Default Seymour Duncan SH-6 is installed!

Recently traded my Ibanez RGT42DXFM for an ESP EC-256. Decided that I really dislike stock pick-ups that come on the ESP so I've opted for a Seymour Duncan SH-6 on the bridge instead.

Are active pickups that much more boss than passive?

I didn't want to go with an active pickup. SH-6 sounds great for a passive

Active is bauce for bass (The Bartolini units rule). Sterile sounding on guitars unless you are after an exclusively metal tone where your low e is tuned to"r".

I have had an SH-6 in my LP for YEARS, and it sounds great! I paired mine with the sh-6 at the bridge, and a SH-2 at the neck

wow, dug that pic from an old *** album from junior year in highschool, yet I still have every single of them, plus two added since, a jaguar and telecaster.

I mostly play metal and punk so I don't use my neck pickup at all. I was thinking about gutting all of the electronics and just wiring a single volume **** and blanking the neck pickup.

I have one bass that is passive only because it's a lot older than I am and it's more of an investment. My other three are all active. Couldn't live without it!

lol i read the title and i was like hmmm seymour duncan... that sounds familiar. before the page loaded i remembered why lol. I have a guitar i put an alnico in for the neck and bridge is an invader. the invader is pretty invasive as the name would indicate. I haven't played in a while. how is the sh-6? I'm a gibson guy normally so im partial to the alnico variations 490r and 498t since.

SH-6 is great so far! Just came back from my friend's place where we jammed for a bit. The tone is very crisp and you can hear every single string perfectly. It also packs a LOT of punch, even on shitty amp.

I'm a bass guy and I <3 active on a good bass. I only have one bass though... an 89' Fender Lyte. This thing can shake any place any time....serious low-end if called for.

Previous bass to that was some old Washburn (I didn't know **** about bass guitars when I had it). Did some digging and it was an old XS4.... EXACTLY likt this one. Had active pickups too.

Sometime I had a "new" Ibanez SG405 5-string..

And I'm only posting this because Urban's shot of the Ibanez started my wheels turning about all the instruments I have had years ago..

And this was my Ibanez RG of some sort...made late 90's, had the tremolo bridge and was purple...looked exactly like this one (RG570)

I also have a MIM LPB Strat from 96' and a really nice Takamine EG acu/ele guitar from ~99'

What do you have?? I love this stuff. I used to manage a vintage guitar store. Cowtown Guitars - it's now in Vegas only but the original store was here in central Ohio.

That's awesome! Sorry, I didn't know this thread got bumped.

The vintage bass I have is a 1981 Matsumoku Vantage VS600B. Traditional Precision style split single coil pickup, 3 point bridge, vol/tone. The body is symmetrical with a spalted maple center and walnut wings. Traditional maple neck and rosewood board. I picked it up from a session player in New York who was having a "divorce liquidation". I can still remember the title, SHE IS NOT GETTING THESE.

He, literally, gave away some of his best instruments. However, out of the 20 or so basses that we was selling, only a few were for outright sale and new ownership. The rest were being sold to people for 50% trade value and then they would sell them back to him for 10 dollars more than they paid after the divorce. The TalkBass community is tight, a lot like the MT community, just 1000 times larger.

I was one of the lucky ones who had my paypal ready and I was able to score this bass about 3 minutes after it was posted for sale. I had it shipped disassembled for safety reasons and because parts are nonexistent.

I am planning on selling it, though, I should be able to get double what I paid. My main concern is that it goes to someone who will treat it as well as I have. I'm 99% sure it is the nicest V600B is the country. I would bet money on it. It is absoutely flawless.

My other current basses are my 2006 Yamaha BB614 in natural, Spector Legend 6 string in buginga and Cort AB5 in red stain natural strung w/ Chromes (for jazz).

Everything is on the chopping block now, minus the Yamaha. I'm in the market for a Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string or a Thumb NT 5 or hell, maybe even Spector ReBop 5 if I can find one that isn't butt ugly. Getting back into the heavy music so I need something with a tight B string and modern electronics. I love my Spector 6 string but, I can't get adjusted to the 16.5mm string spacing. I know you guitar guys are probably laughing your asses off at this but it's a big issue for me, haha. I play a lot of Mudvayne so I need to be able to dig under the string for popping....so the Spector must go.

What's it worth? Someone was selling one for $250 a few years ago.

Funny that you posted that. I bought mine from him (or one of the guy's he sold it to). I wouldn't be surprised if that was the same one in the 3 year old FS thread, haha. Bass guitars like this tend to get around a lot when things need to be pushed for new gear.

The last one I saw for sale on there was sold at 240~ish and it was in very rough shape; it was a player bass. It really depends on what someone is willing to pay at the time, but I think I could start my sale at 500 and have it sold in a matter of hours or mark it up a bit and see what kind of offers I can get. I'm honestly thinking about buying a pelican case and stowing it away for a few decades because I haven't been able to find another one in this condition. As far as a value....it's hard to say. There aren't a lot to compare side by side.

When my 6 string and 5 string sell, I'm going to start working on a Musicman Stingray/OLP for some heavier music. I'm gonna go ricer on it with a Status Graphite carbon fiber neck, Hipshot keys, carbon fiber pickguard, plastic ***** and an aluminum bridge. I need something under 9lbs again because I'm a *****.

So when are we going to get some clips of MT netters playing their guitars?

Hell if we can wrangle up some talented musicians, throw down some tracks to a song and put em together, we could have a pretty fun project.

I'd be down for that.

Here's an old vid of me trying to get my camera mount working. Needs headphones because I recorded with the mic, it came out well so I put it up on youtube a few years back for ***** and giggles.

Simple octave slap&pop groove.

and a shot of my Yamaha BB614. I love it, but I'm swapping all the stock, chrome hardware to lightweight, black hardware.

dat grain....
