Home Theater Seating, giant bean bags

Been doing the homework for a few days... can't fit any sort of couch through a 32" door into our FROG, so have decided to go with modern foam-filled-furniture.

LOVESAC is apparently the "Monster Cable" of the industry, charging 3x the average price for what I can see is exactly the same thing. And I've identified about 6-7 websites that are clearly the same guy operating multiple stores.

I've got a 12' wide space I want to fill with sacks, and then another row of "seating" in front of that. So far, I think a 6' sack flanked by two 3' sacks for the back row, and a maybe a 8' round for the front row. Trying to stay around $1k.

So far, I think the winner is either Bean Bag Chairs from Ultimate Sack - Custom Bean Bags for Kids and Adults or Bean Bag Chairs: Bean Bags & Bean Bag Furniture - Get Comfy With Comfy Sacks. As far as I can tell, they all sell the exact same products with minor variations on the same theme, except for LOVESAC which charges 3x as much as everybody else.

LoveSac
ZeusBags
UltimateSack
Foofstore
ComfySacks
SumoLounge
MojoSack
JaxxSack
CordaRoy
Xorbee
RelaxSacks
AwesomeSack
SackDaddy
Beanbagcouch
FoamFactory

Sites that I think are the same company:
CozySack
SackChairs
RelaxSacks
MonsterSack
LazySacks
SnoozeSak

Anybody have any insight into this industry or have owned these things... the wife is all about it!

Serious question can your make your own for cheep? Buy covers or make your own? Idk if it would work but I gotta think you can make your own for cheaper.

I've got a media room filled with different ones. Some from the 70's recovered several times. Some that have been made in the last few years. Real easy to make if you have a sewing machine. Think beach ball. Always make a pouch with zipper to hold the beans and then put that inside of the outside cover. It's easier to transfer the beans and if one zipper gives way you have a back up.

If you've never had an open bean bag chair covering your house with tiny pieces of styro foam, keep it that way.

Not sure about your area but in Dallas there is a place that will fill any container with your choice of beans. They have several types of foam, plastics, poly fill, pellets, etc.. they can also fill bags and vaccum it down to fit in the car. You will need twice as much fill as you would think.

I hope it works out for your room.

Bean bag chairs put me to sleep.

I kinda wanna make a HUGE one like gaylord sized bean bag chair.

Where do you find a place to fill? Google?

I checked on Craigslist and just got back from picking up a 6' sack. I'm washing the liner and cover, and will post up a pic later. $100, and it looks brand new. Great test item to see if it's what we really want.

Personally bean bags to me are a novelty. They kill my back if I sit in them longer then like 10-15 min. Then again, that's cheapo smaller Walmart types. Perhaps these ginormous ones provide more support. For extended sitting I have to have some sort of head support so I'm not in a lean back position holding my head up, otherwise it just gets uncomfortable.

Back problems are caused by not enough beans.

The styrofoam balls have just enough friction that you can make a big bean bag thats full stay under you in any shape and with any amount of support you want.

Of course, when you get up everything moves so when you sit back down you have to spend 30 seconds sorting it out again.

I thought about replacing my couch with a bed.

I gotta say... A good friend of mine bought a Lovesac, and when he told me how much it was I thought it was a waste and extremely over-priced. I flopped down on it and immediately changed my mind. That was 2-3 years ago and every time I visit their house, that sac is my seat of choice(NoHomo)

Febreeze can only cover the smoke smell for so long, and I didn't notice it last night driving home... this morning, my FROG smelled like an ashtray. Can't trust anybody on CL.

Took off the outer cover and washed it 3x... today after getting home from work (yup, by noon, suck IT!), I took all the foam out of the inner liner to give it a wash and to air out the foam.

Not the worst idea I've ever had... but certainly Top-5.

That kinda looks like the foam carpet underlay padding is made of, does it feel like that consistency?

Much more squishier... like stuffed animal foam. Most of this stuff is NOT the super-expensive "memory foam" mattress shreddings, but there are about 10 different types of shreddings in there.

You can fit a couch through a 32" door. My parents just bought a new recliner that would. The backs of the couch actually come off, so you end up with basically a narrow bed with wither arm thingys on it. If it wasnt a really quality heavy steel and mdf framed couch I would have practically been able to bring it into the house myself.

The opening to this door is only 29" wide... it depends on the couch. We have a slick black leather sectional that would fit after we took the feet off, but I'm pretty sure the type we'd want for the HT would not. It's gotta go up the stairs of this door on the right.

Inner liner going through it's second wash... then dry... then wait until you see how I'm gonna get all that foam back inside with minimal effort!

Nope... the ad said "Lovesac", but I think that's a kind of generic name people use for these things. I don't think it's an actual "Lovesac" original, but from one of the other companies I listed above... no telling which one.

To get all the foam back in, I used an old canvas frame and held it open with bungie cords... took about 1/2 hour. No residual smoke odor so far.

Kids obviously hate it.
