How the fuck to you guys get anything done?

[/rant]
I'm in the middle of like 4 projects...and I can't get anything done, the car looks like shit, still fucking slow, and I haven't had the time to do fucking anything...

-I'm waiting to actually pick up my MS from my friend with the bimmer (he has been busy putting a new motor in his car to get to work and shit...) so I can't do that project yet, and I still don't know how to wire the fucker in, its driving me nuts...

-my rear bumper is still all sorts of fucked up from my accident and I haven't had time to sand/prime the bumper I got from olderguy. I may new the new ABS plastic, metal support and those fucking rubber braces.

-Only thing I need really is to figure out IC piping, oil drain...water feed/drain...make a wastegate bracket...

-waiting on my hub so I can put my steering wheel and new instrument hood on since mine has a hole where some asshole hit it while the top was down...

-my car sounds like shit...its like a fucking honda with a shitcannon on it....*sigh*

And on top of all this, I just came to the realization I don't have a fucking clue what I am doing...
[/end rant]

Al Hounos 05-11-2007 12:03 AM

fuck

SamS 05-11-2007 12:04 AM

fuck, indeed.

To answer the initial question, I plan ahead and do tons of research online before screwing up my car.

turbopezz 05-11-2007 12:20 AM

jsut try and take your time on doing things that arent needed asap.

for instince my car had a dent in the hood,i left it for 3 months.last sat i sanded the paint and hit with the hammer.2 days ago i laid filler on it ,and yesterday i started sanding.

and i daily drive it.the whole car is primed black ,with a gray primer and pink and blue bondo color.oh and the alumion underneath.
ah fuck my car looks like SHIT AND I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE,IM ABOUT TO MACCO IT ......FUCCCCCCCKKKKKKK

miatamania 05-11-2007 12:21 AM

^ok, well at least mine is all black primer....for now. Still missing a bumper cover though...I had to cut my old one off...

Markp 05-11-2007 12:31 AM

Just like walking one step after another... it gets done.

Mark

akaryrye 05-11-2007 02:37 AM

just keep plugging, i got a ton of projects myself. I have two miatas, I plan to repaint both with the "$40" paint job in black, the motor is out of the turbo car right now for repairs, the interior is all fucked up on the turbo car, the stock car has annoying squeaks and rattles and it rides high ... the list goes on.

GTS Miata 05-11-2007 07:05 AM

you are not alone. I've been building my mega squirt for almost two months now. An hour here, an hour there. (maybe I should have waited for the pnp!)

I have a turbo and other bits laying on the garage floor, a slider mirror project that isn't finished and a "honey do" list around the house from the wife.

It will all get done, eventually.

hustler 05-11-2007 07:59 AM

I just want to go home, so i can work on 2 different cars.

magnamx-5 05-11-2007 08:10 AM

it never ends but we try to finish anyway it is like masturbating when you cant get off sometimes though. trust me there is a light at the end of the tunnel if it is a train or not i can't tell you gues youll just have to wait and see on that one. :D

Braineack 05-11-2007 08:36 AM

one thing at a time and bust it out.

Uncle Arthur 05-11-2007 08:38 AM

Funny as this might sound - it's real easy and don't beat yourself up about it.....

Just don't try to eat the whole elephant all at once.

m2cupcar 05-11-2007 08:45 AM

It took me two years. The car sat for a year first, then I started working on it and a year later it was on the ground. Then 3 months later the cylinder wall cracked. 3 months after that it was back on the ground with another engine. So yeah, time is all it takes. Or money... you could always pay somebody to do it all.

Philip 05-11-2007 09:21 AM

unfinished projects bug me to I complete them :dunno:

y8s 05-11-2007 11:27 AM

schedule your time like this:

after work/school: come home, go straight to working on car. come in at 10:30pm or when neighbors complain.
do this x5 per week.

weekends: get up at 9, get some coffee, work on car til 6. get food and beers and dont show people your fingernails (dirty as F).

In about a month you'll have: no life, no projects left, a very needy gf.

Joe Perez 05-11-2007 11:52 AM

Order of operations:

1- Purchase Miata.

2- Begin tinkering with Miata.

3- Get tired of always having to ensure Miata is back in running condition by Monday morning.

4- Purchase motorcycle to alleviate pressure of #3.

5- Spend the next year and a half tinkering with Miata at leisurely pace, taking time to post extravagent writeups in MiataTurbo.net from time to time.

6- Run out of things to modify. Declare Miata to be "finished". Realize that since you've spent the past year and a half doing little else that tinkering with car that you have no life.

7- Start looking for another Miata. :bigtu:

nester 05-11-2007 01:39 PM

I need more time in the day..

