Google Voice

Google Voice

I watched the little video, can't figure out what the real advantage is. I don't have a home phone, the wife and I use our mobile phones as our main phone. Is there one in my situation? This can't replace my carrier, can it? (I wouldn't think so, but it's worth asking)

I got excited and thought it was one of those things that you type and it will talk for you. Great for prank calls.

This seems fairly useless for me.

Use Google ? Are you fookin serious or have you been censored from the WWW over the last 5 years (and not just using the USA Web) ?
I wouldn't touch Google with a lepers cane !

I'd rather they just use a couple of words to say "Google voice is such and such" rather than make me watch some propaganda film.

kotomile 06-27-2009 07:48 PM

I watched the film and I still don't know what the big deal is.

Bringing this one back up, anyone have an invite to give?

y8s 06-11-2010 10:31 PM

sorry, i asked on facebook and had good results. got it from a google employee of course.

i've been using it off and on with my android phone. the integration is amazing. you can set it up to work seamlessly as your phone's real number or decide for each call and text message. i forward all my calls to it for the voicemail features--transcription and the ability to play back from the phone or computer.

Best part is free calling to canada.

UrbanSoot 06-12-2010 01:14 AM

I think I might have one left. PM me your e-mail.

Nagase 06-12-2010 01:18 AM

Actually just had one emailed to me! Thank you though! i don't see any invites for me to give out, however. :(

icantthink4155 06-12-2010 09:05 AM

Ive had a number for them for a while. I got on the waiting list when I first learned about it.

I've been waiting forever for one if you've still got it.

y8s 06-12-2010 07:17 PM

by some miracle or coincidence, I JUST received the one I requested directly from google today. wtf.

skidude 06-12-2010 08:28 PM

I signed up for google voice a year or so ago, but I haven't really used it since I got my iPhone. I don't really see much benefit besides being able to send texts for free or something. The voicemail transcription would be cool, but in my experience it wasn't very accurate.

Ok, now I want it. I dig visual voice mail, but don't want to pay for it. Someone send me an invite since I don't facebook.
