region 2 format.

yeah, i saw it a few weeks ago. definitely amazing and anyone that hasn't seen it should, even if you're not an f1 fan.

I saw it twice this past weekend. I definitely teared up the first time, the second time I was with the BROS so I had to hold it in.

Ha! Between friends and acquaintances from a local vintage motorcycle group, I ended up getting about 20 people to go to the showing we attended. I looked around at the end and there were all these dudes trying to subtly wipe a tear from their eye. Kind of amusing, and a bit touching in its own right.

It's really good, and while you know what will happen, still really sad.

So, any other really great car/driver/gearhead movies that you've seen?

I for one think that "love the beast" is really, really good, actually describing the gearhead mentality for the masses.

You really gotta see "The world's fastest Indian".
It's a fantastic movie, starring Anthony Hopkins as a crazed up old guy from Australia, taking his old crappy homebuilt Indian bike to the Salt Flats in Utah. (Not so crappy when he gets it going though..)

It's based on the life of Burt Munro, although it is a dramatized movie, not a documentary.

You'll never be able to pee on a tree without smiling after this :D

I think it was a good rivalry. Wish it hadn't started out the way it had, but I think they both handled it with class by the time it was over.

I was young enough at the time I didn't know the whole backstory. I just grew up with my first two years of watching F1 being Senna's last two, and them already well set in their rivalry.

I do think Prost, despite all that happened, still had a tremendous amount of respect for Senna. They just had different ways of going about things, and Senna never let things go.

Senna will always be THE magician in my eyes though.

Love the Beast is good. Love the moments where Jezza is ragging on muscle cars being unable to turn and Bana is getting angrier but trying to hold it in.

World's Fastest Indian is good as well. They cheesed up the plot but what do you expect?

Le Mans is still the greatest motorsport/car movie ever made, in my opinion. Not bothering to look this up, but the camera car actually finished something like 8th overall in the race, but was disqualified because they didn't follow the proper rules for driver changes and so on.

I downloaded a BR rip of it. Only way to watch movies in my book is in 5.1 surround. It was pretty good, the GF even found it somewhat enjoyable. Either this movie was very poorly edited, or I got a funky copy with lots of interview scenes interjected. It would go from epic race car action with music to a music-less interview and then back without any fades. Sometimes the music was quiet and there would be a frame or two of loud noise before going to a quiet interview which would then reveal the source of the loud noise as it "continued" the movie. Other than that, I am pretty amazed by the quality of the video and audio they managed to pull from these late 80s early 90s cameras.

Indeed, it's commercialized, but in a better way then expected.
When I watched it, I sat around waiting for some shit to happen to the guy, and for him and his naive mind to get fucked over by someone.
But they didn't, and it's just a 100% feelgood movie.

I actually gained a little bit of hope for the world after watching it.
It was like the opposite of 2.5 men :jerkit:

This is moving off topic, but I don't know how anyone can watch a CBS comedy without immediately shooting themselves in the face afterward.

Finally downloaded it and watched it. Made me tear up like a little bitch. I didn't have English subtitles so I feel like I missed out on a lot of the interviews and whatnot

I can't believe they never mentioned the British GP when Nigel Mansel gave Senna a lift back to pits.
