Default Hernia..?

I'd post this on my "home" forum (clubprotege), but somehow i feel like there may be more members here who can offer actual advice.

Yesterday morning i woke up and was farting around on the intarwebz... normal weekend morning. i was leaning forward and reaching for something, and at the same time i sneezed. one of those loud, "powerful" surprise sneezes. with my stomach muscles already tensed from reaching, i felt an odd "pop" near my naval. now it hurts when i sneeze, laugh, stretch it in certain directions.

at first i assumed i just pulled an ab muscle since i was still kind of stiff from sleeping on my shitty mattress, but someone suggested it might be a umbilical hernia.

thoughts? suggestions?

I was going to start a thread just like this last week. It seriously might be a good sticky.

I was loading and unloading a bunch of concrete and lumber and after lunch I hurt a good bit. But in my case I did not have pain while sneezing.

Do you have insurance?

All I know is that I ruled mine out because I could lift 80lbs objects with very little pain and I could sneeze OK. If it were me I would take it easy then see a doc since you have insurance.

WebMD?

The only thing WebMD is good for is scaring the **** out of yourself.

As for the OP, just take it easy, and if it does get worse see a doc, if you constantly think about it, of course it will "feel" worse, so get distracted.

Good point. I never look up any of my symptoms because I would probably die of fright/heart attack or something.

If you don't have a huge lump (intestines or other organs hanging out) then you are probably OK to wait to see a doctor to avoid Sunday ER visit. I would imagine it's just a muscle issue though. I've done similar and hurt myself, but after a few days the pain goes away. Not saying that is it, or not to go see an actual professional about this though.

in the past i had my mom nearby to check things out (she's been a RN in vacious ICU's for ~25 years), but my parents moved last year about 3 hours away. sucks having to throw down a copay every time i have a symptom, at least i have insurance though i suppose. i called her just now, and she gave me the "you're probably ok, but i wish i could take a look at it... you should probably go see the doctor next week".

anyway, no lump so i'll just take it easy for now. i'll call tomorrow to see when they can squeeze me in. the guy is good but he's always booked solid, been considering switching docs for a while now...
