In case you hadn't heard, Amazon now collects the same shitty taxes that you'd pay locally. The Use Tax loophole has closed.

I thought that was only in some states, but not IL yet. Joe, you may have ruined my day pretty hard core there.

To my legislators:

Quickly looked at my last order and still no sales tax charged. I will need to research this more.

Could be. I know that they are at least in the process of passing this at the federal level. If it hasn't happened yet, it will.

EDIT:

I'm retarded- by definition there cannot be a Federal law to this effect, as it's inherently a state tax. Looks like more and more states are signing up, though. Right now, Amazon collects sales tax in:

California
Kansas
Kentucky
New York
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
Texas
Washington

So it looks like you can still enjoy the free ride for a while longer.

OK, all is cool, IL commies haven't won the fight yet.

Orders Subject to Sales Tax
Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries
Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the following states are subject to tax:

California
Kansas
Kentucky
New York
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
Texas
Washington
Amazon.com Help: Sales Tax Requirements Amazon.com Help: Sales Tax Requirements

Reason why it matters to me:

The city of Chicago has the highest total sales tax of all major U.S. cities (9.5%).[85] It was previously higher (10.25%), however, it was reduced when Cook County lowered its sales tax by .5% in July 2010 and another .25% in January 2012.[86] Chicago charges a 2.25% food tax on regular groceries and drug purchases, and has an additional 3% soft drink tax (totaling 12.5%). An additional 1% is charged for prepared food and beverage purchases in the Loop and nearby neighborhoods (the area roughly bordered by Diversey Parkway, Ashland Avenue, the Stevenson Expressway, and Lake Michigan).
Illinois requires residents who make purchases online or when traveling out-of-state to report those purchases on their state income tax form and pay use tax.
I know it will eventually happen with the economy in a rough spot and lawmakers looking for money to pay themselves with everywhere. But, I dread the day when my glorious loophole will be closed.

I heard Chicago is an awesome place to live, especially for education and jos...since they collect all that revenue. and those anti-gun laws keep the streets safe!

Dude the antigun laws are great, the criminals love them good guys can't shoot back! Jobs are good though if you are in IT or Financial.

I hate the state to be honest, I begrudgingly moved here from Northern Indiana, because there are no jobs back home. I just moved up to the burbs last fall. It's not home, but it's better then living in the ******* loop. The final straw was last fall after my kid was born and the city stole my miata for a couple weeks. Then they found it and told me to come get it before it got towed.

this isn't the politics thread GUISE

but I'm confused how more guns and more shooting is better--even if it's the "good guys".

Also: Scott, how can you spend money at Walmart when all they do is put it in big ore carts on a transpacific rail system to China?

y8s, it's just a joke. However, I don't agree with the gun control laws in Chicago that thanks to the DC case got proven to be unconstitutional. Does it make the city safer if I am packing? Probably not, because I don't find myself in the area where folks are getting shot. Would it mean more burglaries end in shootings, yes, but I can just as easily but the **** out of you with a bat and enjoy it more.

The senseless violence in the run down areas is depressing and appalling. Just a few weeks ago there were 19 killings in one day! I'm not sure how it compares to LA, NYC, ATL, but it's pretty bad. Having my own hand gun won't help nearly as much as getting cops worrying about parking tickets during a Bears game less and instead patrolling the at risk hoods more. But, then again, I'm not an expert on crime either. My solution was to get the hell out of the city.

Pretty soon that online state tax **** will hit eBay and create a fuckton more paperwork for me.

I know they're fighting it, but if Amazon is on board already all will slowly follow suit.

What's with this "Home of the Boostin' Bangers" crap?

Sounds sophomoric at best.
And, not at all credible.

So we had a pretty epic thread on one of the local forums yesterday/today. Guy came in bitching about getting banned from the local 240 site...but to state he didn't care about getting banned. Someone called him gay so he posts a picture of his Miata...a NB1 with a rising sun on the hood, those damn octopus XXR wheels, bozo exhaust **** and some other generic crap. Someone tell him that the car looks like **** and posts a picture of my car stating that a properly modd'ed Miata should look like it. Guy starts insulting my car....then I enter the conversation without giving away that I was the owner of the car in discussion. Thread turns to **** with a quickness. It basically turned into a Forum vs Douchenozzle thread with said Douche trying to defend himself, make up lies, get caught in lies, backpedling...and then someone find his criminal background...convicted felon...mug shots....and then all hell breaks looks. It was VERY entertaining.
