Default How obnoxious would a ewg dump be..?

Anyone have any good sound clips of a miata running a ewg dump? With my hood vent sitting just about directly above the wg, I've been thinking about it....maybe its cool...maybe its crazy

Its really not that bad
I mean its loud, but not all the time, so who cares.
Its cool be able to unleash unholy turbo sounds whenever you want

On a completely unrelated subject...when did you paint the car? you should've painted the black rockers white to blend with the rear flares better, other than that I think it look much better.

Lol...I've been painting things one section at a time....rockers are next. That has to be the number one flaw everyone is pointing out

Damn I fail....oh well. Back on topic now, lol.

I think dumping it there would get pretty obnoxious if you drive her on a daily basis especially long distances or you live in a richy-rich neighborhood it may cause you issues, otherwise if you just drive it on occasion and don't give a **** about being yelled at go for it.

I didn't mind my VTA wastegate one bit. I assume most of our cars have loud exhaust systems and howling intakes to begin with. I couldn't hear my external WG over the noise of everything else by any means. If your car is loud it will just add another level of noise to it not necessarily make it louder.

I loved your nb....had it been for sale when I was looking I'd be driving it right now. You have any old video or pictures of it?

Your probably right....my car is quite loud as it is already between the greddy rs bov and 3" turbo back. I let my buddy drive it the other day and I was amazed at how far away I could hear him comin

Drove an external dump DSM all the time. Loved it. Its not making any extra noise unless you hit full boost, so it is easy to keep it under controll in residential areas. Never had a problem.

Had one on my Forester XT and it was annoying, obnoxious and loud. <old man mode> But I was 39 at the time and realized having a douchey sounding car was for teenagers. </old man mode>.

What you guys think a ricey Honda with a fartcan exhaust sounds like is what I think an EWG dump sounds like. It's evolution.

Do it! You'll get hard ons with full boost. I wouldn't dump it out the vent tho as it will make your vent all black, dump it to the ground. BTW I need to see what your vent looks like in person cause I'm 99% sure I'm stealing your idea, sorry.

It sounds like a car with a missing exhaust manifold every time you boost. It gets annoying immediately and is not an attractive sound. It made me not want to get in boost every time I drove a car with an open dump. It is loud, raspy and unattractive, not deep and powerful. If you drive a N/A Miata with only an exhaust manifold and no headpipe it is exactly the same sound because it is the same sound. It doesn't go whoosh like a turbo's compressor, whistle like a turbine or anything nice like that. In fact, it drowns out all of the nice turbo sounds.

how long did it take you to polish your hood? How long until you have to repolish it?

Awesomeness for an EWG. This is what I did, I vented it straight down right where my DP made the turn to head toward the back of the car:

RRE Exhaust System Parts

Mine sounded vaguely like a v-twin motorcycle because my collector was biased pretty bad toward cylinder 4. So you heard individual pulses to an extent. Not pretty, but I did not mind. I generally dont care what the car sunds like at WOT as long as it flows well and is (mostly) quiet under normal conditions.

I'm all for an ewg dump, but check out the sound limits where you run your car. I had an issue last year at a track so I just reverted mine back last week so I'm not limited to when I can run the car.

The hood took the better part of 5 hours. The vent took almost 3 after I used paint stripper...As far as how long til a repolish is required, that probably depends on if I get caught in the rain or how often I wash it. I sprayed the car down the other day and did'nt wipe it off....it acted just like chrome leaving water spots and stuff. Its probably going to require regular maintenance to keep it looking good.

I wish I new someone local that had a tig welder....I'd do it just to try, but I'd like to have an easy way to change it back should it be too crazy. I was thinking about having it dump down toward the ground, but how narly would it be to have it pointed out the vent (maybe I'd even get the occasional flame shooting out ) Actually, thats the only part that makes me second guess having it dump there. I could care less if it discolors the vent or hood, but the dump tube would only be about 6" long, so I can only imagine what will happen (unburned fuel, flames, etc)

Actually thus far I only run the car on the street....I guess that may be something to take into consideration. You have any old clips of your setup?
