No grand sports?

So how was that mental focus while driving other peeps vettes? :) When I drove a students '06 911S - I was walking on egg shells in the turns... tail all twitchy made me nervous. Cool to see they let you drive their vettes - it all helps you become a better instructor knowing what some cars will and won't do.

Too bad you didnt drive a centennial edition. Thinking of a C6Z with some pilot sport cups on it instead of ---- goodyears, gets me all hot and bothered.

Please note: I am aware the centennial edition is available on all the trim levels of the vettes, but I dont care about any of them except the Z0.

The corner speeds were too low and I had to push all three drivers all day. When their brakes when i let them pick their braking points, then told them when to release and switch to maintenance throttle. Braking was the scary part for the ZR1, lol.

I took the ZR1 guy out for a ride to show him there was more grip in the corners on slip angle. I may have gone a bit too far and scared him, lol. This track rewards suicidal double apex trail braking (approaching drift mode, backing-In to 3 corners) and i wanted him to see that the limit was way further than he was aware. I hope I get to go out with all three again in the future.

Trey, you know of any other driving schools one could go to for some good pseudo-advanced training? I know there is one at Mid Ohio, but it would cost $625 and I'm really not looking to spend that much. A course taught on a track would be ideal, but not 100% necessary.

I think you can learn a lot and clean up bad habits from getting an experienced driver in the car. Johnwag can sit in the car and yell at me all he wants. It's not like any of us seasoned track veterans are leaving gobs of time in any one place. Its more likely that bad habits and comfort zones are our problem. I know that driving those vettes and making my students work on fundamentals will make me a better driver. One day with a $$$ coach will help you clean up a few things, but its not like anything is a real mystery. Work on fundementals, push your comfort zone, get data, and get video on yourself driving the car. I think $1k on data will do more for you than $1000 of coaching.

I'm thinking more of how I can help myself be a better "backroads" driver if that makes sense. I'd also like to explore the limits of my car, work out some of the bad habits I know I have and get some driving confidence back (went for a spin I didn't mean to go for about a month ago).

I'm guessing the answer is autocross.

I skipped over the "mental focus" joke. I was really struggling with going faster at MSR-H a couple months ago. I'm still not sure how I'm going to fix that. I think that driving and riding in those Vettes outside of my comfort zone helped me out a lot. I drove faster while more relaxed, and braking deeper and getting on the throttle earlier than ever before last weekend in my car. This single experience helped shift my thinking a bit and realize that in some cases I'm not on the limit in my car...so I went out on the track and appreciated ECR more than ever before. I love those similar double-apex corners now, it's not as boring.

I don't really know how fast my car can go or how close I am to the limit. If I had aero I could compare to more people on here like Emilio, Andrew, Genesplicer, and others...so I'll keep my title as "best dual-duty Miata without aero, on Tuesdays, in high humidity conditions."

Aren't you the same guy that once said he would never let an instructor drive his car? That you couldn't possibly learn something from some other a$$hat driving your car? I guess it was good for you the owner of the ZR1 didn't feel that same way.

Funny, the same thought crossed my mind riding shotgun at an autocross in a regular C6.

I said I don't let other people drive my car because it's been money shifted, by an instructor. Now, if a guy who owns an S2K or a 6-speed Miata wants to drive, maybe.

I've always believed I could learn something from riding shotgun with someone in my car, but its highly unlikely that will happen unless it fits the conditions listed above. Ask anyone who runs TXMC, I'm very humble and clearly a midpack driver.

It might be the grand sport. Thats the one that has all the performance and body parts of the z06 minus the motor.

Anyways, I drove both a modified c6z and a gtr ('10) and hands down the gtr is the faster, easier to drive car. Once you figure out how to drive out of corners with it (1 session if you're exp.) And your brain relearns the laws of physics the gtr likes to bend, its almost boring easy to go stupid fast. The c6z on the other hand feels good right up until the edge of adhesion where it can get spooky. Alot like a stock ap1 s2k.

Maybe you (hustler) should drive my car to see how a 7k miata can be so fast on taiwan coilovers! Tws is 1mo. away.
