Default I'm in so much trouble (ws again)

My wife wanted to wait until out bathroom was finished being renovated to bring her cat from her parents house. So the bathroom is 90% done and she brought it up on saturday(yesterday). Today she was out all day with her mom doing a volunteer bowling thing for kids and i was outside working on the yard and stuff.

For the life of me i can't find the damn cat, i'm really thinking it somehow got out

Check in random cabinets. I have seen some cats sneak into some pretty stupid areas.

found the cat!

only problem is it's in the heating vent. we apparently forgot to put the cover back on in a bedroom we recently painted and stuck a dresser in front of it. when you reach for it it backs up and goes in deeper.

now we've got tuna on plate in front of the vent

Just wait, it'll come out eventually.

I had a cat (kittenish) that would not stay out of the ENORMOUS tree in our back yard. One time it just climbed too high for a mere mortal to climb up high enough to retrieve her. When she got hungry (52hrs later) she figured out how to get down.

Cats are very smart.

The best thing you can do is wait it out til it calms down and comes out on its own. It feels somewhat safe where it is and the more you try calling it or urging it out the more safe its going to feel inside the vent realizing that you cant get to it.

Eventually when it relaxes and isn't so stressed out it'll come out and you'll find it out in the open. Grab it, lock it in a room without a vent while you cover them all up!

They do like to try to fit in dumb places for some reason. Mine got stuck face down in a triangle shaped nook between the corner of two kitchen walls and the back of the kitchen cabinet. For two weeks I saw him get half way down in there investigating this hole until one day I heard scratching and meowing coming from the kitchen. I found him flailing, hind legs and a tail sticking out. The hole was only big enough to fit in headfirst, he hadn't thought about how to get out of it. GF had to climb up on top of the cabinets and pull him out by his legs. They do learn though. He hasn't been up there since.

Leave it alone, don't scare it and hopefully it won't be dumb enough to go deeper. If it's more your wife's cat she might do better at coaxing it out.

If it's a male cat, play this as loud as you can near the closest vent.

The cats my parents have would disappear into vents, the ceiling, etc. when they were finishing their house. Wouldn't see 'em for a couple days sometimes. It'll eventually come out on its own. When it does, just go cover the vents and forget chasing the cat until the vents are sealed up. Cats rock.

My girlfriend left and one of the damn cats got sick that day, threw up and stopped eating for two days. Granted, the plump 21-pounder could use the diet, but I really didn't need to deal with a sick cat.

well the local cvs didn't have any laser pointers. it's a she, and she's disappeared in there somewhere. it looks like all we can do is wait.
