Help support a new proposal for a single license plate bill in MA

Getting this out there, if you guys could, please help support this new bill that would use one plate on our vehicles in MA.
I know that some of you, like myself, hate mounting front plates on your prized vehicles either due to aesthetics or drilling holes in your bumper.

For your convenience, there is a form letter attached and the email addresses of every committee memeber.

To the Joint Transportation Committee:

I am writing to you to encourage support for S.B. 1637 which would allow us to return to a single license plate in Massachusetts.

S.B. 1637 would save the state money and resources by not having to manufacture a second plate, as well as eliminating the needless enforcement which wastes the time of our already stretched police departments.. It would also bring Massachusetts in line with other states that have already moved to a single plate requirement.

S.B. 1637 would also protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some fabricated and original bumpers. Many modern cars would also benefit from the lack of a flat-plate on the front of an otherwise aerodynamically and aesthetically curved bumper.

Finally, S.B. 1637 would also allow the state to finally eliminate the old "green" license plates that many drivers currently have. The old plates are often illegible, especially since they are no longer reflective after all these years, yet many owners continue to use them because they don't want to install a second plate. This would also help to reduce confusion and allow the state to have a single, harmonious law about license plates, instead of being the only state in the country that allows some people to use one plate while requiring others to use two.

For these and many other reasons, I encourage you to support S.B. 1637 and hope to see it become a law.

Thank you,
<your name>

I agree with you, especially since we're affectionately nicknamed "Taxachusettess," but its worth a shot. Oddly enough, I received two personal replies from the committee members this afternoon.

Thanks for not raining on my parade with a ton of 'not everyone here is from MA' arguments. I realize that and hope that the few folks who are members of this site see the thread and get (potentially) excited about the bill.

I support you, but I can only do it in spirit.

In NY plates are required on the front of cars. I don't have one on my Miata and I'm just waiting for the ticket; I know I'll get one eventually. I'll just pay the fine...

Same here. The miata has a plate because I drive it a lot in the summer, but I won't mount one to the Trans Am.

How much do you guys have to pay for plates / registration?

Michigan has no front plates, and no vehicle checks, emissions testing and what not.

frapjap 03-26-2013 10:16 AM

The price for plates here is $55. New registration is 90-100 I think?
