I'm just saying, the world isn't always against you. I've applied for many jobs, felt I was the best fit, and didn't get it. A lot of times a hiring manager is required to interview a certain number of people, even though they already know who they will be hiring.

I have. Been there, done that. And werd, I worked for Lexus for about 6 months and things didn't go as planned. I got out, sold my tools and never looked back.

I may not have been the ideal fit for the job, but I have done that type of work before, I passed the test, and was told to be waiting for a recruiter to call and set me up a drug screen and process my background check. I did get an email response from her, but she was "out of town" and had other **** more important than getting back in touch with me. Pretty sure I would have had the job otherwise.

Serious question about wireless services:

Does any provider offer the following:

1: A device which I can plug into my PC, preferably via USB,
2: Which offers relatively high-speed data access (>1Mb/s),
3: Reliably,
4: At a reasonable cost,
5: And without significant bandwidth caps?

Verizon has them Data Cards & Laptop Sticks | Mobile Broadband Devices | T-Mobile. My sister uses them and loves it. They only have that for their house Internet. I used it and had speeds of about 10Mb/s-20Mb/s.

I don't think (within reason) there are bandwidth limits on the verizon ones, they just slow down your speed drastically after you hit your "highspeed" bandwidth limit. Probably only good for email at that point.

She uses the access point ones though, where it's like a router basically and you connect wirelessly. It's small and she can carry it with her in the car or to a friends house etc..

I don't need massive bandwidth- 1Mb/s would be *more* than adequate. It's the overall monthly data cap that concerns me...

Question about data usage- the vendors all seem to spec this as a single number, without clarifying upstream vs. downstream. Do they only monitor downstream usage, or is this number the sum total of both up and down, or... ?

I also will not sign a 2 year contract. This is absolutely, 100% non-negotiable. I've never had a cell phone contract before, and I do not intend to start now.

Dude! Ting looks awesome. I'm tired of paying $95 a month for a 4G device that I barely use. I use literally 20 minutes a month, and only about 500-800MB of data, and maybe 50 texts. Not worth $95. Is Ting actually legit? How am I just now hearing about it?

Ting is 100% legit. I'm using it now. You literally pay for exactly what you use. It bumps you up to whatever amount of data/minutes/text you use. My bill is like $15-20 a month. But if I use a lot of data or something it will go up to whatever the next plan higher is.

I think they use the sprint network. I have had no issues with service in PHX.

Since people were interested in it I checked to see if they do a referral thing and it looks like they do. So if a few people sign up we should pass each other a referral, it helps both people. Both get $25 towards service or phone.

Jesus christ this is the answer to my prayers. I can honestly get away with $33 dollars a month. I am stalking ebay to snipe a galaxy rugby now.

In the meantime I ordered a cheapo from amazon that should hold me over until I get this Ting account setup and find a phone.

Edit: Can't do the Galaxy Rugby since it's not Sprint supported. They do sell used phones, though...hmm

Beware the sprint network... I currently use Boost Mobile, which uses the Sprint network - currently $45/mo unlimited everything (I got "shrinkage" - in 1 month I'll be paying $40... every 6mo $5 gets knocked off, up to $15), pay as you go, no contracts. The speed slows down past 2600mb data, which is about a month's usage for me. Not a bad deal at all, but good luck getting signal if you get too far off the beaten path. Not sure is 4G yet.

Coverage - Ting

I have yet to have any issues with coverage. In PHX I can only get 3g, tho they do have 4g some places.

For those that are looking, just make sure you get a phone that will work if you buy separately. And remember if you use that referral you can get $25 off a phone, or service. It does it automatically after you click the link.

3G is good enough for me, and if I'm too far off the beaten path, I'm probably hiking or camping, and don't want coverage anyway. My phone is more of a safety thing for me, more than a necessity. 90% of my calls in incoming, and I only use web for looking at my bank account or looking at a map. Text is used more than anything else, and that is still only 150-200 a month.

Same as me^ I've been sharing 500 minutes a month and have never come close to going over. I'm lucky to see 300 texts a month.

Yeah - that looks about right. You'll be covered in most metro areas and along interstates. My problem is when I leave the interstate on some back-road shortcut... will have no service. Then again, I'm in Alabama too. Just don't buy a ZTE if offered - stay Samsung.