PaKMaN 05-11-2007 01:43 PM

I'm going to spend the weekend installing everything on mine

magnamx-5 05-11-2007 01:48 PM

Im pulling hooha's motor tomorrow :yippee: im getting good at doing that for some reason.

Exhondaman 05-11-2007 01:59 PM

Haha, you guys are hilarious!

When I first read the title I thought it meant, "How the fuck do you guys get anything done at WORK since youre always posting on here?",lol. Yes, I'm an addict for info.

Back on subject, I ALWAYS spend the first 10-15 minutes of my day-off staring at parts scattered around my garage with a cigarette in my hand, scratching my balls, thinking, "Where the FUCK do I begin???"

I usually just pick one that I feel like doing and do it until it's finished. Word of advice, do not ever, EVER, pick the projects based on whether or not you can get it done in a day or not (unless you NEED the car to run the next day)What you end up with is getting a bunch of small half-day projects done, but the bigger ones get left in the back-burner because you always think up some OTHER small project because you're too lazy to tackle the big projects, haha.

Mach929 05-11-2007 06:38 PM

1.i can't imagine having a project vehicle as my only transportation, have backups
2. take your time and work smart, things seem to get done faster.
3. having the girlfriend bitching at you while you're under the car doesn't help, but trying to to get things done before she starts bitching is a good motivator.

turbopezz 05-11-2007 07:11 PM

^^^ y8s & joe perez that sounds like my life.HAHA.

IVE BEEN thinking about getting a bike as a daily.

Be thankful your garage doesn't look like this...

miatamania 05-12-2007 06:07 PM

I need a daily driver...life would be easier...

the g/f doesn't bitch that much about it, I'm pleasantly surprised all the time.

ghettoracer 05-13-2007 10:56 AM

haha, i have 4 project cars myself... it's kind of hard to stay focused at times... just gotta have discipline and stick with it...

Pitlab77 05-13-2007 11:08 AM

I am working full time as a teacher, taking grad school courses 1 night a week, trying to balance in a GF, autoX, jogging, and trumpet.

i never have free time

ghettoracer 05-13-2007 11:53 AM

as to the other question, I am taking education courses. Although I think this next class I take will be the last one for a good while as the Cohort program for a master in education administration wont start again till next year :td:

My GF just got accepted to grad school (master of social work) and she is trying to get into the masters of social work and law :)

cjernigan 05-13-2007 05:39 PM

Man i'm glad I took my last final on May 4th. I now have time to breath.

Uncle Arthur 05-13-2007 06:18 PM

Another REALLy good way to get stuff done is to hold what we here down under call a 'dodgy day'.....

Invite a whole bunch of local miataphiles round to your place, with each of them having identified their 'project'.

Provide beer and meat for barbequeing - our local dodgy food of choice is deep fried buffalo wings dipped in hot sauce and blue cheese dressing.

Start early, and you'll be amazed at how much shit you get done with a bunch of mates around to help and be helped.

For example, recent dodgy days here have achieved (only the big stuff listed):

2 x engine replacement
2 x clutch and gearbox replacement
3 x timing belt and waterpump
??? x full fluid change
1 x repainted front bar

Between our crew of dodgy backyard mechanics, we could practically now strip, rebuild and repaint an MX5 in a weekend. :D

miatamania 05-13-2007 11:31 PM

Jeeze man, I'm thinking about staying in school after I get my education degree (History, concentration in Secondary Ed) and going to grad school for History....I'll still get a nice bonus, but have more options if teaching isn't the best match for me...but I kinda thought it might be.

Sounds great! I always end up working on my stuff by myself, which is boring, and annoying as hell. You end up under the car with a 17mm socket, when what you actually need is a 14. so you have to crawl out, grab the right socket, get back under. Oops, I need an extension, or now I need a wrench. Crawl back out. Etc, etc, etc. I find I can get projects done in half the time with someone to just hand me tools. lol.

dude I worked 30+ hours a week, took 12-15 credit hours, and flew 9 hours a week minimum, and I STILL had more time in college than I do now, it's unbelieveable.

Isn't that what a gf is for? My wife won't let me have one:sadwavey: And if she did, she probably wouldn't let her in the house to wash up and use the bathroom:nono:

but isn't that what you really want? a dirty girlfriend? ;)

y8s 05-14-2007 10:07 AM

my gf comes out to the garage periodically while I'm working on my car.... she doesn't speed things up. she'll stand over me wearing a short skirt and say I look hot all dirty. it's kinda distracting. but she does make me sammiches so that saves some time.

My wife comes out and hands me random shit I don't need and didn't ask for. When I ignore her she jabs it right in my eye and asks "are you sure?". I just pray she will get bored and go inside.

miatamania 05-14-2007 04:25 PM

lmao, my if I can get my GF outside she is good about giving me the right tool.
