We went on a quest through the piles of obsolete PCs in the storage room until we found one with the correct-sized DDR2 DIMM, whereupon we installed it in the switcher. Didn't fix the problem, but the key point is that the word "DDR2" drifted through the air many times. As I always do, I had my cell-phone clipped to my belt during the process.
Now, at no point (until this very post) have I typed DDR2 into a computer any time recently. No google searches, no Amazon searches, etc. I've only spoken it aloud.

I guess most people don't realize that when they give an app permission to use the microphone, camera, or other components that it doesn't stipulate "while I'm using a particular app for my own purposes". Blanket permission is permission.
They probably also don't know a cell phone or similar device can be turned on remotely to determine location, eavesdrop, or use the cameras without alerting the user. Your permissions don't cover that part exactly but that capability has been around for decades.
