I thought hydrogen cracking took a lot of electricity? With Meth you get reduced IATs and more ponies, does hydrogen have the same effect?

It says 60/40 blend, but I'd love to see someone substantiate that.

DAMMIT! Google is killing XMPP support for Google Voice in May of 2014. Time to find another VOIP provider.

I would add, I have heard of big diesels running this and similar solutions for improved fuel economy and power.

(rolls eyes)

Yes, you can find forums on which people will claim pretty much anything. Demand proof. or failing that, some kind of reasonably plausible scientific explanation.

In the grand scheme of the energy lifecycle, water is a waste product. It's what's left over after you extract all of the energy from free hydrogen by burning it in the presence of oxygen. It is the lowest possible energy state. Water is the exhaust gas emitted by the space shuttle, as well as by cars that run actual pure hydrogen through either a fuel cell or a conventional piston engine. Water has nothing useful left to give, energy-wise.

This is like saying "I'm going to take the exhaust fumes from a gasoline engine, split the carbon from the CO and CO2, combine it with hydrogen, and form synthetic hydrocarbons to use as a motor fuel." And that actually does work. You can synthesize gasoline from exhaust fumes. But it is horribly inefficient to do this, which is why nobody does it outside of research labs, and then only for amusement. You have to put way more energy in than you'll ever get out, and if you're going to go to the trouble of generating that energy in the first place, you're better off using it directly.

The same goes here. People who claim to get any kind of efficiency boost from HHO which is greater than the energy consumed in liberating the hydrogen are just plain wrong. Yes, even the ones who say "Oh, the hydrogen isn't burned directly, it merely enhances the efficiency of the gasoline / diesel combustion." Wrong, wrong wrong. Not only would this violate the laws of thermodynamics, but frankly, if it worked, people would be doing it.

And I don't mean some random hippies in their shed, or Bob of Bob & Cletus' Trucking and Hauling. I mean people like UPS, Penske, FedEx, Yellow Freight, CSX, Carnival Cruise Lines, Amtrak, Delta Air Lines, the US Navy, Hendrick Motorsports, the California Highway Patrol, and so on. Companies that purchase gasoline and diesel fuel by the millions of gallons per year, employ lots of smart people to make intelligent decisions about improving efficiency, and which would happily put an entire traincar of adorable, fluffy little kittens to death by drowning in exchange for a 0.1% across-the-board improvement in fuel economy.

There is no proof.

There is no scientific evidence.

There isn't even a plausible theory.

This snake oil has been around since the 70s, and it's no less of a crock of **** today than it was then.

The US military wouldnt dare use it...

...everything has been declared diesel that accepts DoD wide specific fuels; and the cost to convert everything to a new fuel type would be way to inefficient "to the mission".

but okay. lol thats all I wanted to know.

About to finish the last few episodes of No Reservations... then what will I do?

I'll feel like Forrest Gump when he stopped running.

Whoever was in charge of the audio track levels in the remastered version of Star Trek The Undiscovered Country, is an idiot. At a suitable level for everything else, the dialogue is so low and muffled I literally can't make out anything anybody is saying. By the time I turn it up enough to hear what they are saying, I'm blowing the windows out of the house. Can't even watch it.

Every tv made since the 90's should have some form of vocal/speech booster, if not an equalizer. May not be ideal but it's better than audible speech and the rest loud as ****.

Ugh... I am so annoyed by the present trend in film mastering to seek the greatest possible dynamic range in everything. Not all of us live at the Mann's Chinese Theater. Some of us have downstairs neighbors...

Indeed, most modern TVs and home theater receivers will have some kind of adaptive DRC (dynamic range compression), though it's rarely labeled as anything so simple. It might be called "night mode" or "dynamic volume" or something trademarkable.

Expanding Windows files (26%) ...

Also, I just realized that my media server PC has 3GB of RAM in it. How the heck did I wind up with an odd number of DIMMs?

Or, if you're running a center channel, boost the relative level of that channel. Typically most of the dialogue will be on that channel.

I had to do that last night. I was trying to keep the volume reasonably low. I had to boost the center channel to +10 on a 15 scale compared to the fronts at a +2. Sounded wrong, and was still tough to hear dialogue. This was another movie, not Star Trek. Still sucked. WTF! What happened to movies!? I'm with Joe, chill with the dynamic range. It's not necessary for home releases. Very few people can all the time take advantage of such an audio track.

Well, that t00k an ann0yingly l0ng time.

The 486DX (aka 9 year 0ld Pentium4-55o) is n0w running Win7-32. That part was actually simple; t0 my amazement, driver supp0rt was bang-0n f0r everything in this aging-but-vibrant PC. Literally the 0nly driver I had t0 manually l0ad was f0r the vide0 card which, get this, is a M0DERN device that I just b0ught this past year (I wanted an HDMI 0utput t0 g0 with my shitty new 6o" LED TV that d0esn't supp0rt anal0g c0mp0nent vide0- dunna w0rry lad, is she still a chep0la unit. Wunnit but $25.)

The drive p0pped right up at its full 3.63TB capacity under GUID, and I actually get t0 use AHCI f0r a change, which never w0rked under XP 0n this machine.

Figuring 0ut h0w t0 get Win7 t0 share a f0lder with my WDLive set-t0p b0x, which was a n0-brainer under XP, was a ******* nightmare. I dunna wanna ussa glitzy integrated-lifestyle-media-sharing BS, I just wanna br0wse da' ******* filesystem. First time I've ever had t0 dig d0wn and figure 0ut where they hid the W0rkgr0up c0nfig in 7.

Turns 0ut it's in the same ******* place it's always been. They m0ved everything EXCEPT that 0ne parameter.

(blawn...)

S0 this machine still has s0me legs. Als0 t00k the 0pp0rtunity t0 replace the b00t drive (a 3oo GB Seagate) with the 4oGB Intel SSD that I pulled 0utta da big rig last year when I upgraded its b00t drive t0 a 12o GB Kingst0n. N0w I have a c0uple 0f surplus hard drives (3oo and 2,ooo GB) that I d0n't kn0w what t0 d0 with. Mebbe I get me 0nna dem fancy external d0ckey-thingies? Mebbe I use 0nna dese as the w0rk lapt0p's dedicated backup drive, s0 I can re-liberate the eeetsy-beetsy 25o GB WD p0cketdrive and actually be able t0 use it as, well, as a p0cketdrive again. (It was never supp0sed t0 be a dedicated backup drive, it just w0rked 0ut that way.)

yEs, I hEaR tHe AnGeLs CaLlInG!

Holy fuckballs!

I just traveled through time. One hour into the past.

Doc Brown only managed one MINUTE on his first attempt.

My head is spinning.
