Don't tar everyone with a SC with the same brush. Some of us know, well, something!

Wearing a racing suit and helmet while you post gives you 20x more credibility.

I have always wondered why the roots SC was more popular on the Miata. Its a PITA mechanically. I hope it had something to do with ease of tuning in the early 90's...but i doubt it.

for the record, my car has had both the m45 and still has the mp62 on it. I've had enough, going turbo. I drive the car tonight and I think I cooked another PS pump... it will be the last one ever in that car, mark my words.

for the recored, Im drunk too.

C'mon guys..

I have an MP62 under the hood, and I would not have it any other way.
This is a personal preference.
Good friend of mine has a kick *** turbo NA, I drove the thing at 7 psi (dd setting), and to tell you the truth, I loved the beastly nature of the no lag SC over the feel of the turbo setup, with its blowoff and all.

Nobody is misguided or less manly for working o their cars, and making them better machines to their liking.

And yeah, that blower whine thing.. That thing is like a police siren. I get on the gas, cars move over. Cool.

No one said that S/C is all crap. But the fun part comes when you read DK's "turbo facts"...because it's all ******* WRONG. For the record, I've had two M45 setups that were maxed out. While "fun" was a good word for them, the FMII ***** all over them. A MP62 has good potential though, I will say that. Anyone remember Big Gulp? 340rwhp on a M62.

Reliability
This is a fierce factor in both applications, superchargers have little to no maintained needed, meanwhile turbos are needed to be babied and treated correctly or they break. When a a turbo is shut off (i.e. when the engine is turned off), residual oil inside the turbo's bearings can be baked by stored engine heat. This, combined with the turbo's extremely high rpms (up to 150,000rpm) can cause problems with the turbo's internal bearings and can shorten the life of the turbocharger. (this can be solved with certain methods that have been covered on miataturbo.net)
*also, superchargers are generally a lot easier to install than turbos*
20-years ago, before he was born, this may have possibly been an issue...but then again turbo cars started crushing at leMans in 1976...I wonder how much faster they would have been if not "babied".

I don't know how I drive this thing, I should have picked-up a blower I guess.

Look at all that "lag" Hussie!! You're only doubling the stock torque at the wheels by 3,500 rpms?!?! Those hard-core s/c guys who have never driven a turbo car and have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to "turbo lag" are making way more "usable" torque at 1,500rpm! You know...where you need it most when pulling out into traffic or when crusing and need to pass another car....
150 torques at 3k rpm? That is unacceptable!

His Power Surge of TQ between 3k and 3.5k suggests he'll blow the motor and it'll be impossible to drive.

According to the 4 wise men:

A topic, IMO not covered enough, some view this as an addiction, others a PITA. What surge is, is when a turbo reaches its performance threshold, you get a jump in power. This is arguably damaging to the engine components to be subjected to huge amounts of power suddenly. This also hinders drivability, it gets hard, and annoying to drive a car that has a huge increase in power while your cruising, and you build a habit of keeping track of your RPMs. Superchargers (most) do not have surge, they develop power from the get go, and it builds up smoothly and is linear (flat on the power curve).
EDIT: I just staretd laughing out loud when I reread this line: ...annoying to drive a car that has a huge increase in power while your cruising.

Yeah...look at how flat the power deliver is on an Ubercharger (red) vs a FMII turbo kit (blue)! Notice how flat the power of that supercharger is compared to the turbo.

What about the argument about having so much "down low" torque that it would technically be harder to drive and be more likely to get unwanted wheel spin and lose control of the car?

Or here is a FM VooDoo kit (FMII without the Hydra) vs a JRSC M45 with boost upgrades. Look at how the JRSC has a much flatter power curve! Pay attention to the massive spike in power from the turbo and the smoothness from the supercharger
