Hell yeah. That guy was one of my heros.

But he never returned any of my emails asking about parts, etc. I'm small-fries I guess.

magnamx-5 08-27-2007 03:04 PM

wow i wonder how much it costs. 2.25lbs/hp very impressive i wonder how they consider 225's capable of holding 370+hp though. seems kinda far fetched to me.

Ben 08-27-2007 03:07 PM

wow it's the mini-mcclerean that you still can't afford.

It doesn't weight shit and is AWD.

m2cupcar 08-27-2007 03:46 PM

$125k, but I'm sure you could build it yourself for far less. :D

firedog25 08-27-2007 03:49 PM

For that kind of money I'd rather have a Caterham or Noble and spend the leftover money on a vacation...Or a Aston Martin Vantage... or see if a Radical can be imported. I saw a Top Gear episode where they made a grown man damn near cry on the track giving him a ride in a Radical. Good shit.

Braineack 08-27-2007 04:38 PM

I saw one of these on the road in Boston while I was there a few weeks ago....looked interesting...

http://www.go-t-rex.com/

actually, it was this one:

on this street:

Ben 08-27-2007 05:28 PM

the t-rex's are cool. all the basketball players have them. see 'em at 404 motorsports all the time, at least I used to. haven't been to the hood in a while.

You're not really up on things. Radicals have been for sale in the US for at least 5 years. There are quite a few dealers. But they are not street legal, and probably never wil be.

I know of one that was registered for the street, albeit not legally...check One Lap of American pictures from 2005. Apparently New Hampshire will do anything ;)

BenR 08-27-2007 09:42 PM

Yea, I got a friend with a grey market european 2 stroke GP bike that's registered and insured, and there is a guy floating around town in a completely grey market Renault Alpine GTA/A610. But it took Bill Gates what, 10 years to get his 959 road legal?

y8s 08-27-2007 09:57 PM

that dp1 gives me engineering boner.

turbopezz 08-28-2007 01:02 AM

i love that little 8cyl motor.that most be a blast on a street bike.

akaryrye 08-28-2007 01:57 AM

wow, thats really a pretty nice design. Says the motor weighs 200 lbs, driver next to it should balance that out nicely.

speedf50 08-28-2007 02:13 AM

I'll take 2.

That thing is stupendous. I remember back last year when I first found out about that I couldn't get over that engine and how blindingly fast it must be. It's like some kind of insane shifter kart. I want one of those engines... bad.

lazzer408 08-28-2007 03:50 AM

Reminds me of the Atom.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaWoo82zNUA

akaryrye 08-28-2007 11:16 AM

oh I think this thing would be somewhat faster than an arial atom. I bet something like that would just rip a new on into a track like buttonwillow.

cjernigan 08-28-2007 11:18 AM

That website says they're testing the same motor in the atom now.

jayc72 08-28-2007 11:26 AM

The layout kind of reminds me of an RC car.

The DP1 would rape anything this side of a few forumulas and a Caparo T1.

With only 2.25 pounds for each of the 375 horsepower of its custom 2.8L V8, the power/weight ratio matches that of a modern Indy car. The chassis squeezes over 1.5g cornering from DOT-legal performance tires. And that's before downforce kicks in. A proprietary lightweight AWD system delivers the power to the ground. Many enthusiasts are familiar with the concept of a Traction Circle, defining a car's abilites to generate g forces in all directions - braking, cornering and acceleration. Except that in most cars the Traction Circle is not really a circle. The O is really a D with acceleration typically falling far short of the other abilites. Besides the lack of power, there is usually a lack of traction to use even whatever power that is there, relying on electronics to keep tires from spinning helplessly. The dp1 addresses both these issues. With power and traction that facilitate acceleration of over 1.5g it matches mechanical (non-downforce) cornering and braking. A perfect circle. It is my personal definition of well-rounded performance. To match dp1's potential, a million-dollar Bugatti Veyron supercar would need 1,850 horsepower and 3-foot-wide tires! Read below for a detailed explanation of this claim. Advanced simulations indicate 0-60 mph time of around 2.0 sec and 0-100 mph time around 4.2 sec for the dp1. These numbers are almost identical to a Formula1 car. Click the image for a larger version showing a sample sim result.

But the Hartley isn't even installed yet into the DP1, it is current being put into his atom. He has a great site, read through his entries. He has owned a bunch of amazing cars and given full writeups on them.

He doesn't go into the suspension on his cooper (whose springs?) and won't reply to inquiries about it.

Too busy building cool shit :bigtu:

True as that may be, even if it was street legal my ass would be in eternal pucker if I was behind the wheel. That Caparo, fucking amazing car.

With the money you spend with FM i bet you can afford 2 :gay: :dancegay: :inout:

speedf50 08-28-2007 10:00 PM

 FM is expensive. At least I got the cheapest kit they sell (no electronics). And at least I didn't spend my money on a pickup truck!

