Gifts you pick out are always the best I think ;) Looks like a good deal. I got my Samsung 56'' on sale because it was about to be outdated by the newest generation of DLP. Got it for $999. Best purchase I have ever made I think.

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 12:00 AM

Only downside is it doesnt have RCA audio out so i cant hook it up to my amp and stereo system. :(
Link to the blueray they gave me with it. Now to figure out what i am doing before i buy some hmi's nvr used that shit before.

Amp and stereo get hooked up to your sat/cable box.

I have my sat box/computer/xbox and play station all hooked to my Stereo. Most newer stereos should have several inputs.

If for some reason it only has 1 input you could use a splitter.

nah i have 3 inputs i just normally ran everything into the TV and then out to the amp i have 2 free inputs atm and i could probly ditch my 6 disc cd changer as i hardly use it anymore.
So whats with this mhz issue on hmi cables the salesman was trying to sell me on is this a bandwidth issue or simply an inline filter issue. From what i have read on this forum i should just get the cheapest hdmi i can find in the lenght i need. Or am i wrong? I def dont wanna pay 100 bucks for a damn cord.

levnubhin 11-01-2009 12:41 AM

I use the cheapest cables I can find, never had an issue.

I wouldn't go with THE cheapest, but certainly no problem with the lower end cables that are under $30. The first HDMI cable I bought was a Belkin for like $12 and it was just a horrible little thing. It worked, but the quality just looked like what you would expect from a $12 HDMI cable. I eventually just got a Philips gold plated one that looked much better constructed and was only like $25. Been working fine also. Anyone who buys a Monster cable or one of the other brands that want like $100 for a 6ft cable is a fucking idiot, or has too much money and is still a fucking idiot. For the most part, as long as its shielded, a cable is a cable.

shuiend 11-01-2009 08:05 AM

monoprice.com has the cheapest cables on earth.

Ben 11-01-2009 08:13 AM

Sounds like your receiver does not have HDMi capability.
Hook your sat and bluray to the TV with HDMi cables and then run a digital audio from the tv to the stereo. Done.

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 09:01 AM

k yeah my amp is from 1994 lol still pumps out some nice sound though. I have it running on 2 112 pta peavees and a couple 3 speaker jensen boxes. So RCA's is all it can accept. Thx a million ben

Happy birthday Magna.

Get yourself an Nfusion Solaris or Phoenix and you'll be all set.

Vashthestampede 11-01-2009 09:59 AM

Happy birthday dude!

I love my Panasonic plasma! :) Clean looking tv and the picture is great. I mainly use mine for xbox 360 and dvds. And that's usually once a week, if that. Since I bought it I've watched less tv than I ever have in my life.

Mach929 11-01-2009 10:29 AM

happy b-day. thinking of ugrading myself after xmas. how far are you sitting from your 42"? i was at my neighbor's house last night, he's got a 52 and i was sitting maybe 8 feet away and it was annoyingly big.

miataspeed2005 11-01-2009 10:58 AM

Happy birthday! And I hope you have luck with the panasonic, I've never heard anything good about them.

I have a 47" Toshiba regza and because of the way my room is situated, the couch is like probably 8ft away...love it!
Now the projector screen I had in my 600sqft apartment a few years ago was obnoxious...140" and the couch was probably about 15ft away...:p

These were the only pics I had of it...in this shot its not 140", notice the projector is on the table infront of the couch...I had eventually moved it another 5ft back and made a stand behind the couch which increased the picture quite a bit, as well as made an actual screen rather than just projecting onto the wall...

yeah i've been leaning towards a 46" but everyone tells me i'll be sorry i didn't go bigger. and wow that's a little big for an apartment:laugh:. reminds me of the time when my neighbor at my parents house projected a nascar race on the side of his house

normally about 6ft or so i have it in the top corner about 5 ft above my PC etc. This position rocks and makes the TV vuable from anywhere in the room ie on the couch about 12 ft away from it in the kitchen 16 ft away from it or on the toilet if the door is open about 20 ft away from it lol. To watch TV i just lean back in my chair and enjoy. Amp has 6 inputs lol i just nvr looked or needed all of em yeah for good surprises bens sugestion works like a charm. now to pic up a hdmi or 2 and a few bluerays.

Faeflora 11-01-2009 03:02 PM

I have a panasonic plasma from the same line and I agree that they are fantastic.

I recommend buying your hdmi cables from amazon-- do a search and read the reviews. The junk ones are reviewed accordingly. You do not need expensive hdmi cables.

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 11:01 PM

Ok damn TV isnt playing nice now i hooked the blue ray up with a new phillips hdmi cable, and popped in a disc but it isnt recognizing the signal on the damn TV its like there is no connection or some bullshit. WTF it worked fine with RCA's before i been through all of the menus etc. God i hate it when they try to make shit smarter than it needs to be and it fucks with your use of it. IF you plug the shit in it should work 100000% period, esp when to recap you have a good receiver good braodcast and good cable i hope being only about 3 hrs old. :( im not happy bout this shit to say the least.

jayc72 11-01-2009 11:08 PM

Make sure you are selecting the correct HDMI input on the TV. Make sure the Blue-Ray isn't outputting a mode you TV can't handle (1080p/24).

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 11:12 PM

yep done that.

NA6C-Guy 11-01-2009 11:14 PM

Can't see a reason why it wouldn't work if it is all hooked up correctly. HDMI out on the Blu-Ray, HDMI in on the TV, correct input channel... maybe you are just overlooking a setting somewhere.

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 11:31 PM

ionno i just took the cord and hooked it to my laptop and am running the TV as a mirror of my desktop just fine now, the blueray still does the RCA feed but even if i turn it on and back off etc it doesnt wanna talk through the hdmi for some reason. And yeah i have the hdmi settings turned on. Both units are panasonics you would think this would mean less trouble.

magnamx-5 11-01-2009 11:40 PM

Well after pulling the power and the hdmi and blowing into both the connetor and the output of the Blu ray i proceeded to reassemble and then plug in the Blue ray and this time the fucker worked. So i gues it was some kind of OS issue with viera or something bottom line i cant wait to get a ps3 and ditch this player but for now it seems to work. why it didnt work the other 5 times i tried it before is beyond me imo.

NA6C-Guy 11-02-2009 12:06 AM

Good, so its working. I hate electronics like that. Sometimes they just have a mind of their own and do shit like that for no obvious reason. I've had a Blu-Ray player for about 3 months now, and have yet to even see what a Blu-Ray looks like on my TV. I've had the TV or about 2 years now and outside of the few high def channels I have, and PS3 and 360 games, I haven't seen really good high def yet. Too cheap to go buy another HDMI cable and too lazy to swap the one hooked to my 360...:giggle:
