Hyundai Genesis
Anyone seen the most recent Motor Trend?
The 2.0 turbo, which I have not tested, sports only 210 horses (and 223 pound-feet of torque at a low 2,000 rpm). I say only because there are two important mitigating factors. The first is the car's $24,495 price, which is incredibly cheap for a full-sized, rear-drive sports coupe (even the full-zoot GT only costs $30,745). The other is that this turbo four is quite similar to the Mitsubishi Evo's 2.0T, which boasts 291 hp. Considering the tuning expertise that surrounds the Evo brand, it's not a large hop, skip or jump to expect a serious amount of aftermarket hop-up parts will be available for the Genesis 2.0T in short order. |
What an idiot. The Miata has a 1.8 liter, the Honda has a 1.8 liter THEY MUST BE SIMILAR AMIRITE GUYS

It puts 197 hp on Dynojet rollers. It can't have just 13hp drivetrain losses. And it puts more torque to the rollers (228 lbs/ft crank, no drivetrain losses correction) than the advertised number at the crank (223 lbs/ft). And on top of that, they crimped the exhaust pipe - to limit the hp I guess. Take a look: http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightlin...yno2_arrow.JPG http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightlin...20t%20dyno.jpg |
I take that back, then. 227tq at 2200rpm is seriously impressive.
|
The car looks good in person, too.
|
Wow, so this thing is just BEGGING for a 3" exhaust and some management?
I remember seeing the add during the super bowl, I thought it was gonna be something crazy, looks like it is. I've heard nothing but how incredibly great a deal the 4 door is, if the coupe has that bargain level, plus performance, it might be my graduation present instead of a G37S. |

I heard from a friend who lives near Cleveland, owns a Bushur Racing Evo, and routinely visits Bushur, that the only major difference is the head... and they're interchangeable. ;) He also states they've already put down over 500whp w/ the 2.0T... but could just be hear-say. I went to the Cleveland Auto Show as well as the Cincinnati Auto Expo and sat in both the coupe and the V6. Personally, I'd rather have the V6 w/ 300+ advertised HP and just daily drive it. I have 2 play cars already, the Miata and the Z28, need a more reliable daily. I think both the Coupe packages will sell like crazy and I love them... but... Bashing: I HATE what they did w/ the body line on the coupe right at the rear of the door near the jamb where it transitions to that little window... why not just leave that straight rather than that tacky curve there? Would've looked better. Plus the body line on the front fender reminds me a lot of a Ford Focus or even a new Accord. (the Accord coupe looks very similar to a Genesis Coupe also) :2cents: |
They NEED to drop the sedan's V8 into it...

let me finish that sentence: small turbo they use. |
A friend of mine just got a 2.0T and it's pretty flat outta the box.
First off it's got a 4B11T engine, but it's not the same as the EVO X. It uses cast pistons, and sintered rods. The head design is a little different too so, the EVO exh/int manifolds don't fit the port design. But I bet you could bolt the EVO motor to the RWD tranny. We messed around with the boost a bit. Putting a boost gauge on it in stock form it boosts to 14psi until around 4-4.5k then drops to 11psi and holds it to redline. We threw a boost controller on it and played around with it and got it to boost to 16psi but it would only hold that until ~5.5k and then it tapered off to around 12psi at redline. It definately needs breathing mods. We're gonna get an exhaust made for it and make an intercooler kit too. I think we should be able to get a reliable 260whp with it without very much effort. There are a lot of areas to improve that motor, should be a very fun car to mod. |
I so wish I hadnt bought my 540i a few months ago.
|
where is the torque discussion?
|
I've wanted this since I saw it.
This is the car that car manufacturers should have made years ago. I may end up picking one up. LSD + Turbo 4 + RWD = 24k |
Looks like a pretty sick bargain. Def. going to have to stop by the dealership for a test drive now. Good job Hyundai!
|
how heavy is it?
|
|
I just spent the last 20 minutes doing something I never figured that I would do-browse the Hyundai website.
One downside. You can only get the LSD and Brembos on the 2.0T Track edition, plus the nice small 19" wheels:jerkit:, so you are already up to $26,750 instead of $22K. |
