Going gray before my 24th birthday.

Sometime last year around October I found a single gray hair. Now I have 4 and i'm 3 months away from my 24th birthday. I know there is nothing I can do, but seeing myself age like that and being reminded of it every morning I look in the mirror is making me kind of depressed. I'm not like omg im gonna die tomorrow depressed, but also this feeling of im not gonna live forever is pissing me of. I dont think about it all the time, but sometimes its upsetting.

I know people have worse then a few grays, some even lose their hair, but how the hell does one just get over it and go on. I mean really get over it, like forget about it entirely and accept whats dealt.

The only thing, I guess ,I can look forward to is eventually looking like Raiden.

johndoe 01-13-2009 10:20 AM

I know the feeling. Turning twenty-five this year makes me think at least a third of my life is over and I have nothing to show for it.

I had this same exact thought two nights ago.

I started pretty early and have quite a bit now. I look at it this way, I rather be gray with a full head of hair than be balding. I never really stressed over it and just accepted it. It's still nice to have the stylist ask me if I want her to thin the top. I'm in my early 40's.

I wouldn't mind going bald or graying. I shave my head anyway it would save me the time.

By keeping in mind that George Clooney, Sean Connery, Ralph Fiennes, and Daniel Craig all have a few gray hairs, and they are (from what I understand from the magazine covers at the supermarket) the sexiest men in the known universe.

boardboy330 01-13-2009 10:58 AM

I am going bald...started shaving my head - and I swear on everything holy...almost every woman I meet says shaved heads are sexy. Bald FTW!

akaryrye 01-13-2009 11:01 AM

I started going bald at 18, I am 25 now and more bald than most men in their mid 30s. I just keep it short though and it looks alright. Does not seem to affect how the ladies see me or anything.

BenR 01-13-2009 11:01 AM

I started getting gray hairs before I was 13. Out of all the things that come with aging this is not a big deal.

sixshooter 01-13-2009 11:01 AM

It looks distinguished on a guy to have a little gray.
Girls will think of you as being better prepared to support them, lol.
Given the choice I'd rather have a little gray than be a pimple-faced kid.
Welcome to adulthood. And recognize that your time here is short.
Feel better or worse now?

y8s 01-13-2009 11:10 AM

i dont have many gray hairs (full head of hair though!) but where it bugs me is in my beard. they just stand out there.

I've got a full on brindle beard going right now, shit I'm only 32 LOL.

gman3 01-13-2009 12:53 PM

Feeling depressed now? Its just the first sign of little Sam never standing at attention again. Generally you have 5 years after the first gray then its E.D. time
Have a Nice Day

icantthink4155 01-13-2009 12:57 PM

You poor old bastards...

messiahx 01-13-2009 01:14 PM

Don't feel so bad, Sam. I'm 20 and I've already lost at least half of my hair. First noticed the balding beginning when I was 16. Gray is better than balding. And just a couple years ago I had a mane of hair that went down to my shoulders. Oh well. Can't do shit about it, so I just don't worry...well, sometimes I think it'll hurt my chances w/women my age, but this hasn't happened yet.

slutz4 01-13-2009 01:26 PM

get over it, I started going bald in high school. Who cares about a few gray hairs. Some people have naturally gray hair anyways

While true, its not looking sexy I am worried about.

Yea balding would be worse. If I end up like Olderguy, I guess I'll be thankful.

i hear technology is reaching a point where it may be possible to prolong human life indefinitely--within your lifetime.

I feel ya Sam, I got a few (27) and am thinning a lil, AND gut keeps getting bigger, AND have a kid & wife....yup tick tock is what I hear at night when trying to sleep, lol

Seriously tho, def sucks to be reminded about dying which is something you just don't think about at all...at least not affecting yourself...

Maybe freeze yourself before you get too old, then get defrosted when they can replace any of your busted parts just like our cars... Technically we are the ones granting our cars the gift of immortality no???

Just remember that there are a lot quicker ways to go than getting old.

I was just now confronted with a dark blue Chevy Venture minivan coming across the grass median backwards at me while I'm doing 50 mph. I was in the left lane of three and it was drizzling rain. The combination of my braking and steering inputs had me in a 4 wheel drift over to the right lane and around the van (pickup trucks get light in the ass end easy). The van ended up in the middle of the three lanes. Luckily, there was no one to my right.

That got the adrenaline going pretty good.

Everything on the passenger seat ended up on the floor, but I did it all driving with one hand and talking to the office on the cell with the other.

I'm worried about living long enough to be old. Rightfully so, I suspect.

johndoe 01-14-2009 08:20 AM

^^^ True. When I do go I do not want it to be a violent death. Old age for me please.

You'd rather be cramped up with arthritis, shitting yourself, alone in a nursing home?

No, he's hoping his kids will take care of him.

viperormiata 01-14-2009 02:13 PM

guys come on! I turned 20 last september and I feel old as fuck. I guess now I feel a little better because i'm not the only one feeling this way.

Please, a couple gray hairs is nothing. I have ALOT, enough so that most people I talk to mention it the first time they get close. My friends 22 year old sister said that my gray made me look more matuer. I thought she was joking until about 2am that night when she came over for some fun.

It can always be worse though, remember that. I had to learn that the hard way.

He'd rather be cramped up with arthritis, shitting himself, alone in a nursing home paid for by his kids because they got tired of changing grandpa's diapers and his wild dymentia.

Thank god I still look like i'm 14. I get ID'd then ID'd again and then still no one believes me. I had to get tattoos and grow a beard so people don't ask for my ID in a rated R movie.

When I'm 30, I'll look like a 22 year old in my prime.

My roommate on the other hand started loosing his hair in 9th grade. I think it has something to do with all the vodka he drinks and cigarettes he smokes. Eastern European thing(He's Lithuanian).

Mach929 01-14-2009 03:26 PM

i'm still going strong at 28 with no grays or hair loss. i don't mind going gray but balding would suck since i have an ugly head, i shaved it completely about a year ago, not pretty. It looked like i used my head for too many things it's not meant for. I've got my fingers crossed because none of my uncles are at all bald, just gray.

Yea but youre an alcoholic, so its expected you would age twice as fast.

FHS 01-15-2009 05:09 PM

A few grey hairs in your 20's is no big deal and fairly common. I picked up a few in my 20's, a few in my 30's, and a few more in my forties (I'm 44). You would still have to take a pretty close look to notice them, and I have a full head of jet black hair. Like someone mentioned, the place where my gray hairs stick out is in my beard. It's like I have a scalp that's in its early 30's and a beard that's in its fifties.
