Guess what I saw while out for a spin today...

I hit some curves for a little fun at lunch...nice and warm today. Anywhoo, I was headed back to work and saw this. Flipped a U and got a couple of shots. Don't see many of these on the road lol. This guy is local and owns a bunch of Porsches, including a GT1 and a 550 Spyder. I've never seen one out on the road, though.

Don't worry it'll be cold here again this weekend lol.

Is he lucky, or does he just have the means to write large checks? Are those extremely rare or something? Clearly I am not an aficionado of the P-car world.

Is that on highway 24?
|
Yeah, Hwy 24. You a former Coloradan?
|
Yup, I used to love driving my RX7 up there at highly illegal rates of speed. :)
|
Nice! I work in downtown CS, so it's a quick drive over for a lunch break. I like to do laps in the sweet curvy section between Manitou and Cascade. Another favorite quick trip of mine is up/down Cheyenne Canyon. Oh, and the Garden of the Gods Park loop road at about 2am...that's an effing blast. How long were you out here?
|
I was chased by a park ranger through Garden of the Gods late at night, lol.. I also miss the car culture there in general.. I lived out there for about four years while I was in the Army, but I moved back to NJ to go to college and got stuck here afterward. I was going to move back, enrolled at UCCS for graduate studies and took two online classes while I was waiting to move back, but two classes turned into a distance MBA.

High altitude is tits for turbo cars, no? In my B5 S4 days, I remember sooooooo many of those dudes were from Co. but AWD helps too, I guess.
|
wasn't there some rumor about those having nuclear powered something?
|
Those aren't legal for use on the street right? Or does he have one of the few converted ones?
|
The guy is lucky, and has balls.
The car is fetching an incredible price even before it has reached any sort of an antique status, so, the majority of the 959s are kept in climate controlled garages, an never touch the pavement. I would love to see one in real life. |

Both I'd think. Only 337 produced from '86-89. Original list price $225K.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_959 Remember, $225k in 1987 is roughly $440k today. That was a kickass car, ahead of it's time. Similar to a 426 Hemi Superbird/69 Dodge Daytona. I think 0-60 was ~3.7 sec. Back then, a Lamborghini Countach was about 5.0 sec. Even by today's standards, 3.7 seconds is blazingly fast. |
Tasty. I've seen some rare shit...and that is on my list of "to see" cars. My GF was at the Porsche museum and saw a few there....but none on the road.
