I did it, Pulled the trigger on a New SV1000

$6900 out the door, everything included. I think I got a good deal. Only catch, it's a left-over '06 with zero miles and a full warranty.

Seems that they are discontinuing the SV1000 and 2007 is the last year for it, who knows what Suzuki is planning!

But will it hang with your miata? :) Come on, gotta post some pics. I'm sending you a PM, I got a couple questions for ya about your turbo setup.

Mach929 04-04-2008 09:00 PM

sweet mark, i think it was a better choice than modding the old girl. any impressions yet? still too cold for me out there, hopefully in the next couple weeks, but i gotta buy tires again yay, then hopefully i'll make it down to the dragon on this year, offseason if i can

TurboTim 04-04-2008 09:02 PM

Wow that's a killer price Mark! I love my dad's SV650, if it weren't for the house-saving I'd be all over the 1000. Good luck with it!

Ben 04-04-2008 09:07 PM

Nice bike. Enjoy it, and be safe.

Actually, it will be slower than the Miata. Although both will trap about 120 in the 1/4 mile when all is said and done. I didn't buy the SV for HP, if that were the case, I probably would have gotten something else. I really wanted something fuel injected and reliable.

I wanted a narrow V-4 or V-twin bike... the New Interceptor is an overweight 500 Lb underpowered (800 cc) pig and the SV 1000 weighs about 410 Lbs and has another 30 HP over the Interceptor. Hopefully it's as good as it's loyal fan base raves about. I am having the bike shipped out here, I had to search the net for the deal I got.

Nice, congrats :)

My roommate's set on selling his ninja 250 this summer and getting an SV650. He doesn't like me pulling away from him all the time, so he wants to beat me by 30cc's :giggle:

It was 55 degrees today, so we got to go for a 200 mile ride, our first decent ride this year :bigtu:

Joe Perez 04-04-2008 09:40 PM

Very sweet ride, and $6.9k OTD is an awesome price. I've got an '06 SV650 and absolutely love it.

Blue or black?

Gray/Silver, it's an '06.

I almost got a SV650, halfabusa hehe (same bore and stroke as a hayabusa, just half the cylinders), decided to save for an FX35.

samnavy 04-05-2008 01:27 AM

Is it the "S" or the unfaired? There's something to be said about a traditional hooligan bike. It was a sad day when I sold my Aprilia Falco and I'll never go back to a clip-on bike.
Here in a few years, it'll be hard not to go back to a big twin as well I loved the TL1000s in a straight line when they made them... but that rear shock liked to kill you. The SV1000 is a machine and a half... it'll be tough to justify a Tuono or a SpeedTriple over one. I'll probably puss out and end up with a FZ1000 or a Futura... maybe an FJ1000 if I really lose my ballz.

wildfire0310 04-05-2008 01:55 AM

Nice find man.

I looked into the SV650 awhile back and they are great bikes. Never really looked at the SV1000 cause 1L still scare me. I ended up with an R6 and rode it daily even in the winter(GA so no snow) until it was stolen

SamS how is the Ducati? Any bad points to it?

Mine's the unfaired model. SV650N I call it. :D As to the 1000, I don't think there was a non-S version, at least in the past few years. Someone correct me?

I love my Duc. The only bad things about it are maintenance costs (which they supposedly improved on for '07+ models) and I'd probably go bigger than 620 if I could afford the insurance (I just turned 20, and the Monster 620 is only $25/month for full coverage).

I've had two cbr 600's, and definitely prefer the torque of a twin and it's hard to beat the sound too. I looked at SV650's a little, but I've wanted a Ducati since I was like 12, and couldn't resist the allure of an Italian bike for nearly the same price.

The R6 is faster in the 1/4 mile than the SV1000.

There is only the S, the full fairing is optional, I am not going to get the extra fairings as I like it a little closer to being naked.

The SV1000 is not terribly fast for a 1 liter bike, it's an 11.20/120 MPH 1/4 mile bike. Most 600's and 750's will show it taillights once the RPMs climb. It's as one person said, the swiss army knife of bikes... it does alot very well. Specializes in little though, but what you want in a street bike.

wow never would have expect that. I got mine modded as it was an ex stunt bike so it had an ungodly rear spocket, and a cage on it.

So when is the DOD so we can see some photos.

I will know Sunday or Monday. I have to close the financing up and get the shipping date from the dealer.

Hey, if I were a younger kid, I'd probably be on a Gixxer, don't get me wrong. There are lots of other bikes that are far more aggressive, powerful, handle better, yada, yada, yada.

I think you capture it perfectly... It's pretty good at everything, and great at nothing... except that seductive exhaust sound and the low/mid range punch of a V-Twin... Oh, and the maintenance is a fraction of what a Duc or Aprillia would put me through. These motors have been going 30+ k miles in somecases without even needing a valve adjustment.

