Guess it's roommate time!

Well, it's that time of the year again; roommate time! Seriously, I think it's time again.
Here's what's going on. I have this 1200sqft place...2 bedroom, 2 bath, garage, yard, blah blah blah. Currently I'm paying 650 a month plus utilities. I haven't had to worry about making it every month for the past year because I had the ex-fiance to pay half the shit. Well...I'm starting to fall in the hole again( full time student, part time job). My buddy and his fiance and me have been good friends for a couple years now and have talked about moving in together...well...for a couple years now. Now, I guess it's the time. Most likely summer, when their lease is up.
I just hope this time it's not a mistake. The last two roomies I had(a couple years ago) were nightmares. Just trying to avoid that this time. We hang out at each others places all the time so I know they are clean and pretty quiet for the most part. They also know I smoke da stuff and said it's not a big deal either. So yeah...
Guess there's no real point to this thread, just saying. :loser:

IMO the only thing roommates are good for are splitting up the bills. That is unless the roommate is your significant other. But even then, that can turn bad (I know all too well about that ).

Worth a try though right? Why not. But I've seen many a friends move in with each other, have a fight, one moves out, end of friendship. Just make sure you sleep on it. Goodluck!

i would say don't do it. It's going to get weird being alone with a couple all the time. There's going to be tension when she wants alone time with him but he's hanging out with you, etc.

Yeah that could turn bad but, if you all are friends it might work out

Atlanta93LE 03-21-2009 05:53 PM

Wow, $650 for 2/2 w/ garage? What a steal.

worst case is they step on your toes a little.

best case is they make enough dinner together to feed a third.

350$ for 2/2 apt with personal garage here. Houses round here are even cheaper if you can fill all the rooms.

So even though they are only taking one room, are they paying 2/3 of the bills? If so, it's cheap rent for you. But, you will always be the minority on house vote, then, in your own place.

Pics of new female roommate to be!

+1. Its not worth it if they arent. I have 2 roomies in a 2/2 and I just plain wouldn't do it, no matter how much I love them, if it wasnt for the fact they pay 2/3rds of the rent.

And who knows, maybe they are looking for the occasional three-way.

Just don't cross swords!

Holy crap. That's less than HALF of what I pay for a shitty 1-bedroom apartment, sans garage. It's also about a fifth of the rent at my old place, which was a 2 bedroom/2 bath townhouse, also without garage. :fawk:

At my old place we did rent by room and bills by individual. i.e., I had a room to myself so I paid half the rent, and the two guys sharing the other room each paid 1/4. But for electric, water, cable, etc., it was all divided by 3. Most fair way to do it? Maybe not, but I was willing to pay half the rent to have a room and bathroom to myself. I also got one of the better parking spaces and most of the dining room to myself, and the roommates were OK. Given the choice between that and my present situation, I'd gladly go back.
