LOL...I just spanked an FMII miata. He said it was only at 8psi and mine is at 10psi. Pulled a good car on him through 2nd and half of 3rd. I was really surprised, I always thought they were faster?

Anyone else been there done that?

they only run like 200-220 rwhp yeah no sweat.the only down side is that these guys have the cash to upgrade to the better diff, unlike some of us

i built my fm2 for $2800. easily upgradeable to external wg and 15 psi.

you may be faster, but he's not going to have the gremlins the greddy has.

Actually the Greddy turbo is capable of making enough power to smack the FM-II around, especially if the Greddy has been carefully tuned and the FM is running the defaults.

I recently saw an FM U3 Ubercharger get on the dyno at 12 PSI and only pull 183 RWHP... Bad tuning will kill your performance every time. FM's defaults are enough to get the car running well enough to drive but are not near what can be pulled out of the system.

People knock the little Greddy a bit too much. While the "kit" lacks, the turbo itself is nothing to laugh at.

PS - a fully tuned and tweaked FM-II may have given you more trouble.

GOSH DARN! 2800 is pretty dern good! Oh yeah and gremlins suck but thats what makes the greddy so much fun. I actually enjoy building the kit up and taking care of gremlins. :bigtu:

You're damn skippy building the thing is half the fun.
I suppose I could have my car shipped someplace with a blank check in the glovebox and just say, give me EVERYTHING!
But if that were me, I'd be too busy reading the Robb Report, or ordering a set of engraved cigar cutters... perhaps polishing my Rolex collection (which I do once a year);) .

sounds familar.and even bought a link ecu.but so far when i figure out a bug or flaw you feel like youve acomplished something.:gay:

I dunno. I have used bits from FM - Link ecu and assoicated parts, but I am a person who loves to figure it out as I go - the research helps me to learn a hell of a lot more, the design part is fun, and seing the whole thing put together is the best.

I must admit that when ever I do something I am always amazed that the car starts!

Now to the other part - the wife would FREAK if I spent the cash to buy a fully ready kit! I guess that the setup I have now probably has cost me $2.5K and I only have a little more to spend to be pretty much finished. Better than the $5K on the kit.

I personally would prefer to drive the car rather than wrench on it. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the work I've done on the car. But to me there is value in NOT having to do it. My primary reason for choosing the Greddy path is economics.

Am I boaring? Guess so.

I just have a problem when someone says that DIY (or Greddy, since face it that's what you end up doing in the long run) is so rewarding, yet they haven't installed their setup yet. Careful what you say, you could be hating life when it takes you months to get the thing running well.

Haha I like that but your forgetting another group of people. I dont like turbod cars. I just wanted to build a completed kit...the ghettoist kit ever (which I did) and it worked. THen i took it off.

Well every one to their own. I have installed my 'kit' - not Greddy however, all asembled from parts that I figured out (with much help from here and miata.net I must add) and so far I have been able to start it up every time.

But this is what I like to do. I have friends that when they heard I took a dremal cutter to my hood thought I was mad. I on the other hand, had a ball and 2 cool looking (IMHO) hood scoops that flow lots of hot air out from under the hood!

I have raped some FM2's back when I had a Greddy. I turned that little 15G up to 15psi and just raced about anyone. Not just miata's I raced DSM's, 3000GT's, Mustangs, Camaros, old 440 6 pack Mopars....lol

I actually beat most anything that came across me. I would estimate I was around 235whp with that setup. I sometimes miss that turbo.

:D Been here and there! Now I have firmly joined the Darkside - I must get myself back over there soon and see what you lot have been up to.

I finally got turboed and now am working on intercooler etc. as down here with ambiant temps year round in the high 80s I need it!

Everything else is good - how about with you?
