gearhead_318 08-27-2011 10:13 PM

This has been a bad week for Braineack, first the (mini) earthquake and now this. I don't know if he'll ever recover. Maybe Faeflora will drown or something.

Prospero 08-27-2011 10:14 PM

So far, Ashburn VA is holding steady :) No big issues yet; but it's getting a bit more serious out there now than it was a few hours ago. Fully expect to be under battery power in the next hour or 2. It's blowing decent but not fierce :)

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts!!!

Cheers,
Prospero

localtech 08-27-2011 10:15 PM

Cool so far. Hang in there guys.

raining in northeast pa; i doubt we're going to get hit very hard at all.

shuiend 08-27-2011 10:28 PM

I was just out driving around in Northern VA and it was not to bad. We will see how the rest of the night goes.

Joe Perez 08-27-2011 10:31 PM

I hear that they shut down the entire NYC subway system.

Is that a first? I honestly don't remember whether the trains were still running (apart from the lines directly affected by WTC station) after 9/11.

phillyb 08-27-2011 10:32 PM

fairway is closed.
that's probably a first.
first time hospitals have been evacuated

Joe Perez 08-27-2011 10:42 PM

On the plus side, the 1010WINS stream is still working. I really hope I don't get any phone calls tonight...

FRT_Fun 08-27-2011 10:45 PM

The radar image looks pretty intense in PA and Maryland right now.

everyone up here is a bunch of pussys....

every store is out of food and flashlights and such.. i just was out doing a midnight run with a bunch of friends and it was awesome being the only people on the roads... the beaches look normal.. i bet if this storm went up the gulf the florida people wouldnt even have flinched at it.

i read earlier about the so called deaths that this storm has caused... one was a guy having a heart attack while boarding up his house. really? how is that the hurricanes fault

flooding is about the only thing we have to worry about

Bryce 08-28-2011 02:04 AM

I was always under the assumption that California would be the first state to break off from the US and sink into the ocean.

Guess I was wrong.

I don't leave unless it's a category 4 or higher.

LOL, its a cat 1 storm.

Vashthestampede 08-28-2011 10:12 AM

The only issue we're having here is the flooding. I figure by the time all this rain is over and done with that we'll be trapped up here for a day or two.

I've been saying all along that this wasn't going to be anything crazy, but the tv/radio blasted out enough warnings and advisories that people scrambled to the stores like it was the end of the world.

My gf was up with the dogs most of the night while I was sleeping through it all. This morning its been pretty windy and the heavy rain is steady as can be, but nothing like a hurricane on the coast. We just have to keep an eye on falling trees, seeing that our back yard has about 1000 of them going up the mountain side.

TurboTim 08-28-2011 11:14 AM

I can understand and appreciate the flood issue if you live near a body of water. But how many of us do? How many blizzards do we have each year? That white stuff doesn't just stop and disappear after a few hours. If the powerlines fall down, those workers take forever to redo them in the snow and ice. Monday's going to be sunny, warm, and dry. The wind is an issue if your asshloe neighbor keeps his portable basketball hoop in his driveway, 10 feet from your car. But that didn't even blow around.

Lame. Paul's wedding was nice however.

Flood wise our biggest problem is the still river. It crosses so many main intersections that when it floods it fucks up everything around here.

I'm not talking "take your home away" flood waters or anything, I just mean its going to be a bitch getting around the next couple days if anything.

shuiend 08-28-2011 12:07 PM

Braineack is without internet or TV. How will he survive?

I am about to go out for some nice top down driving. Right now it feels amazing out in NoVA.

None. I guess $500 worth of poison does the job.

I have weapons ready for the remaining stragglers, if any should try and stick around.

triple88a 08-28-2011 02:58 PM

Look at the bright side, at least you get a free carwash.

I think he said he's allergic to cats. I suggested a small dog that'd go after the rats/mice.

Yeah really. So much noise over flooding with a Cat 1 or 2. Try living on the Gulf Coast.

http://www.jeffsweather.com/archives...cane%20Ike.jpg
4 states and 2 countries all the same time.

I was out running 5 hours before that hit.

I liked it better when they were all female names...made more since then. The male names fuck with my mind...I want to stay and fight them instead of evacuating. Before it was just: "Fuck this shit, we'll be in Dallas before that bitch gets here."

olderguy 08-31-2011 12:07 PM

As I posted on another site:

No power loss, no trees down, no flooding, but there is half of a leaf on the back deck which we will try to match up to a plant later.

Now I need to put the generator away, unboard the windows, and let the air out of the life raft.

People less than a mile away were totally wiped out by the flooding:cry:

240_to_miata 08-31-2011 12:16 PM

Still no power at my parents house. I got power at my apartment Monday evening.

Preluding 08-31-2011 12:16 PM

Everything was shut down here... for no reason.

Bunch of leaves blew off the trees and the power was out for 36hrs, but only because our power company sent all our crews to NY to help there so we had no one left.

Braineack 08-31-2011 12:28 PM

could use this for so many metaphors.

thirdgen 09-02-2011 03:11 AM

My parents live on the other side of my "hill". It takes about 15-20 minutes to get there, some people who are "flat-landers" would call it a mountain. They're out of power until Monday.

pusha 09-02-2011 03:23 AM

He is at Burning Man. He left before the storm even hit MD. Last I heard from him was that he was picking up a cheap tent, some nuts, and 12 gallons of water for the event. So he might die at Burning Man.

seems natural disasters only occur when I leave the country.

i missed the multi-blizzard storm
i missed the earthquake
i missed the hurricane

so next time I leave town, buy more TP, bread, and milk as a preventative measure
