Thinking about selling my Adcom stuff for a home theater sound system. D-9s are just too damn big for the room.

Adcoms are forever. I am still using the GFA-555 I bought in 1985.

Screen
42" Vizeo LED XVT423SV
Brain
Emotiva UMC-1
CD Changer: yes I still has it hooked up
Adcom GCD-600
BluRay:
Sony BDP-S360
Amps:
Adcom GFA-555 for mains
Adcom GFA-535II for center
Carver AV-64 for surrounds
Speakers:
I built my mains and my sub in the 90's from designs from a company called Audio Concepts. The mains are their Orions, basically a sub/satellite design combined, they are good down to the high teens. They each have a 12" driver firing at the floor. The sub is their Titan XL with its own 250w amp. The surrounds are the Emotiva ERD-1 dipoles. Sadly, ACI folded in 2009, but another group is continuing on with their Sapphire monitor line.
Media Playback:
A gateway P-7811FX laptop connects via HDMI.

Upstairs for the living room there's a Pioneer RX-V471 (jumped on Black Friday sale from Newegg) with a Sony dvd player and a WD TV Live.

Found a picture of someone else's orions. The amount of internal bracing in the upper section is not to be believed.

Each of my complete speakers weighs about 100lbs.

In to laugh at multi-thousand dollar setups with zero room treatment or shitty room treatment.

Efini~FC3S Dec 24, 2012 10:47 PM

Priorities, son.

Haven't you seen Soviets free chair?

Braineack Dec 25, 2012 11:50 AM

I just have 3.1

Faeflora Dec 25, 2012 02:46 PM

Everyone except for brgracer and y8s have shitty mismatched center speakers. the center should be the same kind as the front left and right.

Also brgracer what are you doing for acoustical treatment in your theater. Say "nothing" and i will kill you.

Mobius Dec 25, 2012 06:48 PM

Damn Fae's all grinchy and stuff today.

My center does match my speakers.

Acoustical treatment to the room? Puhleaze. I haz children. They provide constant acoustical treatment to my entire home, unless they are asleep.

center channel can be different as long as it's voiced the same. problem is most mass market centers use MTM and are actually pretty bad for horizontal dispersion.

mgeoffriau Dec 25, 2012 11:39 PM

My L/R are located on either side of my TV. No need for center. Get over yourself Fae.

Braineack Dec 25, 2012 11:44 PM

I have a jamo lcr bar.

If you want to hear what the movie sounded like during the mix and during studio screenings then you need the same speakers... everywhere. Cept the sub of course.

Eat a dick. I can't help it if your ears are made out of cheese.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with LR. Your positioning probably is horrible though and I bet your room sounds like shit.

Anyways who really cares :jerkit:

hey have you heard the awesome new Beats by Dre headphones? They're really cool too just like people with miserable home theaters.

mgeoffriau Dec 26, 2012 01:43 AM

My home is a home, not a theater.

Go post more drunk posts and get banned. Or break some more parts.

In to laugh at more multi-10thousand dollar build threads full of fail and non-running broken miatas.

but I only have 5 speakers and 1 sub. and my tv isn't acoustically transprent. and my watts are low compared to a theatre.

it's not really the same in my tiny house as it is in a multi million dollar screening room.

I don't even have tweeters.

At least my room has a non fucked up box acoustic signature and my music/movies aren't comb filtered and phase cancelled to death. :jerkit:

Mobius Dec 26, 2012 06:23 PM

Why don't you post some details then, instead of crapping in the thread. Or are details of your setup going to be as difficult to find as details of your dyno graphs?

midpack Dec 26, 2012 06:49 PM

TV: LG 55LM6700 - 55" LED 3d
Receiver: Harman Kardon AVR 520
Front: Axiom M22
Center: Axiom VP100
Sub: 15+ yr old Infinity 12"

Got a pair of Axiom M2s sitting in a box somewhere that used to be rear speakers. They need to go back on the wall and stop collecting dust. When I move out of this townhouse and into a real house my present to myself will be a real sub.

I was thinking wall-to-wall ceramic tile for maximum echo/reverb. :fawk:

On a serious note, looking at carpet on the floor (I know not an acoustical treatment, but better than hardwood/laminate/tile/etc...), acoustic baffled ceiling tiles, and probably some well placed acoustic fabric wrapped wood frames on the walls. There has to be some balance between acoustic treatment and decor for the wife. Regardless, the layout of the general area leaves much to be desired, so there are always compromises.

First to criticize, last to post pictures.

Your house just as busted as your car/life?
