We had this

Attachment 191346

A 2006 xterra 4x4 OR edition, 6 speed with rear locker.

Now we have this.

Attachment 191347

2010 2500 cummings, 4x4 crew cab, long bed.

The Dodge is a great truck, tows our 29' fifth wheel like it's not even there.
But we miss the xterra, it was a excellent all around vehicle.

I have this:

I am a man and I can rip your house off its foundation at @ 43 psi.

I've got a honda ridgeline and I love it. It's 4 doors, AWD and can tow 5000lbs. Girly truck goes well with the girly car lol.

If you have a 27k budget and you aren't looking at a low-miles (sub-100k) 2005-2006 full-sized diesel from Chevy or Dodge, you are a fool. The first time you cruise up a 6% grade in overdrive at 65mph with 5000lbs hanging off the back end, you'll understand.

pusha 01-31-2011 08:26 PM

No love for Powerstrokes? I've never had a problem w/ mine.

Savington 01-31-2011 08:43 PM

7.3, sure. Maybe the new 6.7, hasn't been out yet. 6.0 or 6.4, run screaming.

His house is designed to be towed.

pusha 01-31-2011 08:45 PM

Yep, just put the wheels back on.

dstn2bdoa 01-31-2011 11:35 PM

I love those 7.3's. Every time I see a nice one, I tell my wife we should have gotten one of them, and saved $40k. She's tired of hearing it.

Buy only as large a truck as you think you will need on a monthly basis. These guys running around with large diesel trucks as around town cars are doing nothing but wasting money. If you need a large truck, buy it, but a decent Tacoma will haul your little go-kart around with little issue

The 6.0 wasn't a bad engine in the later years if you put decent studs in the head. Dodge's have had assorted fuel problems since 1998.5, and the Chevy squats like a dog any time you put more then groceries in it. The diesel trucks are also FAR more expensive to work on. Like a Harley Vs a Honda comparing the prices on our 99 CTD to our 97 I6 Jeep Cherokee.

Not sure if anything has changed with the Xterra/Pathfinder transmissions today, but my '98 Pathfinder with a stick was rated for 3500 lbs, and the auto 5000 lbs. Needless to say I'd never tow much more than my snowmobile and some other crap around with my truck, max 2000 lbs. If you are serious about towing the Miata around you need a real tow rig. If it was me I'd get an older diesel tow rig and nice DD :)

That's only the motor rebuild.

ON TOPIC: 2004-2007 Dodge 2500/3500 5.9 Cummins. Best fuel economy, most reliable. Find something else that will get a real 21 mpg unloaded, 16-17mpg with an open single car trailer loaded, and still be able to tow a 19k pound gooseneck at 65-70mph while maintaining 11.5mpg?

jacob300zx 02-01-2011 03:13 AM

Get the 5.0 Mustang and never look back.
