Red face Help me replace my daily.

I have a 2007 Honda CR-V, and I'm beginning to hate this thing.

Don't get me wrong. It's been an excellent car. Gets phenomenal gas mileage for a car of its size, and has a ton of storage space. Have had ZERO problems with it in 80,000 miles and nearly three years too.

But it has awful road noise, a suspension that beats you to death, and (if I'm honest) a brutally uncomfortable interior.

I drive over 25,000 miles per year for work, mostly highway miles to and from service calls for customers out of town/state. I need something with good gas mileage, has a quiet and comfortable ride on the highway, and has enough storage space to haul computer equipment (think server or large color laser printer) if need be. That last one is the kicker, and limits me to a hatchback or another SUV.

I welcome any and all input.

Thanks,
Trent

Prius. Flame me all you want, but it has every single one of the things you're looking for.
gas mileage is phenomenal, 45-55mpg
interior space is huge
very comfy for an econo car
pretty damn quiet

My parents have one and aside from its looks I absolutely love it.

How much you looking to spend? And what do you consider good gas mileage? 25mpg+?

Spoken like someone who's never driven one. As a commuter car, an appliance that gets you from point A to point B economically and comfortably, Priuses are terrific cars. The interior space of a Camry, size of a Corolla, and an honest to god 40-45mpg, no matter how hard you beat on it.

they're actually very awesome cars if you sit in them, like 18psi said.... that thing is definitely faster than a civic, and has A LOT A LOT A LOT of room! and the new ones looks pretty neat!

if you're looking for something that saves gas (i haven't checked cabin/trunk space because I wasn't interested in the car at the time) try checking out the new Lexus HS250 =] seems pretty satisfiable... you have the option of wasting gas and going hybrid LOLOL(as seen on the commercial)

He drives an 02 civic sedan.
We actually raced to like 80 or something. Longest/most boring race I've ever been in

When I actually beat him he looked like he just got beat up by a girl. Never said anything after hahaha

I've got a buddy that loves his, and takes long trips back home and to school in it.

There's also a decent amount of mods you can do to it. He just finished putting a MS3 exhaust on it, which was cheap (upgrade secondhands) and sounds surprisingly nice.

Crown Vic / Lincoln Town Car / Grand Marquis.

While highway mileage isn't as good as a Prius, it's not nearly as bad as you might think. In town, these things drink gas, but on the freeway they do OK. But consider that whatever extra you wind up paying in gas will be more than offset by the fact that you can buy one in good shape for peanuts these days, since even the 65+ crowd have been ditching them for econoboxes lately. Service (both parts and labor) are cheap.

The trunk is big enough to haul around a PDP-8, so I'm pretty sure it'll accommodate whatever hardware you're carrying. As to ride comfort- you might as well be sitting on a comfy couch. You could drive from Miami to Vancouver in one of these, and not be sore when you got there.

Just avoid the ones with the automatic self-leveling air suspension. That system was FTL. (very unreliable)

Although I agree it looks damn good for a wagon

I have a friend with an s60r and it does not get 25mpg even on the highway. Even with really careful driving. More like 20-22 TOPS.

And its pretty slow for 300hp, I beat him in my 06 wrx with just a tune.
Also that is quite a nice chunk of change. Didn't know we were talking about ANY car
I was thinking he meant a beater or at least something below 15k. Just my assumption though

since you are not bighting the Mazda3 hatch, how about an Impreza hatch like disturbed mentioned? If you are going to be hauling stuff, there is no way that you can beat a true hatcback/wagon. Sure a 240sx and Prius is a hatchback, but compared to the sheer cargo room that a wagonish style HB has there is no contest.

Mazdaspeed 3 Hatch.
Drove one once and it had some minor bolt ons and that thing would spin tires in 3rd gear. They are pretty fun to drive and get pretty good gas mileage too.

Am I the only one that thinks a Saab 9000 is the best car in the world for commuting? Even Jeremy clarkson says they're the most comfortable seats ever made, 250hp with 4 banger mpgs. If it weren't for their reliability issues I'd have one as my dd.
