The number of noodles in my bowl is too damn high! Made some Chinese style egg noodles, which come dried in these very dense *****. Two looks like not enough, so I made 3. WAY too many noodles. They were more densely packed than I anticipated, and expanded a little more than I thought. This is portioned for 3 people, but I endeavor to eat them all.

I failed. Noodles-1 | Me-0

I finally get it.

Amtrak. It's never made any sense to me before, but I understand now.

Any advice on an extremely small, Roku-like box, which has some internal storage, a remote, and an HDMI out, and which I can easily toss in a backpack and bring to someone else's house and plug into their TV, fuss-free?

If I'd have been thinking about this requirement when I bought this tablet from which I'm typing this while I poop, I'd have made sure to get a tablet with an HDMI out. Wasn't, and didn't.

Seņor Perez,
Why not build something like a Rasberry Pi or similar?
Get everything you want, and nothing you don't. With the option to make changes as needed.

Chromecast might work for you with your tablet (Amazon $35). Do you have a Amazon Prime, Hulu, or Netflix account? You can plug in a Chromecast and use the tablet to route the video.

There are other apps that will send the tablet screen over to the Chromecast as well (sorry, can't think of the names)

I appreciate the confidence you have in my engineering skills, but I really don't want a science-fair project. I want a rugged, reliable box that I can toss in my backpack, hop onto an Amtrak train, get off in the catskills, plug it into the TV at the cabin, and snuggle up on the sofa under a warm blanket with the woman, without any kind of geek-level antics being involved.

And I want it by Thursday.

Potential contenders:

ASUS O!Play Mini Compact HD, 7.1 Channel OPLAY_MINI/1A/NTSC/AS

Netgear NTV300SL NeoTV MAX Streaming Media Player

WD WD TV LIVE Streaming Media Player WDBHG70000NBK-HESN B&H

Roku Roku 2 XS Streaming Player 3100R B&H Photo Video

None of these actually contain internal storage, but they all seem to accommodate the direct connection of some form of either USB or SD storage. Not sure if an SD card or a USB thumbdrive is going to be up to the task of 1080p, but I have tiny little USB hard drive I could also use.

Any direct experiences with any of these?

I have a WD TV Live Hub (with storage) and it's great. It can play back just about every file format and is pretty easy to work with. Also does all your favorite streaming sites too.

Plus you can control it with your phart smone.

I also have one at home- it's my main playout device, and even though I use the 4TB media-server as the primary storage, it does have a 1TB drive in it which never gets used. I could simply take that box with me, I was thinking that there might be something smaller and lighter.

I have a pi and it is really not that bad. Just an SD card, load up RaspBMC and upload up the videos on the XD card.

I use this
keyboard keyboard

For a case, I have
This This
, but you probably want something that seals better.

If all you are trying to do is play movies from SD card, this would be cake, much easier than some of the megasquirt stuff you have done.
