How tall are you Miata guys?

I'm 6'1" and 210lbs, never driven a Miata yet, mine hasn't run until just recently. But I've sat in it w/ the top up and my head hits the ceiling.

I don't care much, not planning to drive it in rain anyway. Just wondering if some other guys here are on the taller side.

Sat in the '09 Model at the AutoShow and the rep. put the hardtop up while I was in the car and I nearly broke my neck.

I'm curious to see how/if I like driving it or not.

p51hellfire 03-07-2009 06:45 PM

well I'm 6' and I have plenty of room... in my NA, I assume with the stock seat right?

ray_sir_6 03-07-2009 06:47 PM

6'4", had to remove the armrest.

nicacus 03-07-2009 06:50 PM

I'm 5'10
Head only hits when I go over jumps on the freeway.

Bond 03-07-2009 06:57 PM

6'2. Foamectomy FTW

Joe Perez 03-07-2009 07:16 PM

6'1", about 200 lbs, and I wear size 14 boots (Timberland Titans, to be exact.) Interior is 100% stock and unmodified. I run the seat forward a bit and then lean the back as far as it'll go. My legs tough the wheel, but my head clears both the softtop and the hardtop with an inch or so to spare. Fits like a glove.

that's a lot of boot to fit under there. One of my best friends is 6'5" with a size 18 shoe and his feet are too damn big to drive my car, among other cars.

i'm 6' 214. i sit plenty low with my sparcos but could use more room entering/exiting, may eventually get a d-cut wheel.

18psi 03-07-2009 07:36 PM

5'9......no problems fitting in the car at all, even with the big ass bucket seats I have in it.

james399 03-07-2009 07:47 PM

6' 210, bolted my sparco to the floor, can actually see the signals when it changes color now without having to lean forward...

kotomile 03-07-2009 07:49 PM

5'11"

foamectomy, back and seat
smaller wheel
no armrests

Qckslvr 03-07-2009 07:53 PM

1990 NA, 6'2" 250 lbs, 100% stock interior and I fit fine with or without hard top.

Now when I auto crossed there was no way I could fit in the car with helmet and top up. There were a few auto crosses in foul wheather that my previous Miata got an interior washing.

ZX-Tex 03-07-2009 08:44 PM

5'7" Size 10 shoes, perfect fit for me.

messiahx 03-07-2009 10:20 PM

6'1" and 160lbs here. I slouch most of the time when the top is up for fear of hitting my head on bumps. I'd like to get a smaller steering wheel so my knees hitting the wheel don't mess up my heel-toe shifts (though this may also be because I suck at them), but other than that, it's the most comfortable ride I've ever been in.

Actually, it works out pretty well. To heel-toe, I put the ball of my foot on the brake pedal just off-center, and roll right so that the outer edge of my boot operates the gas pedal. Sounds awkward, but it's amazingly easy and very controllable.

The only problem I have is that the cuff of my left pants leg tends to catch on the hood release handle every now and then.

magnamx-5 03-08-2009 12:03 AM

5 11 225 lbs solid and i fit perfect, when i sit in it with my dad our shoulders do touch though :hustler:

kotomile 03-08-2009 02:04 PM

I should have also mentioned that I use that seatbelt lock from FM. (I forget what it's called). It's great - holds you into the seat, which is great for a foamectomied seat since I used to get a little back pain if I drove for awhile before. It also (this is the part relevant to this thread) holds you against the seat over bumps, which makes the car feel much smoother and more comfortable. I used to get thrown up toward the roof over some of the bumps in GA, but after I installed that I stayed with the car. IIRC it's only $40 and almost a must if you're a bigger guy afraid of hitting the roof.

I'm not understanding how this cures the back pain but i'm in...foamectomy = back pain.

There are some big boys in here. I'm 6', 200lbs and fit mostly ok and with the foamectomy my head isn't in direct proximity of the roll bar. I needmore space though. Im not sure if I need a seat bolted to the floor. How much lower does that put you? It seems like thats about the only other option.

disturbedfan121 03-08-2009 02:37 PM

5'9'' ~215lbs fit in my sparco sprint just fine.

icantthink4155 03-08-2009 03:08 PM

Im 6' 230(approx) and I do what Joe does, seat up a notch or two, leaned back. I love the position super comfortable IMO. Leg does start to get a little cramped on long trips but nothing terrible.

driverdog 03-08-2009 03:46 PM

6'5" and 250 lbs. Had to take the armrest out when I had the stock steering wheel and seat in but have since put in a Momo wheel. Had to also go with aftermarket seats to get away from the roof, so went with Ultra shield Rally Sport/ 17" accross and 20 deg. seatback, and mounted to stock rails. This is an excellent fit but I would not recommend for long trips.