You have no idea though, some of the people who live in Malibu could seriously get someone one of those as a fucking birthday present. hmm I guess now is the time to start badgering lol. I met a guy with...

2 CGT's, and enzo, ruf r-turbo, zonda, 575, 360 challenge, 430 challenge, 430 vert, porsche rsr racecar, 360 cs, lotus exige s2, 997 gt3, M5, and a 997 gt3 cup car.
And all of those were in a giant garage on a piece of property that must have been worth 2mil on its own, right by the beach.
I have some pics I'll see if I can find them.

firedog25 08-29-2007 12:03 AM

Please do especially since the Zonda isn't federalized for U.S.

speedf50 08-29-2007 12:18 AM

Well I've seen one on the road, and I think this guy's had plates. I'll get on those pics.

jesus herbert christ on rubber crutches!

Flippy02 08-29-2007 02:00 AM

i went to Malibu, once, and got mixed up, and thought i was on my way to Santa Monica, and ended up in Oxnard.

speedf50 08-29-2007 02:19 AM

I forgot, he also has another 997gt3 rs that he races in american le mans? I think. And he has a race trailer for that, plus a collection of race wheels and tires that made just tires look whimpy. Along with crazy carbon fiber Ferrari race car parts. That place was like heaven.

firedog25 08-29-2007 02:21 AM

There's a loophole that Noble exploits where if the engine and chassis are shipped separately it qualifies as a kit car. Perhaps that's how he has it here? Or maybe he got it and it's registered as off road?

firedog25 08-29-2007 02:24 AM

Also, I know Pagani is working on the North American market, but from what I've read he doesn't know if he's going to do it with the Zonda or the new car he's brewing up. Definitely the new car though since it's easy to design the required crap in during developement.

speedf50 08-29-2007 02:31 AM

I think with the money that that guy had he could pretty much register what he wanted. And I saw a blue zonda out here right when they came out a few years back and that really threw me. They look so amazing in real life though.

And sorry for veering this thread off of the original topic.

mazda/nissan 08-29-2007 09:55 AM

how did he park that ferrari by the stairs ????

speedf50 08-29-2007 09:30 PM

... Reverse skills?

firedog25 08-29-2007 09:49 PM

Word, it's not that hard, I can park a car in a parking spot dead straight backing in. Nose in is another story.

mazda/nissan 08-30-2007 06:41 AM

i mean look at the door, its next to the stairs unless he crawled out the passenger door

devin mac 08-30-2007 09:26 AM

nah, it looks like the stairs are open underneath, so the door probably opens right up. :-)

BenR 08-30-2007 10:22 AM

Wow! It's like a boner museum. :eek5:

devin mac 08-30-2007 12:55 PM

eh, i kept the important parts :-)

hustler 08-30-2007 04:48 PM

those stradale's look so bad ass.

Loki047 08-30-2007 05:11 PM

I know a few guys with cars like that, he doesnt even carry insurnace on em, its cheaper for him to pay out if something happens then to keep them all insured.

Yes, it is called self insured, you need to have X amount in the bank and you are allowed to legally do it.

Loki047 08-30-2007 05:46 PM

Depends on your state. I dont believe thats allowed in IL

magnamx-5 08-30-2007 07:16 PM

In KY given a 25K $ bond you don't need insurance. Mandatory insurance has jacked up the prices on everything anyway :(

speedf50 08-30-2007 09:15 PM

Well this guy did have insurance on the cars as his insurance agent actually dropped by while I was there, and it turns out his insurance agency is the same one as mine!

And the pictures still don't do that place justice, and you can't even see the other cgt parked next to the black one. One for him and one for his wife. And he has a 12? year old daughter who he let drive his exige s2! I'll definitely try and get her # in a few years:naughty:.

My friend said he used to have even more cars! Then he sold off some of them to fund his race team. Oh and that 997 GT3 rsr was the only one in the country at the time I believe. It had arrived that day and he hadn't even seen it until we walked into the garage.

firedog25 08-30-2007 10:47 PM

Some insurance policies are part timers as well, they just call the agent when they plan on driving it and they're covered.

Loki047 08-31-2007 09:00 AM

What does this guy do?

mazda/nissan 09-02-2007 07:37 PM

deals peyote and marry jane

speedf50 09-02-2007 08:32 PM

LOL yes.

He started some tech company a while back and it seems to have done pretty fucking well. Now he has a race team as well, but I think that costs a lot more than any winnings he might get.

firedog25 09-03-2007 02:11 PM

Most race teams tend to be money pits serving only as mobile advertising unless you're getting some good sponsors.

Miata-MS 09-05-2007 12:12 AM

That Zonda is just sexy.....i'd love to see one in person. Please introduce me to this guy..... I have a feeling he might be a relative of mine....who desperately wants to give me access to his cars. ;)
