The prii is lightyears better.
Why? Because it's heavier, or because it's more complex?

Because it's more efficient.
Prius starts off on battery and engages engine past 5mph. Prius will cut off the engine when you get to a light every time. Honda will do it sometimes, and if you take your foot off the brake it will kick the engine on, and won't turn it off until you drive the car some. There are many thing the stupid honda "hybrid assist" system did that were dumb. Maybe they fixed it in the most current hybrids, but that was not the case with the older ones.

Oh and the 04-05 civic hybrid had the most recalls and defects out of any car that year....We used to get recall letters like every other month

**** Einstein.

For all practical purposes, time is linear.

There, I said it.

They don't stop. Ever. The hours change a little. They close if it snows, but otherwise they are open all year, just smaller in winter. I think usually the switch over is Dec 1/May 1.

Also how cute are you guys talking about hybrids. I mean it really is pretty impressive how the Prius manages to function better in low speed driving than a gasoline engine car.

I have serious stopping anxiety in gas cars because using friction to slow down is stupid and because idling at a stop sign/light is stupid. Regeneration and auto stop features make me so happy I need looser underwear.

This is the worst video in the internets, but I found it very educational.

Lol it's kinda fun to play that game, don't care what people say. My best thus far was 53. Mostly lots of cold start short trips so I bet I could get 55 out of it

I don't debate the fact that, like every other Toyota produced since the end of WWII, the Prius incorporates a lot of innovative technological concepts.

But I'm also not going to debate the merits of the drivetrain separately from those of the overall car. That would be like arguing that the NA is a shitbox because it shares an engine with the Mercury Tracer.

The first-gen Insight was a marvel of lightness and robust technology. 16 years later, it's still the most fuel-efficient four-wheeled non-plugin vehicle ever sold in the US. The fact that there are loads of them for sale on Autotrader with 150-200,000 miles or more is a testament to the enduring value of a simple design, using a conventional synchromesh gearbox and friction clutch, along with an easily rebuilable battery pack. The entire body and chassis seem to have been made from an unknown material which fell to the earth from space, since the car weighs less than a stripped NA, yet contains a number of bourgeois luxury features such as air-conditioning and side windows that move with just the touch of a button.

The current-gen Insights and Civics are indistinguishable from the current-gen Prius. Fat, bloated, 4-door sedans built from ordinary materials with uninspired styling and no real sense of purpose. They are commodity cars. Nothing wrong with that, per se, I just find it impossible to get excited about them any more than I would be about a new washing machine or Corolla.

^^ That's always been a good one, and fun to see the great lengths "disputers" will go to for disproving it mathematically when it really is quite intuitively simple: For any of the infinitesimally small corners, the length of the arc fitting within it will always be less than length of right angle sides comprising it, no matter how small they get.

Limits can be a bitch like that

Geometry was always my weakest math subject, but I found this video I saw the other day fascinating.

Pulse and Glide strategy = Enter fast lane, speed up to 70, then slow down to 55, repeat.
Uphill strategy = Accelerate to 70 in the fast lane, slow down to 45 going up the hill, then coast back up to 70 going downhill.
Recharge strategy = Slow down for stop light 1/2 block before stop light, allowing cars from all side lanes to pass in front of you while blocking everyone behind you.

Those things are exclusive to the prius? Isn't that just basic hypermile strategy?

I don't really care to watch nine minutes of prius driving secrets as I'll likely never own one. Is there any strategy exclusive to the prius? I can't think of one.

Don't know if anyone saw the reddit thread of a 17 year old miata owner getting bullied at his school for driving a miata. Turns out it was just a ruse. OP deleted his account.

Can't say I'm surprised.