I found that I can drive the car with no seat in it, but then it is too roomy.

proughj 03-08-2009 04:35 PM

im 6'2 140lbs stock or sparco seat with momo 320mm wheel i fit with hella head and leg room

Sleeper_MX5 03-08-2009 05:08 PM

i'm only 5'3 ...i'm the shortest guy on this forum...

I helps because it pulls your hips tight against the seat. It holds you more upright, which sounds uncomfortable but I assure you it isn't.

NA6C-Guy 03-08-2009 06:36 PM

Im about 6'' and 175ish, sort of broad shoulders, 34'' waist, 14 shoe... I fit just fine. Plenty of room everywhere.

viperormiata 03-08-2009 06:57 PM

LOL, I am 6ft and used to be 325, and fit with the stock interior perfect. Even used to autocross like that just fine.

My car has been off the road for the past 8 months and over the last year i've lost over 70#s, so i'm really anxious to see how I fit now

dude you are about my size.... bolt the seat to the floor it will change the way your car feels, and also, you can use it as an excuse to not let people drive your car... i.e. "sure you can drive it... oh wait, that might not work, my seat is set up for me, and it's bolted to the floor, so you can't adjust it...":)

go buy some steel plate at home depot, drill some holes in it, attache the seat to it, and bolt it to the floor, if you can, try and angle the front of the seat up more... (personally i used sparco seat mounts and i bolted that directly to some steel plates, and bolted that directly to the floor, the front is as high as i could make it, and the back bottom of the seat is touching the carpet.) comfy as hell with the angle, like i said, i can see signal change without having lean forward, and putting the seat at the angle, the steering wheel isn't in my chest....

if you are in the los angeles area, you can come by and try out my seat... lol...

samnavy 03-08-2009 10:20 PM

I'll be the asshole and tell you to search. Do a title search in all open forums for the word "tall" both here and at m.net. Lotsa people in your position. This question is asked often and the discussion is exactly the same in every thread. "Am I too tall for a Miata"... blah blah blah. No, you're not, but the stock seat doesn't help you any. There are a dozen ways to get you more room without going to an aftermarket seat. Just do a title search for the word tall... every thread on the subject has the exact same list of solutions.

I'm 6'4"... if you want to know how I conquered the Miata cockpit, do a username and keyword search for SAMNAVY and "seat".

Unsure if any of this applies to the NC... probably none, but you could ask in the NC forum at m.net what those guys do. Probably nobody on this forum could tell you anything specific about the NC cockpit and making it bigger.

mr_mazda329 03-09-2009 12:31 AM

5'7'', 140lbs. No problems here.

kenzo42 03-09-2009 12:38 AM

what kind of rollbar are you guys using? i'm thinking of picking up the hardcore bar, but i'm afraid it will be to close to my head... i have a bucket seat, with sparco side mounts bolted directly to my floor.. the back of the bucket touches the carpet, but it's more angled to help with posture etc...

any suggestions on a bar?

I'm 5'10" and I have plenty of room. Here is my friend in my Miata. He is just shy of 7'

NA6C-Guy 03-20-2009 04:33 AM

I need to get Charles Barkley to sit in my car for a picture, see what a truely large guy looks like in a tiny tic tac car. Not that tall, just big framed. Probably wouldn't look that goofy ^ lol

Thats how I looked in the stock Miata prior to putting in the ultrashield seats and smaller steering wheel/removal of the armrest.
By doing the above changes, the fit (once in) is really good. It is still challenging to get in and out, especially with the top up.
Some compromises are worth it to be able to enjoy driving a Miata!

Faeflora 03-20-2009 10:07 AM

6' 170. I fit.

mazspeed 03-21-2009 03:05 PM

5'9ish 160lbs. Mazdaspeed sport seats. Lost quite a bit of room.

kww502 04-15-2009 12:39 AM

6'2 220lbs cut bottom of cushion out of seat and fit fine even with Hr springs and heavy Rx7 rear end dont hit the convertible top.

UrbanSoot 04-15-2009 02:31 AM

i know a guy whos almost 7' and weights like 350lbs at least. i should have him sit in my miata with full cage and hard top in a race seat that is barely enough for me (5' 11" / 120lbs) :)

that would be hilarious! and hes probably going to be at dyno place when im going to be tuning my car after its done. i should definitely bring camera to dyno!!

swingdancr 04-15-2009 09:39 AM

6'2" and 215

Stock seats in an 04 (for now)
