How much do I sell my engine/tranny for? (real question)

I have a 1.6L 125K engine/tranny with new clutch/throwout/seals that I have posted on CL for $600. I figured that was a high price and was just giving some room to negotiate. I have a guy wanting to buy it (or perhaps just the tranny). I looked up some junkyard prices (where you never know if they even work) and I was amazed at how high they were. Like $500 for engine and $500 for tranny. I thought $600 was high for the pair - was I wrong? I told the guy $300 for the tranny and said that he would be stupid not to change the clutch before putting it in so I would include that too. Am I out of line? What would be a reasonable price to ask for this stuff?

Oh, the engine still has all the accessories on it but I will probably pull the AC compressor for myself.

300 for the tranny is a little high unless its an NB tranny
400 for the long block is what they go for around here.
I'd say 500-600 is good all around for you and him.

I consider the tranny $100 worthy. The motor would be $500ish, so I think together you've priced them right.

I agree 100 tranny, 500 motor. Thats a fair price.

$500 seems like an awful lot for a 1.6 to me. I was thinking maybe $300-400 for the motor. $100-150 seems reasonable for the tranny.

I say 450 tops for the lot
