Anybody here an electrical engineer, or know a bit about components like capacitors. I took my rear cover off of my TV to look around, and I turned it on while watching, and when it kicks off, I can see on the ballast board a thing that looks like a capacitor glows blue and makes a high pitch buzz noise when the bulb goes out and the TV resets. I assume this is not normal. I have heard this noise since I have had the TV though, which has been roughly 3 years. Never had this shut off and back on problem before though.
Here it is, and it making light. (tough to see, it's hidden behind plastic crap)
Looks like it has an opaque cover that still allows light through. What is that thing?
People with my same TV have had issues with the ballast board going bad, but I'm worried because they also said that when Samsung does the repair, they also replace the main board. I can buy the ballast board for $60, but cannot purchase the main board anywhere. I think maybe I could swap out the ballast board and be OK, at least for another 3 years, since that is how long it's lasted. Samsung seems to think something on the main board causes the ballast board to fail.

So with all they hype around the TSA's gate-rape policy, I've been preparing for some kinda smart-*** ****. Well, leaving ATL, I walked through with no problem. When leaving LAX, on the otherhand, everyone had to stand in front of the x-ray scanner (not the big round body scanner). So I walk in, take position and put my hands above my head and wait. The TSAer looks over at me and says "Sir, are you flicking off the machine?" to which I reply in a very monotone way... "I don't know.". Go figure I had to step aside and hear the same TSAer say into his radio "white make, anomoly on waist" as he turns to me and says "I need you to hold up your arms and I need to check your waist"...so I complied and as he was looking I said "that damn metal button....I guess we're all in trouble until they stop making jeans with metal buttons". After that....no problems and onto gate 58.

**** IT! I guess my camera is on wait, until I get a new TV. Even though this is a $1600 TV, it's several years outdated, and the repairs could be costly and reoccurring. Many of the posts I have read have told of people replacing power supplies, ballast boards and bulbs several times each, and they only last a month or two before one or the other goes out again. I'm not dropping $500 into a 3 year old TV when I could go out and get a good deal on a 55'' LED LCD for $1400...

The Pyramid Head is really hard to explain. The movie used him as a showcase to keep the fans of the video game series interested. It definitely worked, a lot of people got into the game series just because of Pyramid Head's appearances in the movie. The helmet was originally red and in Silent Hill 2 he is depicted as being somewhat small (like James, hence the manifestation) and deformed. In the movie, he was depicted as being huge and masculine, like a overbearing monster. The helmet is two pieces and acts like a iron maiden and the sword is just a over sized knife that is just lugged around. It's all supposed to be punishment(for what? Who knows).
Pyramid Head is definitely the most popular and most known monster from the Silent Hill series. However, he only appears in one game before the movie came out. He is one of the main monsters in Silent Hill 2 and in Silent Hill 3 he is seen behind a pair of bars but he doesn't move and you don't interact with him at all(your radio will start to go off but that's it).The idea or story behind Pyramid Head is that he(it) is a manifestation of your pain or sadness if you are interacting with the town. In Silent Hill 2, James is thought to be sexually frustrated with his wife so that's why Pyramid Head is seen sexually assaulting some of the other monsters in Silent Hill. You come face to face with Pyramid Head a few times and it's usually all the same but still scary as hell.
They brought Pyramid Head back for Silent Hill: Homecoming (Silent Hill 5) and a lot of people were very happy with the game just because of this. Most aspects of the game, as far as details of the town, were actually taken from the movie. People responded well to how the town takes shape when the sirens are blown. The ash all over the place and the ground lifting off itself like strips and floating away.
If you a PS3, you can download the original Silent Hill from the PS network for like 5 bucks, lol.
