Seriously. I used to have serious problems falling asleep, coupled with chronic back pain. Somewhere around 2004 or so, on a whim and in a fit of disgust at around 3am, I tossed aside the innerspring mattress on my bed and replaced it with the air mattress which was still inflated from having had company over the previous night.
It was the best night's sleep I could remember having, and to date I have not once slept on coiled steel except when staying at a hotel or otherwise as a guest.

This style, with rubs from top to bottom, feels very natural, perhaps because my body also runs from top to bottom. The ribs are not deeply pronounced, but they are noticeable. I simply seem to fall into them naturally.
I have this on top of a standard box-spring, atop a standard bed frame. It is wrapped (during winter) in a Sunbeam brand heated mattress pad, and then standard bedding atop that.
The quality of these seems to be consistently fairly high- they do fail after a while (figure maybe a year's worth of continuous use) but before they fail completely, they do not leak much at all. I add air maybe once every 2 months.

Absolutely the best mattress system I've ever owned. Not cheap but the most comfortable for me.

Anyone have any experience with the delrin shifter bushings from miataroadster? Someone was kind enough to send a metal bushing from mazdaspeed motorsports and I tried it in the stock floppy shifter miata. I got curious if it could improve even more with the delrin bushings so I ordered a couple of those.

A few years ago, I did a job in Phoenix, AZ at KFYI. I stayed at the Radisson Hotel on 44th st, not too far from the airport. I remember that clearly, because they promoted the fact that the rooms all had sleep-number beds.
Now, there may have been certain other contributing factors (eg: stress was high at that job), however it was one of the worst nights' sleep I've ever had.
Something about that bed just felt really awkward to me, kind of like those memory-foam mattresses. It didn't feel at all like I expected, and I had to move to a different hotel after that first night because I figuratively just couldn't sleep at all.

Don't go mattress "looking" with a 1 year old. You will end up being rushed and paying $3500 on a mattress you both dislike.
Memory foam took some getting used to, but damn do I fall asleep quick. Problem is I still wake up with some back pain. Not as much as before with the old college costco spring mattress, but it's still there. I'm pretty sure the wife still has pain but she's too proud to say so. "oh no, it's fine".

How is that even possible? I didn't even know that they MADE mattresses that cost $3,500. I mean, maybe in Luxembourg or Qatar, where they have more money than they know what to do with, but even there I'd expect the mattresses to cost $3,500 only because the springs inside are made from melted-down €2 coins and the top padding is woven entirely from the down of newly-hatched Pekin ducklings.

no seriously, this $500 splurge was NO cheap.
we actually bought 5 sheet sets trying to find good ones, ended up actually buying random ones at HomeGoods that worked out for a good price.
then we needed a new frame, a new headboard, a new mattress cover/pad, a new comforter, and now we want new king sized pillow. (we first tried the metal frame that's recommended for that mattress but I just spent 4 hours putting together a new frame and headboard last night, it looked too much like a dorm room on a cheap metal frame and wasn't incredibly sturdy/stable)
It's pretty large, but my wife was always complaining about me rolling over at night and pretty much squishing her and we have plenty of room in our bedroom (this bed actually opened up a little floor space between it and the dresser in front of it because the frame isn't so large). Plus now the cats have more room and don't bother us as much, before it tended to be 1 cat on my pillow, 1 cat on her pillow, and 1 cat on her legs with really no wiggle room. Now I have two sleeping on either side of me and the other at our feet, but not on top of us and I hardly notice them. The bed is lower too, so it's not as apparent when they jump up and the mattress completely absorbs the force. Before, we actually had steps going up on bedframe, and when the older cat used it, she made a lot of noise jumping up off it, and the fat one that would still jump up was always loud and clumsy and often uncutting his jump and falling on his ***.
No longer do any of us wake each other in the night. My wife is a really light sleeper and always re-adjusts and it would always wake me up. And likewise, I used to wake up at night sore on one side and flip over and that would wake her up--now this never occurs. Actually, since getting the new mattress I have only woken up once in the night, and that was because some big as diesel was driving up and down the street, so it was unrelated.
as far as sex, you honestly think someone would get naked near me, let alone let me touch her/him/it?

Yep. I don't mind spending money for a good reason, the wife not sleeping well is a good reason. We would rather spend 5x on a mattress from Sleepy's that we can lay on in the store and we are sure to like, than buy online and hope. I'm sure there's something similar on amazon for $800 but which one?
We're like that guy in the Toyota commercial. He has no idea what car he wants, just today is the day he buys a car, any car. Jan, which toyota should I buy? Ahh, a Corolla that doesn't look like a Corolla.
But we end up not liking it much anyway. haha. We like it better than the old mattress, but not $3500 better. And again, it's horrible for doing it. It's actually kinda funny. Whomever's on top is completely spent after a minute.

I don't know how you came to this conclusion. I'm curious - but also afraid - to find out your explanation. Other than a few specific, bounce-related techniques, I can't see how the memory foam is a negative and the lack of spring noise is a definite positive in my opinion.

we just bought the one that had the best amazon reviews and took the gamble.

I'm lazy and out of shape. I rely on the natural frequency of the mattress to do the work for me.
Now with this new mattress, any vertical movement is absorbed quite well, even horizontal movement somewhat. There's no rebound at all; at least if you do it on the floor you have the bounce from belly or *** fat. That's all absorbed on our mattress.
Like Brain said, you cannot tell when the other person moves, gets in and out of bed, the 50lb dog jumps up or down, nothing. It's a miracle.

I found the memory foam ones to be way too hot for me. Holds the heat in so well that I feel like I'm roasting. Can't stand the air bladder types, either; they just don't feel right to me.
Expensive (~$800) Sealy pillowtop every 10 years is how we do it.

I can't sleep if I'm hot, not having that issue. This mattress has a 3" layer of "coolfoam". but we'll see hot that changes this summer.
what was kinda sad was that the night we let the new matress air out, we slept on the floor on the old queen mattress. Solved most of our problems just getting the mattress off the janky bed frame and the blown boxspring.

I have only been using my memory foam mattress for a little over a week. So far sex has not been an issue on it. I will have my wench over again next Monday night and will try again for science. The only issue I have is that the frame I got put the mattress a little high for me to stand on the ground and hit it from behind, but it works perfectly for her on her back at the edge.
