How (and why) to Ramble on your goat sideways
Good grief, the new Gmail sucks. Gotta love "cleaner" formats that actually display less information and make it harder to tell what you are looking at.
I blame Steve Jobs.

Refresh the page, then look for a link in the bottom right corner to update to the new Gmail look.
As it happens, you can fix the gmail update by changing the inbox density to "compact." Unfortunately, there's no fix for how terrible Google Reader looks now.
Sooo. Much. White Space.

Metallica Fans Are Threatening To Shoot Lou Reed
Lou Reed says that Metallica fans have threatened to shoot him after the sour reaction to their "Lulu" collaboration.
Reed told USA Today that the metal fans "are threatening to shoot me, and that's only because I showed up."
He added: "They haven't even heard the record yet, and they're recommending various forms of torture and death."
"Lulu" seemed an intriguing concept at first, until the first stream of the song "The View" which sparked serious concerns over the integrity and quality of the upcoming collaboration.
But none of that fazes Reed, who has seen more than his fair share of poor sales and negative reviews over the years.
"I don't have any fans left," he says. "After Metal Machine Music (1975), they all fled. Who cares? I'm essentially in this for the fun of it."
Lars Ulrich leapt to the defence of the singer:
"This is something they've never heard. Nobody hears rhythms or delivers poetry the way Lou does. It's not for everyone, but I think it's a fantastic record."
Reed called Metallica his "metal blood brothers," and even hinted that there could be more from Loutallica if he gets his way.
"No-one wants 'Lulu Part 2', but on Radio Lou, in my head where I hear these songs, I want more of it," he said. Get those pitchforks ready.

That explains the new GMail stuff. It's not so much about functionality as it is design and look. My two biggest issues were all the wasted white space (mostly fixed once I changed to the inbox density to "compact"), and the switch from text-labeled buttons (ie, "Delete", "Move To", etc.) to overly-stylized graphic icon based buttons (ie, a trash can, a folder with a down arrow, a luggage tag?, etc).
Now it looks like something a graphic design undergraduate would create, instead of a piece of software I want to use every day.

I've been awake for the past 48 hours furiously banging out a 30 page long paper on early European contact with native tribes. If I see the term "sertanista" or "bandeirantes" one more time, I'm going to vom.
YO, ****.
YO, ****.
you dumb ****, the events I'm referring too took places hundreds of years before the American Indian Wars.
the first Castilians and Portuguese killed MILLIONS of people with little effort.
in North America, thousands of soldiers couldn't track down and kill a few Apache warriors.