I also looked at the Triumph Speed Triple, which I love the looks of, but worried about it being a money pit when it broke down. I want something that I can just ride the snot out of for a great many miles.

There are a lot of GREAT bikes out there. The supersport 600's are phenomenal, I almost went this route initially, but after owning a bike that was too buzzy at 14,000 RPM, I was convinced a 17,000 RPM YZF was probably not the best choice. The Interceptor reinforced the fact that having solid mid-range punch and a reasonably fast bike (mid to low 11's) was enough.

If there was something else similar at this price point, I would consider it, but there isn't! Even comparing list prices, there isn't something close. Not that I know of. I wanted a V-Twin or a V4, that removed a lot of bikes pretty quickly. Although I did consider the FZR-1 Yamaha and Triumph Speed Triple. I wanted a liter bike. That eliminated all but the Gixxer 750 and 1000, which I seriously considered as well. They lost out because I didn't want to be that leaned over all the time and the high likelihood that I would probably pull a Rich Christensen on it. I'm irresponsible and I know it... give me more power and I will use it. This is my way of limiting that a bit! ;)

Been there and done that. The gixxer is brutal in terms of acceleration. The SV is much more comfortable and pleasant to operate. The SV is also going to make power down low, where the gix makes all its power up top. Different bike completely.

I personally do prefer the Interceptor's 4 cylinder, despite the fact you call it a bloated pig. Maybe I'm biased though, as my Magna is the best bike I've ever owned.

LOL, Love the V4, dislike the heavy bike... Put the current interceptor on a diet that shaved off 50 kilos and an injection of 200-300 cc's of displacement and Honda might have a winner. Of course, you could just drop $$$$ on a 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR, instead... ;)

Yup, an inline-6. Ok, I'm not in love with the styling, but I saw a clip a short while back of a Suzuki engineer revving the engine at the Tokyo motor show and it was without question the most paralyzingly orgasmic sound I have ever heard in my entire life.

Really makes you stop and wonder... How is it that Suzuki Motor Co. can build such fabulously awesome motorcycles, and yet such amazingly shitty cars?

ThePass 04-10-2008 04:03 AM

I crashed my sv650 last week. Probably going to buy another bike with the insurance money and then slowly rebuild the sv. What a great bike. It's a 2000 Naked w/ Penske triple adjustable rear shock, racetech gold emulators in the front fork, dual high-mount titanium exhaust from Renegade, the list goes on. The plate even says NAKEDSV ;)
Good choice on the SV man

My dad has one of these (with NOS). Yeah, wheel spin in top gear at 100mph :eek5:

I have a ~3000 mile VFR750 engine sitting in my garage waiting for a nice idea. I'm thinking a nice custom drag style "chopper" with this V4, and maybe the above turbo. But the simplicity of the carbs would probably outweigh the complexity of converting to fuel injection.

Anyways, again congrats on the great deal. Nice bike!

There is no "N" version of the SV1000, they're all "S" models.

EDIT: WTF is this new B-King model? Is Suzuki trying to out-ugly (and outweigh) the BMW K1200 or something?

oh well i didn't think they still made the sv1000's, i just knew they did at one time but that is a good price for a new bike. Don't the sv1000's and V-Strom 1000's share the same motor? like the sv650 and V-Strom 650 do?

Yes, they share the same motor, and it's a pretty nice motor. Similar to the TL1000 but detuned to make less top end power and a little more mid-range torque. I hear it pulls pretty hard out of the hole.

They stopped making the SV1000 at the end of 2007, I am actually getting an 2006 with no miles. Just been sitting there waiting for someone to buy it. Full factory warranty etc. Hell, for 2k off MSRP out the door, ya, it's a good price. The 2007 would have been $700 more and a color I didn't really want. I've owned too many blue cars and bikes dammit, although I like blue.

Should get it next week sometime.

Mark

mazda/nissan 04-11-2008 07:48 AM

yeah i wish i could afford a bike and that my cars didn't absorb all my money. How much gas mileage you looking at getting with the sv1000s like 34-36mpg?

Ben 04-11-2008 07:52 AM

My Magna is a 98 that I got new out of the crate from a dealer in Miami in 2000. They sent it up in a semi to my home north of Atlanta. And even better, they allowed me to fedex a $1000 deposit, and pay the balance to the driver via certified funds after receiving and inspecting the bike. Paid around $5500 total incl freight, which is about what they were going for used at the time. :)

I don't really care about the gas mileage to tell the truth. I managed about 28 on my interceptor 1000... the same mileage on this bike would not surprise me, the only thing heavier than my throttle hand is my lead foot.
