A house I'm buying has a pool table in it, and the sellers are asking $500 for it, else they come take it away.

Should I lowball? It's in excellent condition.

If it is a slate bed it's worth $500 easy. It's already in place. If you pay someone to set one up it's about $300 to deliver, assemble and level with felt. If it's not slate, let them take it unless you can get it for $250 and it rolls well.

No slate no care. Crawl under it and look for any mfg. Movers/sellers like to leave buisness cars under them too. If ity's a major brand, it'll be worth $500 all day long.

I picked up a Brunswick table for $500. The guy who came to move it knew exactly what it was and even knew the guy (previous mover) who left his car under the table...said they guy did work back in the 80's or something. Turns out the table is like 50 years old and is in excellent shape.

Weight and time to disassemble and reassemble. They way they level and wax over the assembly holes is pretty cool.

Interesting. Had no idea. I would've assumed they are heavy but fairly straightforward to move. $400 looks to be on the low side if they have to get it disassembled, moved, reassembled (probably with new felt) and the leveled.

Offer $250 for it. If they balk at that, then ask them directly how much it'll cost to move and go from there.


EDIT: Also, if I ever buy a house with an appropriately-sized parlor, we're getting a ping-pong table.
