Got some "FREE" welding stuff

My wife's grandfather gave me a bunch of stuff the last time we went to see him (10 hours away). In the booty was an old O/A torch set. The hoses were dry rotted and the pair of bottles were empty and out of inspection date but it was still a nice present. I said "FREE" in the subject because I've got $81 in it right now. $34 for a #2 40 CF Acetylene refill, $24 for a #3 80 CF Oxygen refill, and $23 for a new twin hose that does not fit (I screwed up and bought hoses with B-B fittings instead of A-A fittings). The bottles were old as hell and out of inspection but instead of trading in the #3 O2 bottle I went to the store with a current inspection #3 Argon/CO2 bottle that I was not using and got it refilled. The Acetylene bottle HAD TO be out of inspection as well but for some reason there was no date on it. They gave me the benefit of the doubt and swapped it out as well. This was nice because the local gas company charges $26.50 per bottle for inspection.

I have no idea what I am looking at or how to use the torch but there is some good stuff in there as far as I can see. Some of the loot (I'll build a web page for the torch at some point):

Looks like 10 different tips for the MECO Aviator Jet torch. I see four cleaning kits, a set of gauges, and a MECO Aviator Jet cutting torch.

At the top (in the yellow cup) and the lower right there is a big pile of silver solder. Not sure what all the other solder is.

Again, not sure what all this is. I see some aluminum repair stuff, some SilPhos and a gang of unknown solder. I'll have to investigate this further.

^ Ok. I'm not the only one confused.

Nice little gift though. I know nothing of the value of the torches and misc. other stuff, but those two double gauge regulators are probably worth $40-50 each.

I enjoy building web pages. People enjoy looking at my web pages. If someone gets some joy or education from my page on the torch setup then it will be worth it. No more worthless than making a website concerning putting a turbo on a Miata.

Really. I get people every week or so from all over the world telling me that they like my website. It's pretty hard to figure who I am and how to contact me from the site so it is neat that they dig that far into it to seek me out.

Inspirational. I'm going to be following your lead and making one about my Q-tips.

rmcelwee 06-08-2013 10:56 PM

I don't think a q-tip compares to getting hundreds of $$$ in free antique torch equipment and $1000 in silver solder...

I'm just teasing you.. It's nice stuff, I'm just surprised that you'd build a website about it.

Page, not site. My ADD makes me forget about stuff very quickly. Most of my webpages are like post it notes to myself on certain things. The torch page will remind me of the size of a #2 and #3 bottle, type equipment I have, etc. You would not believe how often I have to go back and look up stuff that I wrote down on my site.

Last page I made:

I cant wait 'til I have my own house and can have a chicken coop...or welding equipment for that matter.

What exactly are you planning on welding the chickens to?

I'm going to use my acetylene torch to heat my skillet and make fresh eggs every day.

Seriously, fresh, real free range eggs are way better that most people know.

Eggland's Best come semi-close to being edible but there is nothing like real eggs...

We have some chickens that moved to my shop property. I love those little birds. It adds a little quality to the work experience here.

I love when they walk up to you and turn their heads and go, "Bwaaa"
