Default Montreal info request

Ok. So Saturday early morning my cousins and I will be in Montreal for the Formula 1 race. My main question is about parking and taking the bus/train. I'm sure we have some folks that are from Montreal so maybe someone can help out.

We're staying at the Econolodge in Laval
1981 Boulevard Cure Labelle, Laval, QC, CA, H7T 1L4

I see on google maps that there's a bus station right near the hotel. Where does this bus take me? Which stop would I get off at for the track and how long you think it takes?

Also, I see that there's a Metro (subway) at Montmorency which is down the street a little. Would it be better to drive to this and park there, then take the metro to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve? Which metro do I get on for that and which stop do i get off at?

Last question- Are US dollars accepted for metro/buses or do we need to get CAD? What about at the track?

Just got back from there. Pretty city. If you can do it, make an overnight trip to Quebec city, which is even prettier. 3 hours drive away. And resist going >115 kph, that road is littered with cops.

Good time of year to go, the babes are wearing short skirts.

If you like jazz, Montreal is a great city for it. Check out what's playing at grunvert cafe in the latin quarter. http://www.grunvertcafe.com/ I went to a few of the famous jazz pubs but I enjoyed grunvert the most. Cheaper and smaller too. If the band Kultchaz is playing, you're in for a treat.

No on USD -you'll be laughed at. Use your ATM and buy the 1 or 3-day subway pass (which includes buses). The 3 day pass is only 2x the price of the 1 day pass. You can buy them at any subway station.

We didn't rent a car for the time we were in the city. We rented a car for our trip to Quebec. Getting around the city and parking isn't too bad (e.g. finding metered spaces), nor is parking at the tourist spots, but unless you have kids in tow in a minivan I'd look for cheap long term parking near some subway station and leave the car there, and get around by subway. Just remember the subways and buses don't run from 1 AM to 5:30 AM.

Call your hotel and ask them if they have parking and how much it costs.

If the subway station is say 2 blocks away, you are much better off walking there and taking the subway, than getting on a bus. Most places in the city are walking distance from subway stations. Spots for which you need to get on a bus, will be described as such in the usual guidebooks which tell you what bus # to take and where to get off.

Your best bet is going by subway, from Montmorency to Berri-UQAM, then you take the yellow line and take off at Parc Jean-Drapeau. You should be good from there. Also if you have the chance to visit a little, I suggest you go downtown, usually F1 weekend action takes place on Crescent/Ste-Catherine and it's worth going. As for the money, even though a lot of places will accept US$, you should definitely get CAD, you will save time.
If you have any other question feel free to ask! Have a blast! btw MTL= lotsa chicks lol

How long of a ride is it from Montmorency to Jean-Drapeau with the switching over trains? We're only going to be there 2 days (sat morning arrival and sun night departure) so should we get the 3 day pass?

Google actually suggests taking the bus from a stop thats near the hotel and taking that to Station Côte-Vertu which goes to the Berri-UQAM station. Will the pass work for that too or would we need to pay separate fairs for the bus and then the subway. Says the Bus is run by Laval, but the subway is run by Montreal.

Thanks everyone.

Way too easy to get laid in Montreal. I suggest RadioLounge or Baloo's.

That's right you now have 2 options. I suggest you directly get to the subway so you save on the bus. I would say you can get on the site in more or less than an hour.

btw baloo's doesnt exist anymore but radiolounge/st-sulpice/lite/737 are good places to hang out

In my first post I pointed out that passes include the buses.
It was like $7 IIRC for a 1 day pass, and $14 for a 3day. No brainer.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure cause I wasn't sure how the buses work up there. To me it looks like Laval is a separate town and I wasn't sure if their buses were different from the ones in Montreal itself. So looks like my best bet would be to go into Montreal. Get the bus/metro passes, then take the bus to the subway and then transfer subways to from the orange line to the yellow line.

Any other helpful hints/suggestions for the track itself? Best place to watch? We have general admission tickets so no seats for us.

Nobody mentioned the strip clubs in Montreal?!

Best place to drink strong beer and enjoy beautiful naked women on the planet.

If you are into that sort of thing....

Montreal was fantastic. We has an awesome time. The track is just amazing. We had general admission seats which were crap but we still got to see the hairpin turn. If anyone is planning on going next year, i would HIGHLY recommend spending the extra money and getting a seat in the grandstand.

The city was awesome too. We ended up going to Cresent street and joined the street party there. Radiolounge was PACKED and so were all the other places there. We ended up staying at the Irish pub for a while and then going to the strip club. Kamasutra was the name I think. It was ok, but I've been to much better ones. Girls had no ****, but the asses was VERY nice.

Overall it was just a great trip and I'm glad I went. Not sure if we're gonna do it again next year or not. I'll post up pics later on tonight when I get a chance. I was using a point and shoot and my new Canon T1i SLR.
