Question:

The "blacked-out" front grille with hidden headlights looks like what I typically associate with the Judge package, but I didn't think that was available in '68.

Has this been modified, or am I off-base on the availability of that option?

They were gray and satin black. I painted mine because they were uneven and ratty.

I keep thinking I should have done that rather than wait for the Pro based unit. Do you have a build thread somewhere? Otherwise I can always crap up this thread with questions. Regardless, I'd love to hear your impressions after you get it installed

No build thread. I'm on the fence on whether or not to keep the car. Both funds and motivation have hit an all-time low

Either way it's going to be a while before I get to use this thing.

I am pissed.

I have been away for a business trip for over a week now.
My wife called me in a panic this evening, telling me my bike is on fire.
I had parked it in our parking lot just outside the front door, like I always do, and it was just sitting there.
The thing (An Aprilia Scarabeo 500) just burned to the ground in a matter of minutes.
Neighbors and a couple of delivery guys tried putting the fire out, but the front half of the bike is just gone now.
I really do not know what to think, and there is no way for me to get back home before December 3rd.
Argh. Really.
The only consolation in this fucktardery is the fact that I had left my car at the shop to take care of some little dings and whatnot while I was away.
Otherwise, I park the bike right next to the car, meaning, the car would be exposed to the flames, as well.
2013 has not been a very good year.

Has it just spontaneously combusted? I'm confused. Why was it on fire?

The only reason I can think of is an electrical fire.
Like I said, I am 1000 kilometers away at the moment. My wife sent me a couple of hastily taken cellphone pics.
I will try and (literally) dig into it when I get home to see what the hell happened.
I parked it there on the evening Tuesday Nov 19, after a 30 Km ride, and that was that.

EDIT: I just looked up your Aprilia. That, sir, is a scooter or a moped. Not a bike. Still sorry it caught on fire.

Reading online reviews of various products always makes me want to punch people in the *****. "I really like this camera lens, it does everything that I want, but it's not a pocket knife. 3/5 Stars". People give things a bad rating because it doesn't do things it was never intended, and shouldn't ******* do.

It makes 39 HP at 7,500 RPM, and weighs 190kg. That puts it in the same general power/weight neighborhood as a Lamborghini Murciélago.

Not really a moped, per se.

That project has been a colossal disappointment.
I learned a valuable lesson, tho.
Never mess with a cheap Chinese built engine. The aluminum is so bad and soft, every bolt hole strips, ans every seam leaks no matter how careful you are when you put it together.
That, and the fact that stator just could not keep up with the power demand of a fuel injection system, plus the fuel pump.
I will be restoring it to back to stock when I get a chance.

My first project failure so far.

My sentiments, exactly.
That thing used to get up to 170 km/hr on the freeway as soon as I twisted the throttle..
Cruising at 140 was a breeze, and it got better gas mileage at 140 than it would at 80. (About 4 liters/100 km - 58.8 mpg)

I may have a way to save it yet. I remember seeing an ad for another one with a bad engine for about $1500. (A new one would be around 15K)

Okay, okay -- so it's a badass scooter.
