This Halloween brought to you by Rust-Eze Bumper Ointment

Taking a short break from working on the car. I know it is a little late but I thought you guys might get a kick out of this.

So my daughter got to choose her Halloween costume this year. She just turned three. Mommy sits down with her and the costume catalog and asks her what she wants to be this year...
A Princess? no...
A Witch? no...
A Little Mermaid? no...
A Ballerina? no...

KA-CHOW! :bigtu:

She picked it out on her own, I swear, with no prompting from me, and insisted that is what she wanted. I was not even in the room. Daddy added a few modifications to make it sweeter. Notice the fully functional racing headset, and the custom composite (OK cardboard) frame to hold out the cloth car panels.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree:D

You gotta teach the little ones at a young age: "there is no problem that can not be solved with more boost"

Awesome!

Does she come out and turn wrenches with ya too?

ZX-Tex 11-07-2009 01:11 PM

Yeah she does. I try to come up with something interesting but safe on the car for her to 'work on'. Plus I let her watch me fabricate stuff in the garage. She knows to cover up her ears whenever Daddy grabs a power tool :D

Same here...three fold benefits really...time with her, more time in garage, and she learns.

My daughter still bolts for the door as soon as I pick up power tools. We're working on PPE though.

She still wanted to be Tinkerbell this year though, and was Cinderella last year...I've got a long way to go.

She did get in the car for a spin around the block the other day (carseat double harnessed), and last time we ran to O'Reilly she picked out an Eleanor Mustang GT500 Hot Wheels without any persuasion whatsoever. Guys at the counter were impressed...trained her well.

I've already decided I'm not just going to "give" her a car at 16. She's going to have some part in both the purchase and repair/building of it so she understand the function, value and care of transportation.

Yeah, that's cool stuff. I just showed my 8 year old daughter the other day how to change and top off the oil. I was proud that she was actually smart enough to ask what happens if I put too much oil into it and it goes past "F", even though at first I hadn't said anything about it being a bad thing.

Get those girls into karting! Racing is like hockey, gotta start em young.

NA6C-Guy 11-07-2009 02:31 PM

I want a daughter some day. I hope she will be into cars of her own will, I think that would be cool.

ZX-Tex 11-07-2009 03:39 PM

Girls are cool. I told my wife I really did not care if it was a boy or girl when she was pregnant. So far that has been the case. I may change my mind when she starts dating.

In fact, I do not remember anyone we were hanging out with on Halloween saying anything about how 'Lightning McQueen' was a 'boy' costume, not even in jest. I think it is great that most people seem to be getting over the whole gender role thing.

I would like to get her into karting or something like that. I think my wife would shit a brick though. I will have to just wait and see how things go. I need to get her one of those little electric cars so she can haul ass around the house and yard. I'll modify it of course :giggle:

NA6C-Guy 11-07-2009 03:43 PM

Thats why I want a boy and a girl, that way the brother can keep an eye out on the sister. I hope he is protective so I don't have to be worried all the time.

:giggle: Don't want to be THAT dad, the one who is overly protective and chases all of her guy friends off. I don't think I would be though, hard to say.

ZX-Tex 11-07-2009 03:48 PM

Yeah I know. Though I like to think now I will not be THAT dad, you never know until you get to that situation. I don't care how buff the asshole is. I own a shotgun and know how to use it. Maybe she will be a lesbian and then I will not have to worry about pregnancy or any of that other crap at all.
