Ohh I don't really give two ***** how people price their items. I just don't buy from them. Once the talk of the 3% fee came up I felt like I wanted to blab about it is all.

Really its deeper than that. In my mind, if you're going to put up a fuss over a 3% fee, than whats going to happen if I receive the item and there's an issue. Typically people that nickle and dime their way through life cut corners when they shouldnt, such as when packing an item. So because you cant cover the $1 worth of packing material to insure safe delivery to me and now that I've contacted you with a problem, you probably don't want to hear about it. Then you proceed to pass the blame onto the shipping company.

Blah blah blah, I honestly don't care how others do it. My methods work very well and I stick to them. If I see something for sale I want and there's anything that raises a red flag, I walk away from it. A seller announcing that he needs his buyer to cover the 3% fee is one of those.

So it's safe to say that anytime you put an item up for sale, I can just take 3% off the price, because you won't put up a fuss about it, right?

Are you reporting your business expenses/depreciation/income on your 1040 as a schedule C? Got an LLC?

If you have neither you are missing out on a significant tax shelter. I think you could probably report that 3% fee as a business fee for a service.

When I put up an item up for sale its an all inclusive price. The price not only includes the 3% PayPal fee, but it also covers my materials, fuel and time to get/package the item. It also includes a guarantee that what I send is exactly what you see pictured and you'll receive it exactly as you see pictured.

That's all fine -- I'm just saying that since you've publicly stated that you don't understand why sellers make a fuss over getting that 3%, I'm assuming that you're fine with everyone automatically knocking 3% off of your prices. After all, if you're going to nickel and dime people over that last 3%, they probably wouldn't want to deal with you anyway.

For people on this forum I'd knock 10% off my prices.

You see. If I list an item on the car enthusiast forum I'm a part of, chances are I'd be willing to give more of a discount, rather than pull every ******* dollar I can. I'm merely stating that if you want to account for that 3% to just include it in the price. Chances are if someone wants it enough they wont bat an eye at that 3% mark up. Maybe I'm wrong.

I try and get as much as I can for everything I sell on eBay, just like anyone else would. The fees are just something that I accept because that's how I make money. If I was to try and find a way around PayPal to avoid that 3% fee, not only would I lose time invested into finding a substitute, but I'd also lose A LOT of business. People trust PayPal and they prefer to use it over anything else. Although I never turn down cash.

Braineack, why don't you just have people send you a check when you build a MS for them, and then send the MS when it's done. I know some people wouldn't like just sending out a big check to person instead of a company, but if they really insist on paypal, you could just go with it because you'd be using paypal so much less, so the paypal fee & tax would be cutting into your profit margin less.

In other news, I got a new rotary tool. Yaaaaay.

i prefer money orders. personal checks can bounce even after the funds are in my account. i dont gamble with money.

Fedex is FAILBOAT. I was expecting 2 packages from them today. I get home from work and one of them is sitting on my steps. I am wondering where the other one is. I go check the tracking number and it says still on a truck. So now I have figured out that one was sent Fedex Ground while the other I am guessing was sent FedEx air or something. I understand the difference between the two, but you would assume that since both past through the same sorting facilities around the same time this morning. That they might have noticed and put them both on the same truck.

Scored an EGT gauge w/probe, oil temp gauge and an op gauge (with senders) and a oil filter sandwich adapter, all for about $90 including FedEx shipping!

BTW Brain, I forgot to mention. According to what I've been reading its $20k AND 200 transactions. So as long as you don't exceed 200 sales you should be good. You think you make more than 200 units a year?

I would think that if he filed Schedule C, that he'd also have to file Schedule SE, and that would more than wipe out the savings from writing off a 3% transaction fee.
