After separating from my previous employer on January 15th, 2016 and being unemployed for 25 days, I was offered a position with a textile manufacturer south of Atlanta, GA. The position is facilities engineer and I will be able to hire/fire, assign work to my team, build a work order/PM system, in addition to the to everything else I have responsibility over.

The base salary is unfortunately lower than I would have liked, but it seems that things in this area pay significantly less than I am used to. I was able to negotiate a few more dollars than originally offered, a 3rd week of vacation plus 5 personal/sick days (stoked), and instead of the normal 90 day health insurance waiting period, I will be added to their plan on March 1st. Their 401k matching sucks, and I can't contribute to their plan for a year, so I'll be continuing to manage my own contributions to my existing IRA during that time period.

But the positives of the position are that I will get a lot of exposure to new systems and high-speed manufacturing, as well as a lot of supervisory/management experience so that may open many new doors for me in the future so I can return to making a reasonable salary. My commute will be about 25-30 minutes and does not involve any of the major clusterfucky main highways around Atlanta.

I accepted the offer and will be starting on Monday the 15th.

There are a few other positions that I have been interviewing for and will continue to keep my options and lines of communications open during this period of transition for me.

It can be a ******* nightmare without proper prep and knowledge, but SB100 can be had these days. Gesso did it with his Exocet and I've spoken to several other people who have done the process as well. The key is knowing EXACTLY what you need to do and what you need to have in hand BEFORE you get anywhere near the state.

**** like this is the perfect reason that all states should adopt a yearly or bi-yearly vehicle safety/road-worthiness inspection. I grew up in PA and didn't mind the yearly safety inspections. Recently they relaxed the body-condition/rust portion of the inspection. For example in ohio I saw a early 2000s Ford Exploder stuck on the side of a road because the rear axle FELL THE **** OUT. Either because the shackles for the leaf springs rusted away or the leaf springs rusted away. Whole lotta NOPE.

Weekdays only. At this time, there is no 3rd shift maintenance (boo) and somewhat lacking support during other shifts. I can hire some additional personnel, and send the guys I have for more training. But I will likely be getting calls at all times for awhile until it all gets sorted out. I guess when I get called I need to figure out who to send in to fix the problem in a timely manner.

I know. I went to wing stop the other day (I love wings) and while driving home on I-75S I got stuck in traffic with my bounty of wings. A 20 minute drive turned into an hour. I had soggy cold wings when I got home. NOPE.

Ohio driver here: a big "NOPE" for nanny laws. You PA boys can keep your annual inspections, I'll gladly drive by the occasional abandoned car sitting on a front tire, and risk a lottery winning chance at death from someone else's poorly maintained oncoming conversion van in the name of personal responsibility before happily trotting my *** down to the local bob's auto shop on an annual or biennial basis to wait in line to give them money so that they can tell me how much more money they're going to rape me for before I can drive my own car again.

The main reason I like annual inspections is proof of insurance.

The number of uninsureds, and the price to buy that coverage, has gone up dramatically since they did away with yearly inspections.

I'm sorry for missing all the responses to my earlier post about the TV show.
I had a pretty busy and exciting couple days to start the week.
First the TV show, and then being able to walk so soon after my surgery.

Anyway..

Turns out the show will be somewhat loosely based on Junkyard Wars or Scrapheap Challenge, and have a bir of "Mad Maxesque" drama to it.

Two teams will be competing to complete a given assignment within the allotted 48 hours, but rather than building, say, a hovercraft out of old scooters and discarded microwave ovens, they will be engaged in designing somewhat fantastic vehicles in what one could describe as more of a "post apocalyptic" atmosphere.

Obviously, production is not underway yet, and those who had a brush with anything to do with TV productions or committees will know full well how fickle this sort of thing is, and how fast plans change.

They will shoot it, that's for certain.


Oh, there IS a surprise in the works.
I can only reveal details IF whatever "surprise" that may be is officially announced to me.
2016 may prove to be very interesting yet.

That requires a bit of explaining.

In Turkey, automotive repair shops are grouped together in "Industrial Complexes".
I personally think that is a rather derogatory reference, because it leaves one with the impression a nation of almost 80 million citizens can merely fathom the concept industry within the realm and confines of auto repair, and not a whole lot beyond that.

So, you may hear people saying they have to take their car to the "industry" for some funny noise or maintenance work.

Since the show will be primarily revolving around things with engines and wheels, the working title is "Industry Wars".

See, If I just had typed Industry Wars, it would have made no sense at all to you guys.

Actually, I do kind of understand.

While this is rare in the US, here in New York City, businesses tend to be clustered in certain neighborhoods around an area of a few blocks, and are called districts. In fact, many of our neighborhoods are actually named for the industries which historically occupied them, most of which still do. So, for instance, we have the Garment District, the Diamond District, the Financial District, the Theater District, the Meatpacking District, and so on.

The film Chop Shop, which is about a young orphan who finds work doing odd-jobs at auto repair shops, is set in the Willets Point neighborhood of Queens. (Located on Long Island across the river from Manhattan and The Bronx, Queens is one of the five boroughs, or subdivisons, of NYC, which is historically known for being heavily populated by recent immigrants and is the most industrial of the boroughs. Both of our major airports, JFK and LaGuardia, are there.) In reality, Willets Point sounds like precisely the sort of complex which you describe. It consists almost entirely of auto repair shops and junkyards.

I am so excite! I just found out that I am within next day delivery range for McMaster-Carr. This is a nice surprise because I just moved here. I ordered some rivnuts and misc. other stuff yesterday at 2pm and checked tracking this morning. Delivery is scheduled for today.

McMaster is right off my exit on the highway. Will call FTW.

But Amazon recently built/opened a distribution warehouse in the same complex, so now there's a lot of traffic. For a while there, it was a nice mini trackdaybro road thru the complex to get to McMaster, as it was the only occupant.
